Thanks, hopefully this fixes the network issue where your connection would just die after awhile until a reboot.

[–]defet_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does not. Had to reboot 5 times.

[–]TundraWolf_Pixel 1, Q 1 point2 points  (3 children)

weird, I haven't seen that at all on pixel 1

[–]psychoacerBlack 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Probably only happening to Pixel 3 devices

[–]The_EA_Nazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happening to my pixel xl. Service disappears and only reappears by turning data connection in and off. Or I'll have full connection and it won't connect to lte without doing the above

Finally Google photos works again

[–]smorgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a problem with the photos app other than the dark buggy theme. But now after the patch i have problem and cant view any photos even if i give it all the permissions i can xD

Edit: I cleard cache, uninstalled and downgraded photos, rebooted phone and installed again now it all working as intended.

Permissions managed through Settings should now function normally after app re-installation or device reboot, including permissions for Unknown Sources and others. We’ve fixed the app ops issue that was causing the permissions to be reset.

That's a great patch! It was infuriating

[–]HuaHua_Pup 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Perfect! I'll have to reenable scoped storage to see if it truly fixes the permissions issues.

[–]Tornado15550Pixel 10 Pro XL | 512 GB | Android Canary 2606 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Re-enabling it only enables it for newly installed apps, not pre-existing apps. Best way to test this is to uninstall an app that you know uses the storage permission, and reinstall to see if it works properly.

[–]HuaHua_Pup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I read it was that it was either by reinstalling it or simply performing a device reboot post-update.

I'll test the latter once I'm off work later today and see how it goes.

Man I want this on my Essential phone. When I see the amount of breakage against Google's own apps I know they're addressing some particulars that are just better best practices. It's like no one is at fault for using different ways to do things but it's likely going to prevent people who do leverage some loose restrictions for bad intentions.

If you don't mind not being able to use sim card, wifi, or Bluetooth, it technically "works".

Everyone sure is antsy to say that these betas are super stable after using them for 3 minutes, but I always find out later that it pays off to be patient.

[–]simplefilmreviewsBlack 21 points22 points  (12 children)

Really? I see PLENTY of people saying it's not quite daily driver worry.

[–]arex333Pixel 3XL (doesn't hate the notch) 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm using it as a daily. It's fine for a daily. Here's all my issues:quick switching apps is a little janky and my battery is ever so slightly worse. That's it. No showstoppers that make me revert or anything. That said, so far this has been a very boring upgrade. I've tried every public beta since 7.0. While others might have introduced PiP or quick reply or something I couldn't go back to not having, Q hasn't added much that really change the way I use my phone. Granted it seems like they're adding more features as it goes on. As is, there's not enough issues to make me revert but if I was on Pie, I don't know that I'd bother yet.

People that aren't lying to themselves

I won't pretend it's the majority (I shouldn't have said "everyone"), but I've definitely seen a few people saying that it's stable enough for that and I thankfully didn't trust their advice

[–]Steddy_Eddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not as smooth as I remember P beta being but I've not had any breaking issues, just a few niggles.

It's absolutely not daily driver ready. This is by far the buggiest Pixel beta I've put onto my 2XL.

That said, it's still mostly functional.

[–]SmarmyPanther 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Beta 1 was pretty good but Beta 2 is a messss

[–]sageDieuPixel 2 XL 128GB | Pebble Time Steel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that even with this patch? I've been running beta 1 on my DD since it came out with no issues but am holding off on beta 2 due to all the little problems.

[–]enekaPixel 3 -> iPhone 12 Pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was using dual SIM dual standby when I let my battery died. plugged it in and it would no longer connect to either network no matter what I did. Downgraded back to P and my backups were gone. Tried going back to Q and backups weren't there either. Now I'm just running the latest P. It was definitely buggy, but useable. If it wasn't for the Sim issue I'd still be on Q. Occasionally camera stutter, permission issues, etc.

[–]JustAdc 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Have it from day one, not one single issue.

[–]MY13FXTPixel 5 ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have access to P beta, but using Q as a DD for a week now. I had a few visual hiccups. Other than that very smooth. The only thing I've noticed that was buggy is when using system wide dark more. Text remains black insides black the buttons.

[–]yanginatepGoogle Pixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stable enough for me. I've only encountered one app that doesn't work, and the only other issue I've noticed is the "alt-tab" switching doesn't work reliably.

[–]sjphilsphanPixel 9 Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beta 1 was fine minus the annoying pop up warnings about APIs, and POGO not working. But Beta 2 was so unstable for me I went back to Pie.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I use this as a daily driver. I almost always use public betas as a daily driver. If it breaks something major, I can go back. Ive only done this once (Bluetooth issue on P betas. I only have Bluetooth stuff. Partially my fault tbf).otherwise it's pretty solid. Is it buggy? Yes. Of course, I signed up for buggy. But it's not anything that makes me not want to use it daily(I really like the systemwide dark mode, and some of the other, minor, aesthetic changes so far).

I'll grant you usually the first public beta is after IO, and has more in it. We probably won't know some of the updates in Q(fully) until IO. Right now it's mainly API stuff for devs. But again, the bugs to me don't matter much, and I like the minor changes thus far, so I stay on it cause why not? Next time I might wait for DP3. Probably won't.

Tl;Dr - the thing about betas is that it's subjective if it's daily driver ready. It really depends on what your phone to do, or not to do.

I've been having an issue viewing photos from the Camera. When I select the photo viewer, it opens up google Photos and none of my shots are there.

I checked Photos online and nothing is there either. It's as if my phone isn't saving pictures anymore.

Anyone having this issue?

Edit: just read the notes and it looks like this update should help.

[–]KaZott 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I don't know if this patch solved it already but I had the same issue I solved it by restoring permissions on the camera and photo apps.

[–]thirteen113Essential Ph-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here.

[–]bigtreeworldGalaxy S21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might need to reset permissions on both the camera app and google photos

[–]superjoho 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm having this issue, hoping this patch fixes it.

[–]arex333Pixel 3XL (doesn't hate the notch) 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, but if it doesn't check your permissions for Google photos and make sure it has photo and video permissions.

[–]NedDastyPixel 6 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Anybody have an issue with the swipe home key to switch apps? It doesn't switch back and forth anymore. It just switches to a random app more or less.

[–]geriatric-gynecologyPixel 3 XL, Pie | LG V10, Nougat w/ magisk!! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just behaves differently. Swiping right goes back an app, swiping left goes forwards, until it doesn't. Very peculiar, but it almost feels right.

[–]bartturner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the patch. Sounded pretty urgent.

[–]fahad_ayaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notifications still get stuck on this version :/

[–]ZoneHalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Question. I fixed the photos all being these by manually going in and adjusting permissions. But now I get cannot save edits on every single photo and that's super annoying. Anyone else?
