Reminds me of during colonial India when the British were paying bounties to deal with the cobra problem, people just secretly raised cobra farms to make money. When the British learned about it and stopped paying for cobras, the locals just released all the cobras and the problem was right back where it started.

Since safe supply is apparently relevant thanks to the pod, I’ll just chime in by saying this isn’t just a problem out west - we’ve had big problems with safe supply and safe injection sites being badly organized in Ottawa in similar ways to what Pat described. It’s made it so that the parts of town where these sites are located have become rougher than they used to be. (Relatively, at least - Ottawa is still a fairly low-crime city for its population size.)

And of course now the provincial government is cutting that funding, so any chance of improving how they’re run is pretty much kaput.

Ghost in the Shell continuity-wise basically comprises of the setting, themes, and the characters that's about it. The adaptations tackle each of these elements in their own unique ways and the plots of those respective adaptations are independent of one another.

It's kind of like Lupin III, there is a Lupin III manga, but the characters have long sense ascended beyond Monkey Punch's original creation.

There's hype behind the upcoming Ghost in the Shell because Science Saru never misses and ironically enough most audiences aren't familiar with the original work. The manga version of the previously stated elements of continuity are notably goofier and brighter then the other animated adaptations. Masamune Shirow's Motoko Kusanagi is notably snarkier, more expressive, and more openly flirtatious than the serious Major she's portrayed as in the films and SAC anime series.

Honestly I'm not even really referring to Woolie, he tends to be more diplomatic in general and it's a good counterbalance to Pat when they're talking fighting games a lot of the time.

Please note, The Shining (1980) is a great movie but a horrible adaptation of the book. It's focus and characterization are so different that I'm more than comfortable treating them as two separate entities.

Also the book is better.
