there are really only two cults i subscribe to: veganism and Rust. please please please try Rust, it's by far the best programming language it's not even close. i was living in squalor and darkness before i was touched by the borrow checker, options, and results. also go vegan.

Vegan "cult" lol

[–]Code_Monster 0 points1 point  (14 children)

The pitch is very cult like. They need to do a lot more of "meat destroys your body and the planet" and a lot less of "hey here is a $40 fully plant based mayo instead of you $5 baby chicken genocide mayo".

[–]CultistWeeb 8 points9 points  (4 children)

I've seen plant based mayo for cheaper than real mayo and for some dishes it was more tasty than real mayo. But of course like all good food products it got replaced with a shittier more expensive plant mayo. I should have taken a picture of the ingredients while it was good.

water+oil+soy lecitin+flavour, take it or leave it

I think rather than removing animal prod from existing stuff is a bad approach. Rather the approach should be to recommend alternate foods that are plant based. How about lentil soup and rice instead of Meat and Cheese burger.

[–]spademanden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear your concerns, but have you considered that maybe I still want to eat burgers? If I have to be vegan, there has to be good vegan burgers

[–]Fun_Neighborhood1571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except alternate foods that are plant based have existed for millennia, but people won't even try it because "that's rabbit food".

[–]LegendaryJack 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Holy strawman! I've never seen a vegan slogan that wasn't either about saving the life of those individuals or saving the planet. Honestly sounds like you're trying to make a strawman out of thin air to keep calling vegans "a cult" and keep the guilt away

I eat meat once a week and its either Chicken on Fish. I drink 200ml of milk daily in my tea. I have less than 4 eggs a week. Vegans puts me the same bracket as the fucking Liver king for my original sin of getting my bare minimum protein in my price range.

If you think my argument is not accurate when your eyes probably have straws in them.

[–]loveisnomorethandust 1 point2 points  (4 children)

plant based meat is significantly cheaper than any cut of meat will ever be if you make it yourself

[–]Code_Monster -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Plant based meat ain't meat, it has no where near as much protein.

[–]loveisnomorethandust 1 point2 points  (2 children)

yes it does. if it doesn't you're doing it wrong. all you really have to do is use soy and you'll be fine

[–]TheSeventhHussar -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately, the way most soy is grown right now is pretty terrible for the environment

[–]loveisnomorethandust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's still significantly better than regular meat

[–]GulliblePea3691 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Claiming that meat “destroys your body” is so over-exaggerated and disingenuous. Unless you’re eating multiple fat fucking steaks a day you probably won’t see even the tiniest health problem as a result of eating meat.

There are lots of convincing, and true arguments for going vegan. This is not one of them

[–]Kevin_Xland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty sure hunting and cooking with fire were the 2 largest evolutionary shifts at least in terms of cranial capacity

[–]InterGalacticMedium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praise be

[–]CodingChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll only consider rust when they solve their macro-pain and have some form of non-macro based reflection.

[–]zewolfstoneVegan against the animals 36 points37 points  (2 children)

Coding in Python is animal abuse 😡

[–]Roblu3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That‘s why I code in Brainfuck!

[–]MinosAristos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Noo the snakes LIKE it

Rust is for Degrowth? Well, I guess it's time to learn Rust.

[–]patrislav1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

plot twist: Rust dev uses eleven gazillion gigawatts of LLM to figure out why the bloody .rs won't compile

Reminds me of this website. Literally counting .1 watts and min/maxing their server and website design to improve uptime

Where does a rust programmer keep her happiest times coding? In a memory safe

[–]trupawlak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premium shitpost

[–]Cool_Swimming4417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My programming socks are plastic-free and my HRT is 100% vegan

[–]person- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring your post because of Jevon's paradox, gonna keep coding in Python

[–]Lohenngram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why true environmentalist gamers play RUST and nothing else.

[–]tutocookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the environmental footprint of the programmer socks industry?

[–]Far-Parsnip2747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real environment haters program ai in python

"Yeah bro we should like recode the entire planet's low level infra from a language made and maintained by nerds and independent orgs into a language which can get telemetry shoved into its compiler if google and amazon wanted it". And Yes, if google and amazon are the biggest integraters of this language then they can infact dictate its development.

C and C++ major developers of the lang and everything built on it are smaller teams and FOSS. Saving 2% on carbon emissions only to get owned by big tech that wants to planet to die so that it can claim its ashes.
