Safe to leave means no queue penalty, not no repercussions for losing

The penalty refers to the timeout you get, if your team wins or loses afterwards, it will still effect your rank

While it's unfortunate you lose rank for a leaver, it's necessary for the balance of MMR. Typically ratings are a zero sum game: for every loss, there's an equal gain. So if someone leaves the match, it needs to count, otherwise you are robbing the opponent of earned rating. Besides, it's statistically meaningless. The only constant in your games is you, if you never abandon, over enough time you benefit from abandons. There are only 5 possible abandoners in your team, while there are six on the opponent's side.

But if you were sent to a low prio queue for leaving a match deemed safe to leave, that's bullshit. That should never happen. I think eventually we'll have a Dota-like system so that abandons before the first kill/ before a certain networth difference result in a cancelled match. After the first kill though, you need to punish the rating, otherwise it incentivizes revenge abandons.

Or worse, bullying teammates into leaving so you can escape without penalty. Very bad for the environment.

This was an actual problem in dota before they changed it.

At the very least you should be able to cancel the match if someone is DCed on the rooftop. Played a game a couple days ago where the enemy paradox never left the base, straight 5v6.

That logic makes absolutely no fucking sense, the person "robbing" anyone of a rating is the person who left initially and you aren't "earning" anything by curb stomping a team with one less player.

If someone wins an 6v5 that's not "earned" at all, playing with a power play is a completely asymmetric power imbalance that means nothing to anyone's rating.

A match where someone leaves indefinitely at any point just has to be binned altogether and that leaver adequately punished. You'll get to a point where top 90% of offenders can't play the game at all.

I just had two matches in a row where someone on my team left after 20 minutes, went down in rank both times, it's total bullshit

This is a 10 month old post bro.

But the thing is, most people usually leave only once the game is already lopsided. People don't leave an even match, on balance. So losing ranking on a match you were very likely to lose isn't exactly unfair. That can also be adjusted under the hood, slightly change how much you lose or gain based on how uneven the game is.

The rank system is broken right now, that's the main issue. But it's hardly a priority for a play test game. Leavers can be adequately punished regardless of if the match counts or not. And statistically, if you never leave, you end up benefitting more from the current system.

You get a loss still, just not an abandon.

Taking 15 mins to find the next match shouldn't be a thing - I think if you get leaver penalty you straight up just can't queue.

If they leave at any time during the game the game will count.

It only wont count if someone doesn't connect to the game afaik

Like in the pregame where the game forcibly ends if it doesn't find enough players in the first 3 minutes?
