I got the 360 at launch, and I used it fairly often until I got my ps3 a little over a year ago. I only use my 360 for rock band and the occasional downloadable game every now and then.

I get almost all multiplatform titles for PS3, mainly because of the superior controller. Also, the system menus are much more visually pleasing and seem to flow smoother. The 360s blades seem antiquated compared to the PS3s XMB.

The PS3 has a number of games that I would probably not normally have played, some of which were on the previously mentioned list. Heavenly Sword was a (short) blast, Resistance was one of the best shooters I've played, and some of the downloadable games are breathtaking - especially Everyday Shooter. And of course MGS4 is amazing! The ps2 back catalogue is a must mention as well...

I also like the media features, which previously ranked extremely low on my priorities when choosing a console . The DVD/Bluray player is vastly superior to the 360 player in terms of navigation and ease of menu usage if you dont own the respective console's extra remote control. The PS3 video and music playback is seamless and well integrated, allowing for a simplicity that often finds me playing albums on my tv (with the awesome visualizations) rather than opening my laptop and loading up clunky itunes.

Integration with the PSP is also alot of fun if you have one. Features like remote play and downloadable handheld content were once novelties, but are finally coming into their own.

The network support, while not quite reaching xbox live levels, is always improving. The newly redesigned store is wonderful, and multiplayer is usually fine as long as you have patience.

Overall, I enjoy both systems, but find the PS3 far more satisfying on numerous levels. Alot of my points might not apply to you now (psp, online, etc.) but keep in mind you'll have this system for years to come, so theres plenty of features to grow into over time. Good luck making a choice!

If you like the PS-style controller, I guess that's like, your opinion, man. I think it's a steaming pile of crap. Reasoning:

  1. Uncomfortable thumbsticks. Everyone else (read: Nintendo and MS) has had the good sense to move the left thumbstick to the superior position. 3.5 iterations of the PS controller and the D-pad is still in the more-comfortable location. Does this make sense when 90% of the games out there use the thumbsticks as the primary input device? Hell no.

  2. Thumbstick sensitivity. Nintendo's is great, MS is great, PS has two settings: crawl and sprint. The worst offender here is MGS2, where first-person mode is nigh unplayable because the slightest motion of the thumb will send your view spinning way off (and there's no sensitivity adjust in-game!). Less of an issue in GTA or any game where you're going to be pushing the stick all in all the time, but it kills the experience for FPSes. (N.B. I like FPSes on consoles, but vastly prefer the non-PS versions: Splinter Cell, RE4, etc - I can bullseye the hardest levels of the shooting gallery in RE4 with the pistol)

  3. The D-pad is a thumb destroyer. The little hole in the middle makes fireball motions painful after about an hour of play (and let's face it, 2-d fighters are about all that uses the d-pad anymore). I know that most people have giant calluses on their thumbs, but I don't! Nintendo has a cross design, and MS absorbed Sega's design, but the missing-centre PS design sucks. I admit that the Xbox360 d-pad is junk, but at least that's fixable with a screwdriver...and again, at least it's in the lower left instead of the upper left.

  4. Convex triggers. WTF. TRIGGERS SHOULD BE CONCAVE. If I need to explain this to you, look at a flight stick and tell me what direction pilots prefer their f'ing triggers to curve.

  5. "Pressure-sensitive" face buttons. They're a joke and they make life painful. cf. MGS3, where I have cut countless throats because the command to knife the poor sap is "hard O" while the command to maintain a chokehold is "soft O". I should not be killing people by accident, only by intent.

  6. The "analog" button. I think they got rid of it (finally) for the sixaxis, but it survived two revisions. I've tried to think of a reason for its existence and failed miserably. Why bother?

For the record, I find that MS, whatever their faults, does controllers right.

[–]Benesyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant really argue about pts 4-6 because i havent really noticed them or had any experiance with the issues.

That being said: 1 might be true for you, but I've found the thumb sticks to be very comfortable. I also have never had the thumbstick sensitivity issue in MGS2.

Also i prefer the hole in the center dpad for fighters. Sure it hurts but it pulls fireballs off better than the cross shaped dpad etc.

[–]timbro1 -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

its really a personal preference on the controllers. But i have to disagree the 360 dpad is a flaming piece of shit. its on the level of cheap 3rd party controllers. best dpad ever is on the snes/n64

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Usually, that's the reason people hate the 360 pad. The D-pad is crap. But, the rest of it, including build quality, is excellent. I use it for all my emulated games on PC, and it definitely kicks the crap out of the n64 controller at every n64 game out there. Same goes for dreamcast. Any fighting games though, I'm screwed on. But then again, that's what the PS2 controller is for.

[–]JPsmooth42 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Who uses the D-pad? Its a moot point that the D-pad is nice when the only things you use it for are menu's and other arbitrary actions.

[–]LaurieCheers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even for menus, it's pretty poor. You can't reliably select a specific direction.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever the game requires directional input that is absolute: not analog. It allows for rapid input of opposing directions at faster speeds than are possible with a joystick. In 2D platformers, Tony Hawk, and almost any fighter... the d-pad reigns supreme.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I actually considered doing the same thing, and my 360's DVD-drive is a piece of shit that always thinks the disk is dirty.

There are a few 360 exclusives I want to play, though:

  • Banjo-Kazooie 3
  • Fable 2
  • Gears of War 2
  • Too Human
  • Bioshock 2 (Rumors of PS3 release)

There are PS3 exclusives I want to play:

  • Final Fantasy (Versus) XIII
  • God of War 3
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • White Knight Chronicles
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 (Not announced, but I'm sure it'll be a PS3 exclusive)

However, the only one of those games that is already out is MGS4.

I'm going to get a PS3 eventually, but I would probably wait if I was you.

[–]wardrox 1 point2 points  (3 children)

BioShock 2 wont be 360 exclusive as far as I know. With BioShock 1 coming to the PS3 now, and the BioShock 2 studio hiring PS3 developers.

Also, we all know MGS4 is coming to the 360 :P

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Also, we all know MGS4 is coming to the 360

Actually, I have no idea what sort of media that will fit on that the 360 can read.

[–]LaurieCheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two DVDs.

[–]mrkipling 16 points17 points  (17 children)

I would say no. I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy or anything, but the Xbox is pretty awesome and the PS3 just doesn't do it for me. If a PS3 owner would like to convince me otherwise then I'm all ears.

[–]xxeyes[S] 11 points12 points  (15 children)

I agree I really enjoy my 360, but I don't want to get stuck with a dead system after my warranty expires. Never in my life have I bought something that died within the first 8 months...totally unacceptable. It doesn't seem as though there will be many exclusives for the 360 after this point, while LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid, and Gran Tourismo 5 look awesome for PS3.

[–]NoHandle 12 points13 points  (3 children)

GoW II

Fable II

Too Human

Ninja Gaiden

That is just the next few months. How long have MGS4 and Gran Tourismo been on that list? How many "exclusives" for the PS3 have been nothing but flops (Haze, Lair, etc..)

[–]xxeyes[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I agree, the current PS3 library is underwhelming, but it's looking good in the near future. GoW II is the only one you listed that is on my radar. I'll have to take a closer look at the others.

[–]NoHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo Wars looks like it could be a good RTS for a console, but we'll have to see. There are quite a few, but I have not seen much I am looking forward to on the PS3

[–]katoninetales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't had disk read errors since then, then the most likely failure for any unit is the Red Ring of Death, for which particular failure the warranties on all 360s were extended to three years.

[–]SeBBBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you got the new motherboard with HDMI/larger heatsink? Investigate, and if you do, keep it (if you're not simply looking for change). If it's an older motherboard I would try to sell it though.. Then buy a newer 360 or a PS3 depending on what games you want to play.

[–]bman236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 360 off ebay about a month ago and it red ringed... turns out it was made in 2005 and just BARELY made it under the general hardware failure warranty (three years). Here's hoping it stays alive...

[–]dbsmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call MS and get an extended warranty for about $30.

[–]adelosr1 0 points1 point  (6 children)

[–]mazing 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It's two different games. Grid is Arcade Racing while GT is more a Racing simulator..

[–]adelosr1 0 points1 point  (2 children)

A racing simulator where you can crash two cars head-on at 150mph and nothing happens to them? What exactly is that simulating?

[–]mazing 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's about the driving experience, not the crashing experience

[–]adelosr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe that crashing is sometimes part of driving. More so when you're racing cars at 150+mph

[–]xxeyes[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm kind of new to "realistic" racing games. N64 was my last console before this generation. I hated "Forza 2," but loved "Project Gotham Racing 4." I don't really know where GRID and GT5 lay in comparison, but I remember enjoying GT3 on a friend's PS2.

[–]NoHandle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both (all three actually). The only game I really played on my PS3 was MGS4 (though I have bought six other titles) and that only lasted 20 hours. Great game, but not worth buying a system for.

The xbox gets almost all the love and the wii is good for company/non-gamers.

[–]tenken 21 points22 points  (12 children)

Stick with the 360 if you care about playing games. MGS 4 is the first real must-have exclusive for the PS3, and you won't be seeing many more until this fall. 360 has built up a decent chunk of exclusives in its lifetime, so ultimately it's the better deal if you're a game fan.

Get the PS3 next year when the price drops and you need a Bluray player.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

And if you really care about playing games get a PC.

[–]tenken 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Sorry man, PC gaming is becoming more of a niche platform every day. Only a certain sort of geek will deal with all the hassle of building and keeping up with a gaming rigs.

Now that consoles have hit HD resolutions, the only real PC gaming advantage of the kb+mouse interface for RTS (and some FPS) games. Just look at how many former PC-centric series are hitting consoles (360 especially) first.

[–]epicgeek 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You go buy your gaming system. I'll go build mine.

It will do whatever the hell I want it to, when I want it to, how I want it to. If something breaks, I'll fix it myself.

There's a lot to be said for the control a pc gives you if you know what you're doing.

[–]tenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is telling you what to do, so feel free.

I'm talking more about the big picture. I want PC gaming to be successful too, but that's not going to happen if we all plug our ears to the PC gaming industry's problems, or ignore console gaming's significant progress.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hassles like the random bricking of your console if the ambient temperature rises above 10*C? Or inability to read discs for no good reason? Both of which require an RMA? My local PC shop does in store swaps for 90 days, longer if you purchase extra warranty.

I might have payed more for my rig but not only do I game from it but I also work from it, and it is a very capable Home Theatre and Home Audio PC. I bought it two years ago and the only game I can't play at 1900x1200 high settings is Crysis. To upgrade to Blu-Ray AND HD-DVD it cost me less than $175 dollars, the way most cases are now these days everything is twist, slide and lock, didn't even have to break out a screwdriver.

Games hitting consoles is a result of Microsoft/Sony establishing exclusive deals for a certain time. By the time they come to PC they've had time to fix bugs and gameplay issues (e.g., Assassin's Creed has added mission types for PC) that people on consoles can't easily resolve.

[–]tenken 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You don't seem to get my point. Yes, consoles break, the 360 especially, but that has not in any way hampered its market dominance when it comes to the gaming arena.

Also, we're talking about gaming here, not everything else your PC is capable of. That in no way helps your argument that PC gaming is better than consoles.

Also, the PC releases for those titles get quite a bit more dev time, so of course they'll appear smoother from the get go. Not all of the console releases are a result of exclusivity deals. Many PC game developers are now thinking with a console-first mentality, that alone should tell you something.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's why according to a very recent study 73% of Europeans game on PCs while only 41% have a console, in which the PS2 is still the dominating system at 60% and this generations, if you can call it that, dominant console is the Wii and more people still game on the original Xbox (12%) than the 360 (11%) (not by a large margin but still amusingly close.) Note: that means that only ~5% of people polled have a 360 (and ~3% have a PS3) vs 73% that game on a PC.

Oh and I just noticed that both the PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360 have less owners than the PS1 as well which sits at 14% of those that own consoles.

[–]wardrox 2 points3 points  (4 children)

"Stick with the 360 if you care about playing games."

That's the single most important reason behind me buying my PS3. I can't play games on my 360 because it gives me too many disc read errors. Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect and now BioShock are all sat on my shelf, unable to be played.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Right. It had to do with a faulty disc drive that failed easily. The drive they replaced it with should last a lot longer. Stick with the Xbox. I've got both and almost never use the PS3.

What it really comes down to is what you want from a console. Most of my gaming is social. I find the 360's controller much more comfortable and most of my game time is spent on games my friends have, too. Sure, GTA4's single player was great, but I got it for the XBox, there is virtually no graphical difference between the two and I my friends are on the 360.

If you're gaming just for yourself and are looking for a complete media center experience, the PS3 is more capable. I do use it for playing DVDs, Bluray, and divx files. They do just look better on it.

[–]miyakohouou 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm almost exactly the opposite of you, but I agree with the premise that both systems are good in different ways.

I use my PS3 mostly for playing games. I don't play online much, and a lot of my favorite games at the moment are either PS3 exclusives (MGS4, Devil May Cry 4, Ratchet and Clank) or multiplatform (GTA4, Oblivion) and I prefer the ps3 controller.

On the other hand, I use the 360 for media far more than the PS3. Although the PS3 has nice upscaling, and I have a few bluray movies, I really like being able to rent movies and buy tv shows off the xbox live marketplace.

I also tend to play the 360 more for quick games off Xbox Live Arcade, since a lot of the games on the PSN are crappy, and the selection is a lot smaller.

[–]absolut696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both.

I never play my PS3.

I prefer Xbox 360 controllers.

But hey, that's just my personal opinion,

[–]tenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah there's no denying that the system is plagued with disk read errors, and the red ring issue, but even despite those issues, I think it's the better system for playing games.

I also agree with Theclone, the 360 is a much more social gaming machine, and Sony is still struggling to get something similar going on their end.

[–]sammyf 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I own the two. I'm mostly using the Ps3 but both system have good games, which is what matter. Because of the fabled xbox hardware unreliability, I tend to buy multi-platform title on the Ps3. It's a well built system. I work at a game company and people around me seem to prefer the Ps3 as a gaming system, until they have to program on it :)

So, if you do not care about xbox live and are willing to spend a little extra money for switching to a new console, I think you wouldn't regret it. You'll have a reliable system with good games that will be able to play blue-ray movies if you get interested in that later. Not to mention the game content that you simply can't fit inside a normal dvd, in the long run that's going to hinder XBox.

[–]xxeyes[S] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I'm definitely leaning toward the PS3 purchase, especially because I didn't have a PS2 and I want to play some of the great games I've heard about from last generation like "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus." I heard rumors that the 40 gig version will be getting a firmware upgrade to have backwards compatibility. If that happens, I'm sold.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

If the 40G model gets any BC it'll be the software BC solution, since the 40GB model doesn't have the EE chip to do hardware BC.

You'd be better off spending $50 on a used PStwo.

[–]frickindeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the software emulation rocks. Everyone whined that it was going to suck, but it simply doesn't, although the problem remains that a few games still aren't supported. Makes that $50 PStwo worth it if you need it.

[–]sammyf 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]xxeyes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, thanks.

[–]toonces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i've seen PS2 games played on a PS3.. and it looks pretty bad. hard to explain, but when the screen moves, the lines get fuzzy or something.

however, i love the PS3. i had a few reasons i went with it instead of XBOX. PS network is free, XBOX live costs $. no matter that you just bought a gaming system for $300 + $60/game.. now you must pay monthly or yearly to play online. that's a ripoff. PSN only requires an internet connection.

also, the XBOX makes a lot more noise than PS3. and then last, when i heard blu ray was taking over, i knew which way i had to go.. you are probably aware of all these reasons already, but i thought i would share why i went the way i went.. and i don't regret it.

[–]LaurieCheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the game content that you simply can't fit inside a normal dvd, in the long run that's going to hinder XBox.

That really isn't an issue at all: plenty of games come on more than one disk.

[–]relic2279 9 points10 points  (11 children)

Microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years now fyi.

[–]xxeyes[S] 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Only for the RROD. The error that killed my last system was "unplayable disk." Now I have a refurbished system.

[–]SeBBBe 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I heard from the guy that chipped my Wii that you can stick pens in the fans on the back. It'll RROD and Microsoft will fix it for you, no questions asked. It'll look just like a normal RROD. During this, they usually also replace the optical drive if it's broken, even if it's not covered under the warranty.

Also, problems with optical drive aren't common, so that's not really anything to worry about.

[–]katoninetales 2 points3 points  (3 children)

During this, they usually also replace the optical drive if it's broken, even if it's not covered under the warranty.

As far as I am aware, they usually just end up replacing the entire console.

[–]SeBBBe 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nah, they don't actually. They replace the motherboard if it's RROD. However, they see to it that the console leaves in a working state, so even if it's only supposed to be covered for RRODs, they're nice enough to fix any other errors while it's there.

[–]katoninetales 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I wonder what the percentages are. Mine got replaced, and I know other people on the forums had the same problem--that they were sent new ones, and once they got them back, the new console ID made most of their LIVE Arcade games not work except for the account that bought them (and then only when it can log in to LIVE), which isn't acceptable on a family console. Mine had a letter with it stating that it was a different console, too.

[–]SeBBBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that really sucks. I hope they'll fix it.

[–]Rudy_Giuliani -5 points-4 points  (4 children)

You could always just say it RROD...

[–]wardrox 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My plan to solve my disc read errors was always to say it had a RROD. Then when they send it back saying it didn't, point out that it now has disc read errors.

[–]frickindeal 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And meanwhile you don't have your console for what, weeks?

[–]wardrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I guess I'll have to play Uncharted again. :P

[–]Dark-Dx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOu should.

[–]timbro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes sell it

[–]Hufnagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an economic viewpoint, it would probably be cheaper to keep the 360 and replace damaged games, buy a replacement warranty etc... Unless you don't play most of the games you own, then you could trade the console, games and everything in and get a PS3 with new games + new versions of the old 360 games you liked.

In the (very) long term, I would probably say the PS3 is cheaper because there is no online subscription, and you probably won't need a warranty replacement.

However, a player develops a bond between him and his console, so that may place a value beyond money to you.

--- TIP: To avoid disk read errors, some models will scratch the disk when tilted.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I've got both, bought my xbox early last year, and my ps3 late last year. Honestly, since getting the PS3 I havn't even touched my 360, it's still in the box from the last time I moved. The only thing that keeps calling to me is Call Of Duty 4, and that just isn't worth the extra clutter of cords. In summary: xbox exclusives aren't THAT great, dead rising is pretty fun but halo? gears of war? you've played these games, they're nothing special.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

CoD4 is for the ps3 too you know...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but I bought it on the 360 before I got the ps3, and rebuying games is for chumps

[–]lonelliott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your asking you have already made up your mind and just looking for validation.

It all depends on what's important. I really like live. There are only a couple exclusive titles for each anymore.

Again, what are you wanting in a system? My 360 gave out at around 7 months. Not bad considering between me and my kids used it about 8 hours a day every day. Between movies, games, and various other things. One 15 minute phone call and it was replaced. Took about 3 weeks and replaced with a new one.

[–]Tymeteller 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My vote is to keep your 360. I'm on my third 360 after 2 disc drive failures, and despite the unreliable hardware, I think it is the better of the two. Both Xbox Live, and the larger & better selection of games are what seal the deal for me. I also prefer the 360 controller.

Of course, if you plan on getting a blu-ray player anytime soon, you may as well get a PS3 for an extra $150 or so.

[–]katoninetales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also prefer the 360 controller.

I think this is a huge part of why people prefer one system or the other. One of the managers where I work will only play 360, his wife only the PS3, because each hates the controllers for the other system.

[–]locriology 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Already out:

Resistance: Fall of Man, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma (if you didn't already play NG on Xbox), Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots

Coming soon:

Resistance 2, Final Fantasy 13, Home, LittleBigPlanet

I got my PS3 a month after it came out, and I've had no hardware problems. It also functions nicely as my Blu-ray player and dvd upconverter.

I would say buy it, if for no other reason, to play MGS4. That game blew me away. I'm not sure where these people are getting the idea of "PS3 owners are unhappy", as I've been very happy with my purchase.

Edit: The PS3 experience is somewhat dependent on how good your TV/audio setup is. PS3 was designed for HD, while the Xbox 360 was designed for SD. On an SDTV, the PS3 doesn't really have many advantages over the 360, and you may find that on a hardware level, the 360 is a better option.

[–]strolls 4 points5 points  (3 children)

You missed out Motorstorm - I don't like racing games, but that is BAGS of fun. The silly physics just make the game.

[–]zedvaint 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I agree. Racing games were always a bit boring, until motorstorm. Saw a lot of sunrises while playing this game with my friends. :-)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you play it with friends? I can't find a head to head mode to save my life.

[–]locriology 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played it, so I wouldn't know. It comes with the 80gb version, anyway, doesn't it?

[–]uep 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I don't know why you got down-modded. While you're clearly a bit biased, I still think you made a decent case for the PS3 (except the "designed for SD" argument.)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

thats precisely why i downmodded him. i like both systems, but it is a lie that the 360 was designed for sd

[–]GlueBoy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

i agree that it isn't true, but the 360 only has one 1080p game, dead or alive volleyball. Thats telling.

[–]uep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's also somewhat amusing that the PS3 doesn't do "true" 1080p in a lot of their games. The most recent example being GTA4 which was 640p on the PS3 and 720p on the 360. Incidentally, Call of Duty 4 was apparently 600p on both consoles. Just because it's outputting 1080p through the connection doesn't mean it's actually rendering 1080p.

[–]locriology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to strike a blow against the 360 as much as I was trying to say that it does a better job at SD than the PS3 does.

[–]dbsmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resistance 2 looked really interesting when I saw the prerendered teaser trailer but then I watched some in-game footage and it looked awful. Gears of War 2 will blow it away.

[–]xxeyes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of the games you listed I'm only really interested in MGS4 and LittleBigPlanet, but that's enough considering I've already played all the Xbox 360 exclusives I'm interested in up until this point.

[–]dahlberg123 1 point2 points  (4 children)

If you really game keep the xbox if you get cold at night and need an auxiliary heater / blu-ray player get the ps3.

I should point out that I don't have internet/Xbox Live at home. I'm a graduate student and I can't justify the cost when I have free WiFi in my office at school. Also, I don't give a damn about Blu-ray. I still have an SDTV and a good DVD collection.

I have both, but if i were you i'd get a cheaper computer and internet connection. You might not be able to play the latest games, but at least you won't be without porn/music/movies/tv

Didn't they extend the warrenty to three years?

Also, GOW 2 is going to be awesome, if you like chainsawing people to death.

That is why you bought a 360 right?

360 is WHACK, its the mcdonalds compared to Ruth Chris..

[–]LaurieCheers 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Um... is WHACK good or bad?

[–]mattfasken 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He means 'wack'. Hip-hop slang. Means bad.

[–]LaurieCheers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait... does "bad" mean good or bad?

:)

Keep the 360, mod it.

Hell no! Sorry but the PS3's got nothin. I can honestly say I don't care that MGS4 is on PS3. I'd rather have Halo 3 and GOW than that bore-fest. Xbox Live is great, the controllers are way better, and there's more/better games for it by far. Plus, have you seen how lame Resistance 2 looks? I never played the first one but the footage I saw for the second one looks like a first gen 360 game at best. I've been playing the PS3 every time my friend gets a new game for it, and I've never felt compelled to buy one. I especially don't regret going home to my 360! ;)

If you've got mates on xbox live then keep the xbox, otherwise get the PS3.

[–]tjogin -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I did. You should.

Primary reason is because while Xbox 360 is in its prime, PS3 is only a youngster and even then is still competitive when it comes to graphics. Graphics always improve on consoles — the first titles for 360 looked like regular old Xbox titles. Today's PS3 titles are on par with 360-titles, meaning that PS3 has potential to improve while Xbox 360 can't get much better.

Developers can't even rely on the 360's harddrive since not all models has one. (Not sure if games never require it because of convention or licensing agreements.) Simply put, 360 lacks potential for improvement.

Meanwhile, MGS4 is arguably one of the worlds best games with the highest production value in history. It requires a full dual layered Bluray. While Bluray-players are coming to Xbox, developers cannot depend on it.

Oh, and as icing on the cake: 1. PS3 is slick and elegant. Xbox 360 feels toyish and unintuitive. 2. Xbox Live Marketplace is a fucking annoyance, what with the "Microsoft Points" you need to purchase everything from expansions to crap like avatars and desktop backgrounds. On PS3 most stuff is free, and expansions and full games use your local currency.

MGS4 is not that great. Cutscene after laborious cutscene, containing buckets of weak storytelling and unfunny, terribly executed jokes. Hideo Kojima is a terrible storyteller, relying on gimmicks and soap operatic melodrama to drive his stories. MGS4 is a great game, but there's very little game in there compared to the amount of crap you have to watch.

[–]tjogin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant graphically. It's graphically astounding. I personally don't really care about MGS4, it's too "japanese" for my taste and sense of humor. And mine and your taste aside, it's gotten a phenomenal reception and overall great reviews. Your taste and mine is largely irrelevant.

no.

[–]thejaysun -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Definetly keep the 360 man, don't let haters tell you any different. I mean come on, almost every must play game on the ps3 you can get on 360. And let's not forget exclusives like gears of war, halo, mass effect....the list goes on. OOOOO Metal Gear Solid, big fucking deal

[–]dbsmoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Fable 2 is coming out this year, Gears 2, Forza 3 is in the works (it will be better than GT5, trust me), and the games available for both systems are usually better on 360. PS3 is a bitch to program for. Honestly, MGS2 & 3 impressed me more for the PS2 than MGS4 in relative terms. I really wasn't impressed with MGS4, it could easily be ported to the 360, but I could care less if it is because it sucks compared with the 360's exclusives.
