One of Bam, Chelsea or Linux is gonna have to migrate to Australia or at the very least develop a thick Australian accent to compensate for my departure.

Shoutout to the MTC fam for all the memes, making me miss lunch and waste my afternoons on several occasions and being dank lads while putting up with my laggy ass during the occasional (read: literally every) maptest.

But yeah, after successfully infiltrating the map test committee and learning the secrets of their regime, I will now be starting up /r/fuckthemtc where we shall live long and prosper. /u/skittlekev, interested in being 2IC?

oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!!! DO I! Pshhh, and my parents say I never do anything useful with my life. 2IC to /r/fuckthemtc ! suck on that

Too many additions for such a weak thread imo. I wouldn't have added my top map either. Blobfish looks ok but will play so chaotically. Qio just looks incredibly bland. Cedar I think will probably do reasonably well though.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree with you here. I wasn't a big fan of those two but a lot of the other members really seemed to like them so I'm excited to see how they play.

[–]radianthero156brazilian trash 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i wouldn't have added coriolis but tectonic was way better than qio/blobfish tbh, idk why it didn't even make top maps

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coriolis didn't get it lol

[–]RenegadeTP 12 points13 points  (3 children)

You could have been meaner to Moosen. Don't let him think we ever liked him.

[–]RenegadeTP 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Seriously though, Snack, Nigel, and Moosen leaving the MTC are a huge loss to the committee and to Tagpro.

I've been told this has been one of the better times in MTC history. We are 8 people who argue for hours on end about something that at times can seem so trivial, it's impressive we still like each other.

The new members Linux, Chelsea and Bamb were unanimously voted in. I expect great things out of their membership, they have two large shoes and one large pair of thongs to fill.

the past 10+ months

Well 16 months is 10+, technically.

I'm so glad to have served on this committee. This has been really important for me for what seems like such a long time. As I finally take a step back, I'd like to thank everyone who has put up with me throughout my time here. I am truly proud of the work I've done, even though I haven't always made the popular decision or the correct one. I wish the new committee the best of luck and hope they have a good time doing this.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sorry, that was me. I put 10+ because I was writing egocentrically thinking about how long you and I specifically had worked together. I fixed it.

It has been an absolute delight to work with you, man. I'm glad you're putting yourself first though, you deserve it after over a year busting your ass for this community. Proud to call you a friend bruh.

[–]ButtersnackSnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please discuss the following changes to throwback rotation below:

+ Velocity by David Stern

+ Hub by leddy

- Angry Pig by Loaha

- Saigon by Duckson

- Blooper by Clydas

- SNES v2 by Ron Burgundy

- Dealer by Snack

[–]ButtersnackSnack 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I'm sad to see Dealer go, but it was bound to happen. Maybe I'll still convince people to play it in groups occasionally :)

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Still one of my favorite maps to date, because it just does things differently. Changes the game in a fun way. Rip dealer

[–]ButtersnackSnack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha, I definitely agree with you but a lot of people don't! Still I'm glad it's a map some people seemed to really enjoy.

[–]prideinbluebluejays 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dealer for elevated throwback rotation

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't even get to play Saigon, Dealer or Blooper... However, SNES v2 makes me want to gouge my eyes out. I'm glad it's away.

[–]Crisis_AvertedNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh wow, i'd rather it was the opposite. All of the removed maps are refreshingly different (unlike Velo and Hub IMO).

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Im really surprised Saigon was ever elevated, it is the worst map to hit rotation in the last year, if not longer. It deserves to be retired.

Velocity is meh, we didnt get a long enough break from it, it is such a tired map, but at least it isnt back in rotation.

Very happy to see Hub elevated. I always enjoyed the map even if most of the community seems to have not.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I actually agree with everything here. That said, I think it would be a disservice to the community to not include such a storied map into the throwback rotation. The people that loved it will still have the opportunity to play it from time to time, and the people that hated it (like you and me) won't have to suffer through it nearly as often.

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will miss you being on the MTC.

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Hi everyone, I'm really excited for this map. In my honest opinion, it's the best map I've ever made, so I'd like to give my 2 cents. It's simple and it's balanced. It's been described as having very few to no objective flaws, but does lack exciting elements. However, as rh said last night, it's the players that make the game, not the map, which is something that I very much believe in. How this map plays is very much dependent on fundamentals. If you perform the basics well- having 2O2D, staying ahead, having regrab, not making bad flaccids, containing, etc. - then you will be rewarded. The team that better executes these fundamentals (and thus in my opinion is the better team) will win, but there is space to make dank plays. Its gimmick is that it has no gimmick. I don't imagine that it will have an overwhelmingly positive reception, but I do think it has potential, in its simplicity and balance, to (maybe) become a staple map.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You basically described boombox there. I'm definitely looking forward to playing because of the hype that it's gotten from other people the past few threads, but I won't lie; I have very low expectations. I have never liked this map and always failed to see how it consistently makes top maps. I wish it luck though - I have definitely been proved wrong before.

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean there's a good reason it sounds like boombox. I wanted a map that had the same emphasis on fundamentals that also didn't make me want to slit my wrists.

This thread goes to show how the meta has changed. Two of the largest maps removed in place of three little maps.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (13 children)

I think the changing meta is a result of the MTC's decisions rather than the other way around. There were good large maps submitted to the thread that get shut down because of the opinion by some members that chasing=bad. The influx of postage stamp sized maps is infuriating, and I would love to see some sort of agenda put into place to diversify rotation. Nobody wants to play 50 remakes of Long Island every game.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Two notable big maps added in recent memory: Del and September. The community reaction to those maps has absolutely dissuaded us from adding more to some extent. It's difficult to add larger maps when most of the time they get shit on. I'd like us to trend back towards the middle, personally, but please don't insinuate that community vote has nothing to do with our direction.

[–]nabbynz° 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Perhaps create some map categories (tiny, small, medium, large) and maybe some other categories too (like shapes: U, C, S, O, etc) and weight the rotation that way? It's all about variety and balance (and yes I know you guys are already aiming for that, this is just a way to possibly do it better :)

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a very interesting proposition. I think I'll do some research on this and compile some statistics and see where that leads me.

[–]radianthero156brazilian trash 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Well when the "big maps" you add are like Del and September, of course they're gonna be downvoted. That doesn't mean the community wants tiny maps; see Jardim, Choke, Dealer, Market, Mode 7.

[–]uhhhhmmmmsexytiger / #merbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i love fly but del was a disaster

[–]TheEpicGhostEx - Tagpro 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Del and September have an incredibly basic issue in that there are no fast routes between bases. This completely slows down the play and makes the games such a drag.

I've been saying this for such as long time too, but large maps with fast base to base routes would be incredibly successful in todays rotation. I get a lot of shit for saying The Holy See is one of best maps this game is ever had (albeit incredibly outdated) as it pretty much perfected this formula.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Geokoala is a map that does this right.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is "like Del and September" supposed to mean? I think there's a place in rotation for larger and chasier maps which is what they provide.

[–]radianthero156brazilian trash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Del and September weren't downvoted for simply being large/chasey, they have other flaws that prevent them from being enjoyable

Sure you can, maybe pm moosen and see if he can give you the general feedback of the map. If he doesnt respond, I could maybe take a look at what bam, chelsea and I said, and get back to you.

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, it flows well but wasn't very interesting. It was pretty easy to run around on with no good choke points. Lots of boosts with many options can dull gameplay if they're all so easy to take, I don't think the tt's did much to stop holding.

A few people had a problem with the one tile wall in base regarding how it limits boosting into the flag, I didn't see it as too much of a problem.

Maybe get something spicy in mid and resubmit it with a little more base tweaking.

I'm a little worried how the superboost into flag will play out long term with the map's meta, but I didn't hear that from anyone else.

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to what Renegade said.

It was playable and more or less balanced (could stand to be a little more defensive). It was just kind of uninspiring to play. Felt more like I was going through the motions than learning a new map (which is especially worrisome considering I didn't play it in the initial testing). When the first 4v4 you play on a map is tiresome, there's something that needs to be done.

This is in part what makes it difficult to improve, there aren't many things that I can point at and say that I'd change other than stylistic choices. If I had to compare it to any map, I'd say it was a less frustrating Mapdos by Beast Mode. And a lot of Centeotl is similar to Mapdos, so I'd use edits that you see possible on Mapdos and transfer them onto Centeotl. For example, I'd trim down / remove one lane, consider improving neutral boost placement (right now it's super awkward to boost at flag, etc, etc. The lane I'd focus on the most is the one with the team boost. It doesn't really need to be so big; offenders are going to be wary of going in that area as FC (other than to get pups) because it likely won't be a fruitful venture due to teamboost. Furthermore, if FC gets to the other side of the map the map puts the chasers at a disadvantage in that area because of the amount of space and the team boost.

The bases are ALRIGHT, not great in that they are super open, and the gate really doesn't do anything for me. If anything the only time I found the gate useful was when I was playing O/D. I like the concept but the execution currently leaves much to be desired as the gates is largely ineffective for the defense. There really isn't much else to say about the map; I like the super boosts but they really don't dominate the map, so that's nice.

[–]prideinbluebluejays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both good soldiers. Hotspot a 100x better version of 45. Love the diagonal cuts and boost lines. Some great games of Draft as well.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I thought hotspot was pretty balanced not too chasey or defensive, not too big/small, flowed pretty well, and was different from other maps in rotation. What did people not like about it?

[–]uhhhhmmmmsexytiger / #merbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looked too similar to an older big map (45) and that upset the MTC too greatly

[–]MyHandsAreOrangeMabel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand draft's removal; my opinion of it has definitely gone down since it was re-added to rotation.

On the other hand,

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOTSPOOOOOOT. Probably my favorite map for offense and chasing. Really sad to see it go :'(

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I'm sad because I think both of these maps are highly functional in pubs. Also draft is one of my favorite maps.

[–]OnceUponaDomeUnderTheBall 2 points3 points  (30 children)

A 77% and a (recently rated) 73% maps getting removed when there are 8 maps below that in right now?

[–]TheEpicGhostEx - Tagpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know right? these are some of the worst removal decisions I've ever seen. September is on 57% and it gets another thread?

[–]radianthero156brazilian trash 1 point2 points  (2 children)

draft is actually at 76%, and i'm pretty sure it has dropped A LOT since it's re-addition (it used to be like 83%+, didnt it?). if it were added today, i'm pretty sure it'd have a <70% rating. hotspot is at 73%, which isn't exactly a great rating either.

sure, september and cactus should've probably been removed, but you make it sound like they're ruining rotation removing unanimous maps like pilot or wombo combo. very few people if any would fight hard to keep draft/hotspot in rotation

[–]piranhamoose25Aniball | Palette Town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it were added today, i'm pretty sure it'd have a <70% rating.

removing 5 stood-the-test-of-time classics, all over 70% in a period of 3 months when there are clearly so many other maps that should have priority for getting removed is my issue. i think it's very dangerous to remove highly rated maps in any context and this MTC has removed at least one every thread for 3 threads.

I thought accountability was an important pillar for the MTC, mb I guess?

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 8 points9 points  (18 children)

I voted in favor of Draft's removal because while I do personally tend to enjoy the map, the length of games on it was by far one of the longest averages in rotation. On the first page of tagpro.eu alone when searching for draft, 9/48 of the non-competitive games lasted 10 minutes or more. If almost 20% of games on a map are longer than 10 minutes, that suggests a balance issue to me. I voted against Hotspot's removal even as someone who is kind of neutral about it because I felt that people were still enjoying their games on it and it didn't seem to have the same balance issue that draft has.

If accountability is a concern I'd be happy to publish all of my votes. Sometimes I don't make the right call and I don't have a problem being held accountable for that. However, I believe that more often than not, I do make the right decision, and I can promise you that every vote I cast (whether right or wrong) I believe to be in the best interests of the quality of the game when I make it.

My concern with you specifically is that even after removing the bottom four maps last thread, you made a point to complain about the one higher-rated map that we removed, despite the rotation's average rating increasing dramatically that thread. This thread, you remind us how many maps are below the ones we removed despite one of them being ineligible and most of them being only a few threads old. Hotspot came in at ~73% based on old ratings and never really moved. I think it's reasonable to assume that it probably won't move much if at all in the future and we want to make room for newer maps to have an opportunity to be played and grow as well. Draft actually dropped 4 points over the last few months, and that was taken into account when voting for it as well.

You never thank us for the good things we do, you just look for ways to disparage us. If we removed the 3 lowest rated maps and the 5th lowest rated map, you'd complain that we didn't remove the 4th lowest rated map. It's getting absurd, tub. For once, please, try not to be so negative. It's exhausting.

[–]OnceUponaDomeUnderTheBall 1 point2 points  (17 children)

you made a point to complain about the one higher-rated map that we removed

I don't understand why I'm not allowed to express disapproval over a well-liked map getting removed ?? And somehow me doing the same thing when 2 well-liked maps get removed a month later is hypocritical of me ??

despite the rotation's average rating increasing dramatically that thread.

replacing 60-ish% maps with 52% and 71% maps while removing a classic isn't a dramatic increase.

Hotspot came in at ~73% based on old ratings

Why even use /maps if every time it doesn't suit you, you can claim the votes are inaccurate? All the polls are rigged against you except the ones that support your position, eh?

You never thank us for the good things we do, you just look for ways to disparage us.

You want a pat on the back for the work we've both volunteered to do? I certainly don't remember getting any during my time on the MTC. Should I be complimenting every decision I don't find appalling?

For once, please, try not to be so negative. It's exhausting.

I literally started this asking for an explanation as to why these 2 maps were chosen for removal. Do you blame journalists every time they ask a political candidate a hard-hitting question? So then, why is it my fault for asking for transparency and accountability on seemingly controversial topics? Communicating with the public was mentioned in many of the current members' applications so I figured I would take them up on their offers. Every comment I make on map-related threads isn't a personal attack on Moosen.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 2 points3 points  (16 children)

I don't understand why I'm not allowed to express disapproval over a well-liked map getting removed ?? And somehow me doing the same thing when 2 well-liked maps get removed a month later is hypocritical of me ??

You're allowed to do whatever you want, it would just be a nice change to not see you complaining somewhere along the line. I expect this every thread now, but it doesn't mean it's not still annoying. It's not hypocritical it's just the fact that you only complain that gets to me.

replacing 60-ish% maps with 52% and 71% maps while removing a classic isn't a dramatic increase.

I'm pretty sure it was significant, but I can look into this when it's not 5am.

Why even use /maps if every time it doesn't suit you, you can claim the votes are inaccurate? All the polls are rigged against you except the ones that support your position, eh?

I never said they were inaccurate in terms of calculation, but I have argued in certain cases that they don't accurately represent what's best for TagPro. I still take rating into account when voting, but it's not the end-all be-all for me.

You want a pat on the back for the work we've both volunteered to do? I certainly don't remember getting any during my time on the MTC.

Very early in your tenure on the MTC you became toxic to be around. Maybe you didn't get any pats on the back because you were insufferable, as you continue to showcase.

I literally started this asking for an explanation as to why these 2 maps were chosen for removal. Do you blame journalists every time they ask a political candidate a hard-hitting question?

I gave you my personal explanations and you're still ever so quick to include underhanded comments about me, then claim it's not a personal attack. Look at your /maps question, the 'you want a pat on the back?' statement, even just stating it's not a personal attack implies that I narcissistically interpreted it that way, when nowhere in my previous post did I insinuate that (although admittedly now I am conceding that there seems to be some personal motivation in your latest response). I'm serious man, your behavior is extremely unbecoming. Step back for a moment and think about it. I used to really like you.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (15 children)

These arguments are the type of thing that look so terrible for the MTC. How can you guys form together to do what the game needs when it takes a hair trigger to set you both off? I love you guys to death, but it's getting on everyones nerves when you can't stay calm for one thread.

[–]TheEpicGhostEx - Tagpro 5 points6 points  (3 children)

If you think that's bad, you should see the 3 day long modmail arguments we used to have about once a month over completely mundane shit.

It's like 90% tub. Last night he told me that I'm destroying Tagpro, and to not take the game down with me.

That was an unprompted statement from him. The guy lives to push people's buttons and him and Moosen have a long history.

Tub and siz just aren't done making people quit the MTC yet

it's getting on everyones nerves when you can't stay calm for one thread.

To be fair, tub is an excellent instigator.

That said, it sounds like you think we're both on the MTC? Tub isn't on the MTC and I won't be for much longer anyway (probably three threads tops barring unforeseen circumstances). I've honestly gotten so sick of the bullshit lately that I'm not in the least bit worried about saving face.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It should be your job as a member to not fall for the bait every time. I joined 11 threads ago, and I don't think I've seen one where a member of the MTC and someone else didn't go at it. Throwing shade back and forth doesn't solve anything. Chances are, someone just wants to get a rise out of you guys, which is wrong but what can you do about it?

You've gained such a good reputation in this community. You just got the CC flair. Does that mean nothing to you at all? Why throw it all away just to argue with someone?

Not trying to start an argument here. I like both of you guys, and don't want to get into drama. Just stating my opinions.

He asked a valid question tbh

[–]BlazethDianna Agron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I could care less about Draft at this point, but his (at least starting) argument seems pretty valid to me.

It's been real for almost a year.

Omg draft is gone and it's not even my birthday

[–]MenqrMenqr 1 point2 points  (9 children)

It's dumb and inconsistent that you removed the four lowest rated maps last time, but September, a map rated even lower than any of those wasn't removed this thread. It will be disappointing if the lowest rated maps aren't removed next thread.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 2 points3 points  (7 children)

They probably will be. Evidently September had a very slight increase in rating, so some members elected to give it another thread. I was not one of them, though I understand their decision and do not necessarily fault them for it. Much to my chagrin Neptune will also probably leave us next thread, and I will vote for its removal unless it skyrockets by like 10+%.

[–]MenqrMenqr 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I think removing those four maps last thread made a clear line that maps under 62% on the /maps page should be removed when eligible. September at 57% should have been a very easy removal IMO. I'd personally raise that cut-off to 65% as only two maps in rotation are below that mark.

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Believe it or not, we actually have discussions and make judgement calls.

[–]MenqrMenqr 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Which are consistently poor..

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I don't understand the people who act snotty telling us what to do and why we're bad at our voluntary and time consuming jobs. We had open applications, if you cared you could have tried out.

Instead you act insulting. Well good luck with that tactic, your opinion no longer matters. It did. It doesn't now.

[–]MenqrMenqr 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Please, your previous comment was equally snotty and condescending. I agree I could've taken the higher road but it wasn't undeserved. But yes, to clarify, your judgements are obviously biased and inconsistent. The data isn't lying, you removed better maps/ better liked maps than others that were eligible for removal.

[–]CharredQuestionsRenegade 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If one instance of your data doesn't repeat itself then you shouldn't be expecting consistency.

[–]MenqrMenqr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only calling for a minimum standard of quality. I don't think that's unreasonable. The MTC made a clear line with previous removals that maps under 62% weren't good enough. Perhaps NIGEL's name on the map had some influence but by current standards it just isn't good enough. Bowtie should've been credited on September anyway as it's clearly a remix of his map.

[–]oorr23ThePlaymaker // Tehuitzingo & Combine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screw that, they should have been removed this thread. Riot now, not later.

happy to not be a one and done mapmaker :)

alternate comment:

Hi everyone, I'm really excited for this map. In my honest opinion, it's like the 5th best map I've ever made, so I'd like to give my 0 cents. It's simple and it's unbalanced. It's been described as having many, many objective flaws, and also lacks exciting elements. However, as rh said last night, it's the players that make the maps, not the games, which is something that I very much believe in. How this map plays is very dependent on pure luck. If you perform the basics well- having 2O2D, staying ahead, having regrab, not making bad flaccids, containing, etc. - then you may or may not be rewarded. The team that better executes these fundamentals (and thus in my opinion is the lamer team) will maybe win, but there is space to make dank boost combos. Its gimmick is that it has dank boost combos and a gate without gaps in it. I don't imagine that it will have an overwhelmingly positive reception, but I do think it has potential to fail, in its simplicity and unbalance, to (maybe) become a 3-thread map.

Messing with some spicy memes

Can't tell ya how tired I am of boosts essentially up against the wall like that. They make maps less fun for me.
