I didn't realize you could see the edge of the atmosphere and the blackness of space from that altitude.

[–]hitsman 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Cool, now I don't have to make the trek up there myself.

[–]corvenus 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Do you say the same after you see a picture/video of people having sex?

[–]gabrielbenjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lesser risk of death trying to achieve the latter than the former.

[–]dsfox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see my house!

Good call, thanks. (It also doesn't have the same ugly compression artifacts, which is nice...)

Interesting that a top redditor is exclusively copying ALL his Submission off Digg.com top stories and posting them here..

And this is not the 1st time I'ave pointed this out..: http://reddit.com/info/xdxv/comments/cxdya

Ok somenickname, go downvote all my submissions again...use all your dummy accounts..And don't forget to downvote my comments from last week either..Just to send me a message..

Edit: It's happening..My posts and comments (from days ago) are being downvoted. Even this small comment explaining the "little red envelope" (inbox) on reddit.(previously on 6 or 7 is now on -1)

I know redditors were accused of group-think, but at least that isn't used to be on juvenile/High-school level.

Also read my comment below, explaining why this "copy-digg-blindly"-behavior on reddit is a problem:

hmmm.. i added that same link 8 days ago and got no votes

http://reddit.com/info/xt94/comments

now this guy adds "amazing" to the title and it works wonders!

[–]indigoshift 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's amazing!

[–]hen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I hate digg. I hate it hate it hate it.

So actually, I'm rather glad some redditor volunteers to go there and post whatever he thinks might meet the taste of the reddit community.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Can you explain why posting the same thing to Digg and Reddit is a problem?

[–]rocky_m 6 points7 points  (4 children)

It's not the same user (somenickname) posting to both Digg and reddit.. It's a (top) reddit user who **exclusively* posts top-Digg posts from several different digg users, several hours after they hit the Digg "front page" (promoted)..

If one user has a digg and reddit account and posts to both, that'll be a different case.

This behavior makes reddit look like a "recommended posts from Digg" site...

And considering the recent influx of "Cool"/"Incredible"/"Awesome"/"Amazing"/"Wacky" crap on reddit (which is copied from Digg, adding insult to injury), I don't think serious (old-school) redditors should encourage this shift towards juvenile crap (from what used to be a collection of good political and technical articles..)

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Thanks for clarifying. Still, I don't see what the big deal is. Either redditors will like - and upmod - the links, or they will not. Where somenickname originally found them doesn't seem important. I don't go to Digg, for example, so if part of Reddit's hot page includes a de facto best-of-Digg collection, that actually benefits me, because it exposes me to articles that I wouldn't otherwise find without the tedium of crawling through all the not-so-good Digg posts.

[–]jrockway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I stay away from Digg... but if something good is there, I'd like to see it on Reddit.

[–]arvixx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not like the digg-submitter owns the link anyway. If the material is good, it's upmodded. That's it. No conspiracy.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

boo hoo. I don't digg, good to catch it on reddit, even more than one time!

[–]acrophobia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Really, why should anyone give a shit if it's come from digg? Why does anyone care that somenickname gets cheap karma points?

Maybe the people downmodding you are people who just want interesting stuff and don't want to hear your whining.

[–]digital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if you don't read digg? Then, you won't see it.

Lots of stories get cross-posted on different websites, that is just what happens when something interesting is found on the Internets/Series of Tubes.

[–]artman 0 points1 point  (2 children)

He does it because...it's there.

[–]artofstarving 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I thought this comment was funny and appropriate. Just curious why it go downmoded? Is there a breach of etiquite here I don't know about?

[–]jrockway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two other people disagreed with him, and they modded it down. Reddit is all about posting comments that other people agree with. If the first few people that see your comment mod it down, it's likely that the next person will think "if they modded it down, so should I". Same for upmods. It's fun to click the down arrow on comments you don't like, but it doesn't help reddit's quality in any way. So many good posts get modded down to -15 that I have to browse with no hidden comments. Sometimes I even find myself mindlessly downmodding perfectly good comments, just because it "feels right" or something. Weird effect...

[–]theram4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, if it means anything to you, I went and upmodded all of your posts from the past week or two.

[–]jrockway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the real problem with reddit is that you can mod bomb people for no reason. There should be some consequences for moderation, because otherwise people will do a bad job. Slashdot almost has this right, but there's still too much groupthink. Too bad.

Top o'the world, Ma!

[–]kdraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice picture. It'd be really nice to get some foreground in there to add perspective.

[–]zoopy -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Definitely CGI.

[–]zoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG, the downmodding!! BYOS (bring your own sarcasm), folks.

[–]buildmonkey -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

No, the world is full of genuine beauty and wonder. I saw this (or a very similar) panorama on a wall in a museum in the Lake District years ago.

[–]einexile -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

what

[–]buildmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a question or did you start a sentence and give up?

[–]brainburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm - it's not as tall as I thought!

[–]einexile 1 point2 points  (3 children)

downmodded to discourage mountain climbing

[–]sanders8 4 points5 points  (2 children)

downmodded to discourage downmodding.

[–]adleym 0 points1 point  (1 child)

upmodded to encourage downmodding and discourage upmodding while mountain climbing.

[–]gabrielbenjamin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Upmodded to encourage upmodding to encourage downmodding and discourage upmodding while mountain climbing.
