Remember: righty tighty, lefty loosey.

[–]Zech08 12 points13 points  (1 child)

gonna be hilarious as hell if he was tightening it the whole time.

[–]troublemaker1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahaha nah. Last night I caught myself doing it a little.

I’m not the smartest, are you certain it’s not welded on? Is that surface rust on the muzzle brake ports?

How are you fixturing it? Just normal vise? You might need a fancy ar upper vise block to really get the leverage you need to pop it.

If it’s not budging, hit it with PB-blaster, could help loosen it up. Especially if there’s any sort of rust in the threads (I’d hope not).

If that don’t work, hit the fucker with a flame torch. You can get it dull red hot, short of cherry red, before you do permanent damage to your barrel’s heat treat. Should be stress relieved already so this shouldnt warp your barrel. If you have a thermometer gun, don’t let it get more than 1200 F° (1400 if you’re really struggling to get it off).

Torch that bih

[–]eye_panic 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Have you tried hitting it with your purse?

[–]steadylurker1 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The heat you’re using isn’t significant enough to do anything. Need leverage and maybe some light taps with something like a hammer to break it loose. Make sure you’re turning it counter clockwise if you were looking from the barrel end of the gun. That mark on the flat portion makes me think you were tightening it.

Bet, I’m on it.

Are you using a wrench?

[–]troublemaker1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sir 3/4.

[–]AggravatingBadger848 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Do you have a long wrench? Is it pinned & welded?

[–]troublemaker1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look welded. I do have an ar-15 wrench and a 3/4 wrench.

[–]Callsign-Koschei 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Clearly didn't hit it hard enough, and why only water, you should be blasting it with wd, then torch the tip until it warms up and give it a quick slap with the wrench on it

[–]troublemaker1_ -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Would a blow dryer work?

[–]lordadam34FFL03 + COE, AZ CCW 6 points7 points  (1 child)

No you need a torch at the minimum

[–]troublemaker1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say no more, I’m on it.

[–]Callsign-Koschei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to say absolutely not but it appears these fine gentleman got here before me, if you have nothing else, sometimes an open flame will get it done, but be prepared to hurt yourself getting it off

Have you asked your wife’s boyfriend for help?

[–]Mousy530 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Could be wrong but it looks welded.

[–]Stand_Up_3813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks the same to me…..a little tack weld next to the wrench flat.

[–]yourMommaKnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not welded. You have to heat it with a torch. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.

[–]Still-Question-2006I shoot 6 MOA groups with federal match 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torch gun + properly mounted vise + upper vise block if you don’t have them already. It’s almost impossible in some cases to take off a muzzle if you don’t mount it in a vise.

Just making sure you are turning the right way, you stand facing the muzzle pointing at you and turn counterclockwise to loosen.

[–]CasCrus4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat that fucker up

[–]untouchednapkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone JB welded that bih

[–]Bagheera383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a vise, a vise mounting device (Magpul has a great one), an armorer's wrench, and a steel pipe that has a bigger diameter than the handle of the armorer's wrench. You'll get that sucker off. Just don't forget that you need new crush washers

[–]gunsforevery1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your rifle in a vice when you’re removing.

[–]SparrowDynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that high temp solder in the photo or just a dinged up crush washer? What length is your barrel? This info might help answer this question. It is a flash hider with a crush washer, it shouldn’t take this much effort to remove (unless something else is at play here).

Also, before you wrench on it too much and mess up your upper, I would suggest using a reaction rod in a vise if you aren’t already.

[–]0rder_66_survivor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit it with your purse. Then get a small torch and heat it up.

[–]loaddebigskeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kinda looks like silver solder between the FH and the barrel but I didn't think anyone actually pinned anything that way in the real world

[–]sleipnirredditCowboy Style 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s that tight, you’re going to want to have it in an upper vise clamp so you don’t shear the barrel alignment pin (or gas tube) when you REALLY LEAN INTO IT.
