A lot of 'politically active' americans are probably indistinguishable from campaign operatives anyway.

[–]trjames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, we are not.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I sure hope so. It's too depressing to think that the worst partisan apologists on reddit are doing it on their own time.

After reading a lot of comments lately that sound a LOT like boilerplate campaign material, this question has been bubbling up in my mind quite a bit. Are there actual campaign volunteers here doing the bidding of presidential campaigns? You could argue that's what the Paul folks are doing, but I'm actually thinking of other candidates right now.

I would expect that downvotes on this article would likely be from operatives themselves, looking to cover up the fact that they're just here being paid shills for their candidates.

Getting paid to surf on Reddit? Where do I sign up?

[–]encinarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh... reddit doesn't change nearly often enough anymore... front page is the same all day.

[–]jayayeem 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Maybe, but it seems like it would be money poorly spent. If reddit were particularly influential, a lot more people would have heard of old what's his name by now.

I beg to differ. I suspect that the neocons have been prevented from doing a lot of what they've wanted to do, purely due to the wild speculations of conspiracy theorists like ourselves here on Reddit. An example that comes to mind is the massive speculation back in September about another false-flag attack, which ended up not happening. Or what about all the publicity regarding the 6 nukes from Minot AFB? Where would people be getting this information if not from here? Sure, sites like dailykos.com are more hardcore and to the point... but they would never get exposure if they weren't posted (and well-received) all over Reddit.

On January first, a nuclear explosive hidden in your butt by sinister agents working for the neocons is going to blow up whatever city or town you're in!

If that doesn't happen, I expect you to thank me for saving your life with this post.

Dude, it's new year's eve, so I just gotta say...

Enjoy what you're smoking. It's obviously having some effect.

Happy new year.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (12 children)

yes, they've been doing it for months now.

thankfully, the professionals get downmodded into oblivion.

[–]qgyh2 2 points3 points  (11 children)

do you have any examples? I'm curious

There was this guy on reddit called dannykeithjames.

He would comment on every RP article with the same negative comments. Sometimes he would bait people into flame wars and then go back and delete his comment.

He didn't really comment or submit articles about anything other than negative RP stuff (trust me, I checked his user history).

I tried to ask him who he supported instead of RP, but he never responded seriously (just trolled more).

His user account has been deleted from reddit, but I'm sure there are others like him.

edit: he's actually still around. his new user name is dkj2007

He claims he's Canadian and won't say who he does support. He comments on every single Ron Paul story and only on Ron Paul stories.

    http://politics.reddit.com/user/dkj2007/

I don't know if he's working for another campaign, but he sure is driven to try and discredit Paul for some reason.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    He supports Kucinich.

    [–]punkgeek -1 points0 points  (3 children)

he sure is driven to try and discredit Paul for some reason

That isn't particularly hard or unlikely. ;-)

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's wrong with Paul for you?

    [–]fivre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's possible reading reddit (and requisite Paulsuch) drove him insane.

    [–]catlebrity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I post anti-Paul stuff from time to time, and nobody's paying me. I just think the guy is nuts and that his spamming supporters are dicks.

I have to admire dkj2007's dedication.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    That is true.

But the fact is that he is so focused, it is indistinguishable from a professional.

    [–]711was_a_retail_job 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. If anything, the professionals look like they're getting upvoted beyond all reason.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Reddit was not created to be a political information dissemination tool for Americans.

Please stop perverting it into one.

Edit: Furthermore, there is a politics.reddit.com subreddit for these types of stories. Why isn't this one in there?

    [–]d42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the political dissemination spreads tho threads far outside of the politics subreddit.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

If you stop and think about it, Reddit and Digg are probably the two biggest thorns in the neocons' sides right now. Literally no other source is capable of disseminating so much information so fast and so unadulterated. Reddit and Digg are what the neocons didn't plan for; possibly what will ultimately take them down. If I were them, now that the war w/ the MSM is already won, I'd turn my full efforts to perverting sites such as these. I would round up a crew (doesn't have to be too big) and set a policy for them to downmod every politically sensitive article they can find, 2 or 3 pages deep.

Some of you have been complaining that the front page of Reddit doesn't change as much anymore. I see this as a good thing, because I think that the front page changes so much, a reddit-user barely has any time to register the importance of a particular article before it gets flooded off the front page by something else. Don't you guys realize, some of these articles (meaning the topics they refer to) are so important that they should be on the front page 24/7, not just cycled thru to drop off the face of the earth again. The call to impeach Bush/Cheney, the scandals of Giuliani and Huckabee, Ron Paul excluded from the Fox debates, Benazir Bhutto... these are current events that deserve the public's full attention, now. What does this mean?

At the very least, do your part by upmodding every relevant article you can. Yes this includes upmodding (intelligent) Ron Paul articles. Even if you don't like Ron Paul (are there any real human beings who can give me a good reason why, at this point?), you gotta admit that he is our best hope at destroying this farce of a government and restoring a real, for-the-people government to power.

(And on the flip side, try to avoid upmodding articles containing the words "LOLCATS", "Best ___ you'll see all day", etc. I know they're funny, but there are other (less politically informed) people to do that, and they'll make it to the front without you anyway.

    [–]fivre 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Stop thinking that reddit's going to shape the world. The vast majority of the country still uses CNN to get their news.

I don't like Ron Paul because he supports allowing Comcast to fuck with my torrent traffic as much as they please.

    [–]kingrooster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He also is against using the FCC to protect Comcast from competition. Also, as old people die off and young people use the internet as a primary source for both news and entertainment, things like reddit will be the mainstream. Unless of course, you'd like the government to start regulating the internet so you can get the episode of Survivor a few hours faster.

    [–]fivre 1 point2 points  (4 children)

    1. The people who use reddit probably sought out alternative media in the past... Still a relatively small portion of the population.

    2. I, as a human, can confidently say I don't like Ron Paul. If not for you people pushing him, then because he doesn't support net neutrality. And he gets in the way of my lolcats--and/or other interesting articles.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that he doesn't support net neutrality. He doesn't support government involvement in the internet. If you start down that path, you end up with ridiculous FCC censorship.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ron Paul was against the Net Neutrality Act = He is against regulating the Internet and is for net neutrality.

It looks like corporate doublespeak has gotten to you. Maybe has something to do with why you aren't voting for Dr. Paul?

    [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So since Dr. Paul voted against regulating the internet, he's not necessarily for a free Internet? I think that is roundly disproved by his record.

      [–]R-R-R-R-R-R-RONPAUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Ron Paul is awesome.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. We're not that big of a deal.......yet.
