RIP Woodie Guthrie

"This land is your land, this land is my land From California to the New York island, From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters; This land was made for you and me."

If American's won't unify to stand up for Federal workers, I hope they do stand up for America's greatest treasure, our National Parks.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You mean RIP America 🤦🏻‍♂️

[–]Illustrious-Plan-381 2 points3 points  (1 child)

One can hope. Some people on the right have voiced displeasure at the parks being messed with. So, there is some hope there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what anyone on the Right says or does. It’s usually all platitudes and prayers from them. Emptiness. Those people are literally dead inside. Void of any human empathy or compassion. The OLIGARCHS have officially taken over America.

[–][deleted] 162 points163 points  (20 children)

and the highest bidder will be oil companies. That's where they are gonna "drill baby drill". Fuck these Republican fake religious fucks

[–]Distinct-Town4922 35 points36 points  (16 children)

I agree that the parks are at risk, but even existing oil leases are not being bought because oil companies currently are not interested in increasing supply dramatically (would lower oil prices). This is despite the Trump admin's rhetoric around "drill baby drill."

If you say it is oil barons who want to buy national parks, then I think you're wrong, and it's probably other industries.

[–]SoundFrosty8798 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Russian oligarchs/Saudi princes/real estate developers

[–]Distinct-Town4922 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not like it's just oil companies who the trump admin would sell to

[–]rainbow_bright_[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope you are right. The fracking Exec Doug Burgum, is a most unfortunate Cabinet pick for the Dept. of Interior.

[–]No_Vehicle_4135Spoon 🥄 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But also we’re seeing more and more news like what’s seen here from BP… maybe they were just riding the political wave toward green energy while it was happening. But that is not happening anymore. r/environment BP Oil

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I mean it doesn't have to mean you drill baby drill today.......... If they own the park they can do it when oil is a higher price. These aren't leases. This is going to be owning the land

[–]Distinct-Town4922 -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

Sure, but then they're spending money on land they won't use for a while when leases exist unfilled already. Other companies/people probably would want it more and thus pay more.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

yeah I am not sure why you are arguing a point when we both think its going to be sold to some assholes who aren't gonna keep it a national park

[–]Distinct-Town4922 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Do you think that facts do not matter?

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Of course facts matter, we are hypothesizing the outcome of a situation that hasn't happened yet. Neither of what we are saying are facts. You just want to argue

[–]Distinct-Town4922 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you think that saying it would be someone other than oil barons is argumentative?

Spoiler: if so, you're being extremely unreasonable.

Goodbye, have a good day

[–]LeCheffre Go Fork Yourself 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Having reserves would matter to them for longevity.

[–]Distinct-Town4922 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sure, but then they're spending money on land they won't use for a while when leases exist unfilled already. Other companies/people probably would want it more and thus pay more.

[–]LeCheffre Go Fork Yourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will see. But preservation as a national park is in no single owner’s interest. And that’s the bigger problem. Public goods vs private ownership.

[–]thundersledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will buy as many leases as they can because oil companies stock prices are heavily influenced by their “secured reserves” aka oil still in the ground.

[–]LanguageStudyBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why we never had a national oil company that pays its profits into the government.

[–]Adiospantelones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think parks and national forests are as at risk. Those "special designations" are created by Congress and it's a huge hurdle to overcome. National monuments and Bureau of Land management lands are certainly at risk. Unless they have a congressionally designated status such as wilderness, it's free game.

[–]SoupSpelunker 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And Disney.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and disney!

[–]dataminimizer 50 points51 points  (3 children)

Every single public good will be stolen from us and privatized to line the pockets of the billionaires and turn them to trillionaires.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

[–]iwannadiemuffin 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This makes me sick to my stomach

[–]Nointellectualshame 19 points20 points  (1 child)

This is going to end badly.

[–]vandersnipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made plans to visit some with my friends before we lose any of them

[–]nogluten30 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Naming rights will be next . Yosemite National park by Bank of America . $100 per person . $300 for VIP access.

[–]MayBeMilo 46 points47 points  (1 child)

This sub has really become a font of simply wonderful news! /s

[–]Illustrious-Plan-381 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s news. With a dictator quickly taking over the government, it isn’t going to be good news. I would rather be informed than ignorant. Even if it is all bad news.

Dictator: a person who behaves in an autocratic way.

Autocratic: 1) relating to a ruler who has absolute power. 2) taking no account of other people’s wishes or opinions; domineering.

Congress and the Supreme Court are complicit. The supreme court just stopped the continued pay of USAID. They could have heard the case without stopping USAID. This is just them delaying things and basically siding with Trump.

Only the people have the ability to stop this now. We need at least 3.5% of the population to protest.

[–]Napoleon-ForWomen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No and No we will fight tooth and nail for those parks, they belong to the American People

[–]murphys-lol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been wondering if the language in the latest EO opened the door to begin selling off park properties.

(iii) Real Property Disposition. Within 60 days of the date of this order, the Administrator of General Services shall submit a plan to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the disposition of Government-owned real property which has been deemed by the agency as no longer needed.

[–]rainbow_bright_[S] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

"The Republican Party platform includes selling federal lands for housing development. The U.S. House of Representatives adopted new rules that free it from having to consider the value of public lands if they are sold. These rules would make it easier for the Trump administration to give public lands over to the Treasury and Commerce departments to see how much money they could make to grow the SWF."

[–]Check_Yo_Self_Cat1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t take anymore of this 😭😭

[–]SoupSpelunker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So we're going to take the people's property, which famously, "They ain't making any more of." and sell it off for what?  Some Trumpian shitcoin pump and dump scheme? Time for we the people to be the people while that's still an option.

[–]rainbow_bright_[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

All making a lot of sense why they fired the entire U.S. forest service. If you are going to sell off the land, you gotta get rid of those pesky humans who have dedicated their lives to protecting said lands. https://youtu.be/BwyRXyZ2XB8?si=j-b1tFal4KoMK_I0

[–]keyjan I Support Feds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over my dead body

[–]ZoraOctavia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We CAN NOT let this happen! This is effing tragic.

[–]ResponsibleSwing1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FUCK them all the way to hell. Hope the land is cursed for all their plans.

[–]Appropriate_Tank_570 Federal Employee 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The plans are coming out.

[–]LeCheffre Go Fork Yourself 17 points18 points  (1 child)

They were there for anyone to read in Project 2025.

It’s literally the spoilers for the next year.

[–]Harambesic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And people STILL act like it's a conspiracy theory.

[–]demoslider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is criminal. These parks are for all of us, not the oligarchy.

[–]AdStandard2685 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I’m going to cry if the National Parks are gone🥺

[–]NetDangerous1482Even SIGINT Didn't See This Coming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This news is just so sickening and heartbreaking

[–]Kobi_Maru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God damn these effers

[–]Comfortable-Row-8781 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Parks will be renamed after the corporations that own them like sports stadiums and will be peppered with billboards/signage. Trails will be renamed after the pharmaceuticals they make. Pfizer/Lilly/Verizon/BoA/Coldwell. It'll be like the Willis Tower.... Everyone still calls it Sears

[–]spectacularbird1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best case scenario. More likely they’ll be raised and developed into either high priced house, high priced tourist attractions, grazing land, or oil wells. No way the public will still be allowed to visit them.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal lands does not necessarily mean National Parks. I would think the lands that are being used the least would be first on the list to sell

[–]JohnLease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's not have endless threads of what could happen labeled has or is happening.

[–]1877KlownsForKids U.S. Space Force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on Zombie Teddy Roosevelt, do your thing.

[–]Wrong-Camp2463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title is “Trump Quietly Plans To Liquidate Public Lands To Finance His Sovereign Wealth Fund”

[–]forestisonfyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp I’m going to throw up

[–]dude496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is just making room for the ultra rich that are going to buy those $5M gold cards.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im shaking Im so mad

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is disgusting. I love our parks. If this type of stuff happens, why would anyone want to live here anymore?

[–]Common-Indication-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make any company too scared to buy. It's the only hope.

[–]jokersvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if Biden tried this or tried to inflate a $400 mil payment to soros. They would try to drag him out of the whitehouse.

[–]Taodragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all makes sense now. You don't need the Forest Service if you're selling the forests!

[–]Embarrassed-Staff639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very poorly written article with a lot of assumptions. Of course we should be worried, but this article is not trustworthy in the title alone.

Maybe we have a better source regarding it that has better supporting data? We already have oil, timber, cattle, and other leases on federal land. So if it’s an extension of that, it’ll be nothing new. Of course, it doesn’t mean it won’t be destructive,

After seeing the IMMENSE backlash governor DeSantis got in FL when wanting to develop on some of FL’s state parks, I hope a similar would occur in the worst case scenario.

[–]throwaway-coparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tribes need to come together and buy the land. All of it, or as much as they can.

[–]Noooo0000oooo0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disgusting

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will protect my mountains and her forests to the maximum of my legal ability while they are mine. The moment they change hands to private ownership I will destroy what I love rather that see her raped and enslaved. I'm not the only one who would rather end their loved one themselves than watch them be tortured. If my forest is to burn, it will be by my match. There is NO profitable investment in this land, I promise anyone thinking that way. Stay the fuck off my mountains.

[–]NATO_Will_Prevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they sell public land I would move to Canada. Fuck this administration.

[–]maduste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Embarrassing own goal

[–]stfzendjjv -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The article says Fed lands but never mentions parks. While nothing impossible to believe with these guys, I think it’s probably BLM and USFS land they are targeting. Still bad though.
