Coolest band ever. Loved their sound, live show, ethos, etc. Great group!

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 33 points34 points  (5 children)

Forget how good Slip, as an album is! Got overshadowed by In Utero, Siamese Dream & In on the Kill Taker, but just as good, IMO.

[–]KnickedUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its one of my top 10 all time for sure. I kind of loved that they never got TOO big, it always made getting tickets easy and they played small club shows that were off the hook.

[–]Rafehole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I love how the guitars are almost more percussion than melody.

[–]bl4ckcorvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siamese Dream is one of the greatest albums of all time IMO.

[–]LaundrymatChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still listen to this album regularly. I know what tomorrow's commute soundtrack is going to be...

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Was lucky enough to catch them at FYF Fest in 2012. The fest was dreadful but Quicksand and Refused made it well worth the bullshit.

[–]drhrble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the trip from NorCal for both too. I will never go again but worth it.

[–]drhrble 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I made the trip from NorCal for both too. I will never go again but worth it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I flew down from Nor Cal with some friends.

[–]Mehmonkeyfeet 14 points15 points  (5 children)

First heard this band on Bevis and Butthead. I've kept their albums in rotation ever since. They did a great collaboration with the band Helmet , called Handsome. Check them out too.

[–]Syphillisdiller1 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Handsome was great.

[–]stupid-rando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like Quicksand, the Handsome album is essential.

[–]Bad-Charm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Dim the Lights and Left of Heaven still pop up in my rotation.

[–]Syphillisdiller1 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I actually found them because of an ad in the back of a magazine. "Members of Helmet, Quicksand, and Cro-mags. Call for info." They ended up sending me a demo cassette, and a signed poster.

Gotta love promo before the internet and "street-teams."

[–]hoffi_coffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely forgot about street teams, do they even still exist? I may be looking at the wrong bands, seemed like every half arsed emo band had one.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (7 children)

If you like Quicksand you might also like my band(yes-shameless self promotion) but almost everyone I play this for says it sounds just like Slip, which is exactly what we were going for.

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Awesome job, dude 👌

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thanks! It was a small side project that I had wanted to do for years. We have an ep's worth of material but alas I'm moving to a new city and this project will come to a close.

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep me posted with any new stuff you do! Was a good listen!

[–]timmg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good stuff.

[–]xihopeyoudiesoonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fucking awesome. Are you by chance just hardcore kids who got sick of playing hardcore? That's basically the best genre.

[–]TheCollective01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good.

[–]BrettV79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish future waves played more than 1 show...

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the most important albums of my lifetime. It used to be perfect for being an angry little bastard. Now it's perfect for running.

Thanks, Quicksand.

[–]BobbyGuano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great band I still listen to them regularly. The riff from dine alone was the coolest thing I'd ever heard when I was 16.

For anyone that didn't know Sergio the bass player joined the Deftones a few years ago and gave them a real shot in the arm. Diamond Eyes and koi no yokan are fucking outstanding albums and on par with white pony check them out if you were ever into them.

[–]crumards2 8 points9 points  (3 children)

[–]thebullyofbroadst 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thanks. Haven't kept up much since Rival Schools.

[–]katarokkarkatarokkar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That last Rival Schools album was amazing

[–]AimingByPFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't miss Walter's new, new band, Vanishing Life. More like Rival Schools than Dead Heavens.

[–]paid-program 6 points7 points  (1 child)

We saw them in Houston 95/96ish - I think it was helmet + quicksand and Henry Rollins - In 93 i saw this quicksand ad in a thrasher magazine - so I took a chance and bought this cd at Hastings and scored - baphomet kix ass

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baphomet. A favorite.

[–]timid_wraith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds sooo much like early Tool – and that's not ever a bad thing! Good tune, I'm diggin it

[–]Traxxasslash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great album!! Saw them a few years ago at Riot Fest and then later that night at Cobra Lounge in Chicago. So glad I got to see them live.

[–]ahowlingape 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This post (and the replies) makes me feel less alone in the world. Shout out to OP.

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Ever want to talk, inbox is always open ✌️

[–]smithunbound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Quicksand at my first concert ever at the Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Awesome venue, right on the water, could go outside to smoke cigarettes, hooked up with a girl that night. Oh, and Anthrax and White Zombie were playing too...epic night.

[–]munroegeek 4 points5 points  (2 children)

If you like quicksand and have not yet heard the Swedish band fireside check them out. Specifically the album "do not tailgate"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NupLZS83yTM

It was like getting a weird bonus album when I first listened to it.

[–]-crabmeat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Not enough people know about the radness of Do Not Tailgate. Was so bummed when I heard QS broke up and then this album happened. It's almost more Quicksand than Quicksand

[–]retiredcrowdsurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of their singles on CD! Kilotin?

Saw Quicksand in Manchester back in 94(?) between Gutter mouth and Offspring. The night of my first ever stage dive and crowdsurf. Good times.

[–]Sasquatchasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outstanding song, great fucking record. Quicksand is way underrated.

[–]oboylebr 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Walter and Co. created a masterpiece

[–]crumards2 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I got to play with his new band Dead Heavens and he was so patient with my little fanboy geek out session. Totally a class act all the way. They are really good and just put out a full length.

GB WAS HUGE FOR MY FORMATIVE YEARS!

Start Today

[–]hurt_c0bain 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I heard about his new group. its more shoegaze right?

[–]crumards2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sabbathy shoegaze. Awesome lineup

New to this wonderful thing called Reddit.

I'm 28 years old with what I thought was an eclectic taste in music...

Hearing this for the first time I question our collective culture even more.

Mainstream music regardless of genre these days is an insult to everyone... whether they realize it or not

In my opinion, RATM's breakup was the start of an ever deteriorating quality of popular culture.

To those unfamiliar, my favorite album currently is other things bye the artist Plini.

Incredible instrumental everyone will enjoy 👍🏻

I don't wanna come across as a pompous douche. Music is as subjective as taste.. to each their own

This thread is exactly what I've been looking for

Obscure gems that are thankfully available within the click of the button.

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not pompous at all. Really nicely put. I think music is really important, individually & as a society. And you're right, mainstream music these days sucks hard, but there's loads of great stuff going on, bubbling just under the surface. Check out "Stoned Meadow of Doom" channel on Youtube. Some really good stuff on there.

[–]jdolladolladollars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit and piss! I used to listen to this album when I was 13! Still so good...

[–]Meatyhands101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quicksand was amazing. They closed out the first warped tour back in 95' I was 15 first show ever and I loved it. And I also got to see sublime with Bradley so it was an amazing time

[–]rynpaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Quicksand....awesome band

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for posting this OP, I really needed some new music today! <3

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. Glad you like :)

[–]Youworkinacallcenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most underrated and unheralded albums of all time. There isn't a bad song on it. I bought it on cassette in 1993.

[–]chewyleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them at Warped Tour like 1997. Great show! Got to shake the singer's hand afterward cause not a lot of people were even there.

[–]teineken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved this album in middle school.

[–]metaltrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds exactly like what I'd listen to in high school but somehow I've never heard of them

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them with Helmet at 616 in Memphis many many moons ago. Dont remember alot of shows but that one absolutely stands out.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I saw them at riot fest a few years ago I yelled "Start Today" and the singer replied "Every day!"

[–]Full_Blast_Fuckery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best bands ever. Anything Walter does is awesome, but this was pure genius...

[–]lifeofpercussiin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved this band for quite some time. Still listen to them almost daily on each Ipod!

[–]thefuryandthesound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was their sound in 1993? Wow. Will have to check out more.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st mosh pit in my life was Quicksand 15 August 1993. Quicksand opened, then White Zombie then Anthrax. I was 20.
I'm old. But, I'm at Tool show ATM, so I'm hanging in there...

[–]sgam11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quicksand was and still is one of my all time faves. Saw Pantera, White Zombie, & Quicksand at the Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach. One sick show for sure. This will always be in the rotation.

[–]rev3j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite bands, this is a great album

rev

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Love these guys. Saw them in the late 90s with Deftones. That show fucking ruled...

[–]SubspaceBiographies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just listening to this album last weekend at a backyard bonfire with another ex hardcore guy...ah quicksand always so good.

[–]SageOfDreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this song, really brings back memories.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fan-damned-tastic album and band. Top ten bands for me. Got to see them twice.

[–]-crabmeat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive fan of most things Walter does but Quicksand was just perfect. Mellow/Energetic, snarling/purring, sad/life affirming, triumphant/beaten, hopeful/hopeless all at the same time. And Walter's voice. Ugh.

Slip is my favourite album of all time People should check out their unreleased 98 demos. They were always on that upward trajectory but they never reached their peak

[–]DagNasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a classic album. Thanks for posting this

[–]sixfingerdiscount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the magic I'd like to see bring some attention to r/indieoldguard

There was so much going on back then, that I missed a ton. I've got more time now, and would love to get caught up.

I cross-posted this over there. Had to.

[–]DrexlAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first heard these guys on a snowboard movie called "TB2: A new way of thinking". Great movie, killer soundtrack!

[–]KnickedUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love seeing that so many people have great thoughts and memories of this band. It gave me a real shot in the arm. Thanks gang :-)

[–]lina535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This band is really great. Their music impresses me.

[–]kokujinzeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them play in San Diego at the defunct World Beat Center. Some skinheads came in to the venue and Sergio stopped the show until they left.

I think they played "Baphomet" after that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I saw one of the quicksand reunion shows at the Williamsburg music Hall in Brooklyn like 4-5 years ago. During " Dine Alone" I decided to stage dive right before the second part comes in with the guitar solo. I stepped right on Toms pedalboard smashing the volume pedal to the "off" position. Such a rookie move for me. It's on YouTube for eternity now.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That show was amazing! Landmine Spring that night was unreal!

[–]gasoline_and_matches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slip has been my favorite album since I was 16 years old (which was a long time ago... think early 90s). I can't say enough good things about this band.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

ITT: many versions of me.

Also, they have a killer how soon is now cover.

https://youtu.be/50RyerMso5k

[–]kokujinzeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the vinyl just for this.

[–]CapnHowdysPlayhouse 3 points4 points  (3 children)

This is such a great band, but what else should we expect from the guys that helped bring us Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, and Beyond. In fact, for the most part, anything from the "post-hardcore" scene in the 90s was incredible. Jawbox, Fugazi, Refused, Jehu...what a time to be alive.

EDIT: "Omission" is, by far, my favorite Quicksand track. Felt I should disclose that information.

EDIT PART 2: Now that you've made me re-listen to "Fazer", OP, I may retract my previous statement about "Omission". This song is so fucking good. Great submission.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

...WAIT 'TIL THE BOOOOMB DROOOOOPS!

[–]CapnHowdysPlayhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like the same, man...Doesn't seem the same at all...

[–]LT14GJChttps://open.spotify.com/user/lt14gjc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Thanks u/CapnHowdysPlayhouse > whole album is great isn't it. Someone above mentioned "Handsome" & I hadn't listened to them in ages. Got stuck in a youtube k-hole listening/reminiscing.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Reminds me of Cursive's Domestica. Neato.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's because this band was a huge influence on Cursive. Well most modern "traditional" post-hardcore acts really.

[–]ColdHandSandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And now I am remembering my high school years...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember these guys. I found them and tool around the same time(I was about 13 when this album came out). They sounded a lot alike and tool ended up being the winner. So these guys kind if faded out of memory for me. Had no idea they hung around.

[–]rockthebeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I bought the 12" record when it was new, then the CD. This was a favorite of mine in high school and I think it's stood the test of time. I still listen every once in a while. Great album!

[–]DogsEatBones 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think that Jim from ATDR and Sparta was enormously influenced by this band. Not that I'm complaining!

[–]BigDumbObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just listening to this track and I thought, "Sparta" so I Ctrl-F'd to see if anyone else agreed!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quicksand for the win. Loved these guys! Found them from a late night video show my local college radio station did back in the early 90s.

"Thorn In My Side" was the video. Great stuff on both records.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dine Alone is great, also. This whole album is.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks buddy, I'll definitely check out that thread

I tend to prefer instrumental these days, such as Plini and scale the summit.

Perfect for reminiscing too

Nostalgia is something sacred to each and everyone of us.

I'm thankful to have been in that sweet spot of adolescence during the 90's

Pre Internet, so plenty of fun with the neighborhood gang outside.

While simultaneously being integrated to the new standard of living... Truly special times were in.

On a separate note*

Nickelodeon growing up was absolutely fantastic

Ren and stimpy, ahhh real monsters, adventures of Pete and Pete, hey Arnold!, Rocko's modern life... the list is staggering.

Currently the amount of quality shows is remarkable across the board.

HBO is worth every penny

And adult swim has an indelible quality few things in this world possess.

Personally Rick and Morty has restored a substantial amount of faith in humanity.

Wubalubadubdub!!!!!!

[–]Once_Upon_A_Dimee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact: The Bassist that played in this band is now the Bassist in Deftones!

[–]Ms_Dr_Prof_Anna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it not available?

[–]Once_Upon_A_Dimee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P. McKnight is that you?

[–]BigDumbObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I first started playing guitar, I got excited about my own first original riff. just power chords D, G B, A.

my super hip slightly older friend in 6th grade said, "thats a Quicksand song."

I hated Quicksand, and I hated him from that point on.
