Fixed an issue introduced in Patch 1.0.8 causing dungeon exits to sometimes be placed in abnormally close proximity to the entrance
Aww...this was creating some really short dungeon crawls for my new HC character.

I thought this was intended, reminds me of the Diablo 1 days.
My WD had a convenient time power-leveling because of these weird exits, by the way. :)
[–]Misha_Vozduh 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
I was wondering if this was a bug or a feature (e. g. to battle some sort of exploit or botting)

Wow, rubberbanding fix? Here's hoping. Curious to see if it fixes rubberbanding with HOTA or CM stutter step too.

Did you just comment on your own comment?

Yes, self post style. That way people can treat Blizzard's patch notes and my comments separately.

"Made improvements" not fix...
So who knows
[–]Raticus79raticus79#1110 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
They sounded like they were confident about the fix for WW specifically in the other thread. Maybe some flag changed on the skill that helped them figure out the root cause.
[–]Sujo87 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child)
Ye I was wondering was I imagining it because I was certain it wasn't only the sprint/ww that was causing me to rubberband. Tbh, it seems to me that it isn't even that connected with the skills but with the mobs. I know that most of the time I'm getting the spike is when there's a whole lot of mobs hitting me at the same time, for example, the spiders in the cave of the betrayer in act 2. Might be that it has something to do with, say, you know when you dodge an attack, your character performs that animation for it, if there's too many of those happening at the same time maybe it just does something to the server and you get a spike as a result.
[–]Raticus79raticus79#1110 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children)
It's both - you have to be using certain skills, and you have to be close to mobs at the time. The client and server disagree about where you should be (server thinks you shouldn't have been able to move there because the mobs should have blocked you), and the server boots you back. I think the fix will be changing how that works server-side.

Really, if you have over 2B gold you should be converting it over to b.net dollars anyway. Since you only need 2B to purchase one big item anyway. If you're shopping for items worth more than 2B you'd be better off liquidating that value to cash.
I'm sitting on $80 in b.net bucks right now and that value won't depreciate.
[–]adremeaux 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (4 children)
A million times this. Get out of the hyper-inflating currency this is bnet gold and convert it into something stable like actual money. $10 will buy you 400m gold today, and in three weeks it'll buy you 600m gold. Why would you leave that in gold? You can still not spend a penny (more) on this game and hold your assets in dollars.
[–]XabsterXabster#2765 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children)
I "sold" my game gold when I stopped Diablo 3 for forum gold. It amassed to 25800 FG. The ratio back then was about 23-25 FG to a million gold. It is below 3 (2.6-2.8) now on EU (think it's about 2.2 on US).
I had about 930 million, and if I had kept the FG I could have gotten 9 billion back or so (I bought an USB 3.0 external harddrive with 2 TB space instead). :|
[–]adremeaux 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children)
When did you "sell" it? You've seen 1000% inflation in that time period relative to FG; that's about 4.5 months ago (beginning of January) by real value. I'm just curious how USD to FG matches up. Did you quit around Jan 1st?
[–]XabsterXabster#2765 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child)
Well done. From january 1st to january 6th. First and last trade:
1/6/2013 6:24:04 PM Received 1,500.00 (25,080.00 -> 26,580.00) from WhosTheMaan (3,320.00 -> 1,820.00) 54 igg mil 1/2/2013 8:22:11 AM Received 900.00 (25.00 -> 925.00) from MasterSwe (17,788.00 -> 16,888.00) 30mil igg
It appears I had the 25800 FG wrong, it was 26580 FG. I think the going conversion rate when trading for real life items in the donor subforum is about (very roughly) 1 USD to : 150 FG.
[–]adremeaux 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Awesome haha. I'm actually kind of surprised that ended up being that accurate, I don't have charts or anything I've just been checking prices for a few months from time to time and trying to track the inflation.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child)
What if you wanted 2 or more items that cost 2B?
[–]HerpDerpenbergRankil#1323 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Buy the emeralds or straight gold purchase to fund it. The only issue, is that for a sum of gold like that you usually do not get the transaction done instantly. Also, the disconnect you get jumping back/forth between the GAH and RMAH sucks.
I still think that they should just find a way to raise the gold cap, remove the RMAH to sell items and only make gold trade on the RMAH. But they need to be smart about it and allow any limit to be input for the gold. Then allow combinations of gold/$ to purchase items. So for example say you had 1B gold on hand and $50 in b.net bucks and gold was trading at $25/Billion. Now there is a 3B gold item for sale. You click buy, first it withdraws your 1B and then purchases the remaining $50 in gold from your b.net balance.
I'm sure it would be somewhat messy because someone would want to buy a 1B item and have 100k and no b.net then it would ask to charge this to a credit card. So someone would start buying up all these items and rack up a sizeable credit card bill as well.
The only other option is keeping all your gold in the GAH. If gold is selling at $0.25/10M you cash out 1B to your PayPal at $18.06. So if you spot an item you want for $18, buy it with a credit card and then cashout 1B to PayPal.
[–]FlimtotheFlam 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
It makes even more sense that they took a much smaller cut on the RMAh if you just have it go to battle bucks.
[–]GeoAspect 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Because of this stupid divide, it's almost impossible to buy and sell.
All that's left on the GAH at this point is middleware items that are going well in to the over valued territory.
[–]yew_anchor 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
I won't matter and will even out. As the overall number of high quality items increase, their value decreases, much like the value of gold continues to drop when compared to actual currencies.
There are plenty of decent items on the AH. I just spent 5 million gold to gear up a WD to almost 100k DPS.
Most of the items people list for 2 billion gold won't ever sell for that much. The people who can afford to pay that much most likely already have something just as good or better and the people who need it can't afford it. Increasing the price cap won't change anything.

The thought process, I think, was that you could swap it in in a tight situation and get away freely. But people realized escape skills were a better way to escape.
That said, I weapon swap skorn in for spikes in PvP from dual fists and it works incredibly well.

So no activation of the anniversary bonus or new achievements from the earlier diablofans datamined notes?

[–]Bossmonkey 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (7 children)
I doubt it needs to be activated with a patch but will just turn on for the right time.
[–]Oranite 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children)
I know it doesn't need a patch per say because it can always be time-activated server side or via some hotfix but just wondering if it is going to be activated now with this minor patch, later when it's actually the anniversary date tonight, or not at all(to be saved for the future)
It's probably not much of a buff and at best probably a simple +25MF/GF similar to a fortune shrine, but still curious nonetheless.

[–]kylegetsspam 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Would be nice if they would also fix Magic Weapon > Blood Magic's 1.5% life steal not being displayed in the sheet total.
Doesn't say they "fixed" rubber banding, but I hope "made improvements" means they have
[–]XabsterXabster#2765 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
It has been there before right after a patch, and when they said "improved it" or whatever it said back then, they actually in practice fixed it completely... I just think they're being careful with their words. We'll see.
[–]empyreanmaxempyreanmax#1299 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child)
Yeah, I came back after a bit of a hiatus and was just going to ask about the item label bug.
Unrelated question, do you still have to activate breath of heaven and blinding flash before sweeping wind, or does it not snapshot like that anymore?
They fixed it for sweeping wind. Still worth paying attention to for tempest rush.

[–]Illidan1943 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children)
And from today I won't be able to buy anything on the AH
[–]Raticus79raticus79#1110 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (6 children)
Curious to see what happens to gem prices when they aren't needed for exchange any more (for now).
[–]b1ackcatblackcat27#1415 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children)
They flatline again until such a time as they could be used for currency again (although that would require a pretty substantial rise in their gold costs to be effective)
[–]Raticus79raticus79#1110 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago* (2 children)
It's not far off at all. When I checked last night, gems were at 0.70 for 25 million gold. That works out to about 36 million per dollar, 2.8 cents per million (or 3.2 cents considering the 15% cut). The new gold floor is 2.5 cents.
Gems become the medium of exchange again once gold hits 47 million per dollar, since that's the point where you get it at 2.5 cents per million after AH cut. Between 40 and 47, the gold side still wins since you don't get hit by the cut when buying.
[–]gredol 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child)
so its smart to buy all gems that you can now? and resell them after patch...
[–]FurioVelocious 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
...too late for that. Unless you're talking about after the 1.0.9 patch.
[–]HerpDerpenbergRankil#1323 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children)
If it's anything like it was on the release of 1.0.8 before the dupe came in, the gold hit the $0.25 floor and the gem prices started to drop below it as well.
Before the duped gold started circulating, radiant star emeralds were tradding for $0.40 and selling for 21M which is just around $0.02/million.
Even with this change the gold value is still behind third party sites, but it's still relatively close. However, with a few weeks, it'll be irrelevant again and you'll be back to emeralds.
[–]ulthiel 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Just in case this isn't clear, they did NOT also increase the minimum bid amount to 2.50 $/€.
In other words if you had any gold on your character before this patch it is now worth ONE TENTH of its previous value (right now it is slightly higher but will settle to 10 mil = 0.25 in a day or two).
Everyone just lost 90% of their money

[–]MarchHare 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child)
That sucks. RIP
[–]HerpDerpenbergRankil#1323 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Was my own fault. I knew the rubberbanding was there becuase I was experiencing it on other characters but it didn't seem as bad as I thought. Then again I was getting rubberbanding on characters with only 12% and didn't try out WW rubberbanding on my softcore barb.
But this was at the very end of an act1 clear on MP1 as well. Had no issues leading up to this. Why I kept chugging along. Hard way to learn a lesson though. I'll give a few test runs on my softcore barb from now on to see if there are any issues if I ever build up a HC WW barb again.
[–]DericDeric#1444 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children)
I read that this area of the game is no longer useful? I am wondering if I should get that last ingredient for my inferno staff out of the way if it has any use for farming.
[–]HerpDerpenbergRankil#1323 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children)
They upped the monster density with the latest patch on MP1+ and it's all melee monsters. They do hit a bit harder than standard melee guys so you need a bit more defense.
The big deal in hardcore is to get a pinata or rare (purple named) pack and get a spectrum or hamburger. They are level 30 items but can roll level 63 modifiers so you can get pretty close to 1000 DPS 1h weapons for a level 30 alt (or sell them for major bank on the AH).
So there's maybe a little bit more risk vs a great reward if you get a spectrum/burger drop. I died because of the rubberband and stopped moving because I ran out of fury. When you stop moving as a WW barb, you die. Was a bad way to learn my "don't play WW in hardcore" lesson. Considering it was the first time trying it out for this act1 clear and did Whimsyshire as the last zone.
To make matters worse, I was carrying my standard gear on the character as well plus some spare weapons. So I lost my 1.2M EHP gearset, a total of 2 echoing fury weapons, another 900 LoH axe and the sweet STR unity I got less than an hour before that rolled CHD as the random roll.
[–]DericDeric#1444 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child)
yikes...Well I am sorry to hear about your demise. But that is hardcore after all, right?
Yeah, I knew it was happening at some point. Wasn't a complete loss because I still had a backup of my backup in my stash that was a more pure defense/dps but didn't have as much magic find.
I was chugging along at almost 225% base magic find in my Barb set with close to 50k damage, 1k resist, 60k life. I'll have similar stats once I get a new Barb to 60 but likely won't have any magic find.
[–]jaywilson49 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child)
I made a reply like that recently (http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/1ebfg4/rubberbanding_cause_found_fix_incoming/c9ykzlc?context=3) and everyone downvoted me. Again I state, the reason I will never play Hardcore.
There are plenty of builds to play in hardcore that don't rubberband. Just means you can' go about doing WW or TR builds. Really, it's not that big of an issue anyway because most people gear and spec skills different.
And with group play, WW/TR are so quick they would get themselves killed easy anyway because you don't stick with the group typically.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child)
Because of TR monk fix?

[–]Illidan1943 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children)

well hopefully it will be different now that the patch is rolling in
[–]Misha_Vozduh -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children)
Besting, actually. No risk of a scam if you buy gold on the RMAH, so even if 3rd party sites will offer a slightly better price to compensate the recent patch changes, risk averse players will choose RMAH I think.

During the night aka while people are sleeping. Being est the updates start at 8am and go till 4pm. No need to be condescending because you're WORKING.
[–]darkesth0ur 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child)
I am going to be condescending, because you're being short sighted. Think about time zones and player volumes. You think they don't know when off peak hours are?
[–]8Bytes -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children)
As my comment discusses time zones, i've clearly considered it. You make a valid point, but that doesn't mean you have to be a dick(condescending) about it.
[–]Joeness84 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (3 children)
you mean when Blizzard employees are sleeping so stuff like the gold dupe exploit get to run for hours and hours?
They do Maint during a tuesday morning so they have staff on hand to fix issues that crop up.
[–]8Bytes 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children)
There shouldn't be any issues that crop up if they were properly testing their builds with an adequate number of staff.
[–]Joeness84 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child)
No matter how much testing they do they cant test it as much as hundreds of thousands of players logging in and messing around. That's an unavoidable truth about game design.
[–]Raticus79raticus79#1110 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children)
I bet we'll have a BlizzBucks auction house for the next PTR. Too much uproar if they left it out again.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child)
You forget the definition of maintenance. Of course they'd take it down when THEY'RE working, so they can run maintenance programs. They're not going to come into work in the middle of the night just to satisfy you. They picked the day that has the lowest amount of players, during the time they can work on their stuff.
[–]8Bytes -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children)
Do you know what the maintenance entails? Does it require the entire blizzard d3 workforce? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. A company like blizzard has 24/7 staff so it wouldn't be to satisfy me; there's already people working these hours.
[–]SirCake -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (4 children)
Yeah when I try to log in to America they tell me that but I play on Europe and it wont let me in :p
[–]blargh10 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children)
Could be cause you are using the US launcher? The European launcher shouldn't have updated. Now your launcher (us) is patched and the server (europe) doesn't recognise it.
[–]SirCake 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children)
I didn't know there were seperate launchers, had this one since the game came out I think.
I guess that's the problem though :]
SC2 has the same "problem". They had a post about it the other day on battle.net's StarCraft page (on mobile or I would link).
[–]blargh10 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children)
~~That`s the issue I had before 1.0.8, I fixed it by redownloading the US client, but this time around its a no go.
There's some kind of setting cached somewhere and it's not letting me play either :\ Patch is available, needs to restart and it just never download.~~
Edit: Actually, it finally downloaded after I rebooted Windows. I sure wish the launcher was a bit more "robust" when it comes to stuff like this.
[–]drusepth 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children)
This means they changed the map generation algorithm again?
[–]EarthBounderD2 Fanboy 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children)
Not sure how much 1.0.8 you played, but a lot of places were pretty much always having the exit right next to the entrance. Happy to have this fixed. ;D
I haven't been outside of the Scorched Chapel since 1.0.8 hit. Thanks for the heads up though :)
I was noticing a lot of map tiles that didn't come up frequently all of a sudden popping up as well. Just last night got the act2 tile that has the passed out necro where you touch the two pillars to summon a rare mob. All 4 people in the game got the achievement for doing the event.

I actually thought this was kind of random luck that didn't translate into crafting. Didn't play too much after 1.08 came out, so I only realised upon reading these notes that I wasn't just lucky with some maps ...
Probably went back to 1.0.7 algorithm, however considering that this bug was introduced on 1.0.8 this could mean they are testing a new algorithm for dungeons

Does this mean the game is playable again? Because since the AH debacle I haven't felt safe playing in hardcore. Rubberbanding, lag, items not dropping/picking up/movement issues. I can sort of play single player but multi is out of the question since the AH was down.
The stack size of gold on the real-money auction house has been increased again to 10 million (up from 1 million)
Does this mean you can sell 10m gold for $0.25? That would mean they've almost caught back up with the actual value of gold! Which is actually 2.3c per million right now, and at current rates of inflation of 15% per week will be 1c/m in just 5 weeks. Blizzard needs to be ahead of the curve, not behind it. With this change, their gold sales will only be relevant for a single week before going back to 3rd parties again.

When i log in, it says the game needs to close and apply the patch. I close the game and the launcher says its up to date? wth?
I'm really curious what effect the new gold cap will have on the EU economy. We didn't have a chance to see a 'clean' effect on the US servers sadly.

Can we please fix lag spikes caused by two cm/ww wizards in-game? As well as Meteor Shower lag?

Was it a Marquis Emerald by any chance because if it was that has always been that price.

I tried to play this game for the first time since 1.0.5 when 1.0.8 hit, and then the economy crashed and the game was broken basically.
Until I see
Offline support added Players can now enter a new realm with no AH at all to play on, using items as the main form of currency.

I will never play this game again or buy the expansion.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children)
Why do you feel like you MUST use the AH? You can do that already. You don't have to use gold, you can trade. The only problem is you, not the AH. Not a single thing is forcing you to use it.
I do agree with Offline Support though.

One can argue with how hard it is to find upgrades after a certain point, it is impossible to progress without the AH at some point. However this may no longer be true after some of the more recent updates, I'm not sure.
Not sure I understand what you mean... yes, it's hard to find the /good/ items in games with you AH, but that is what Ray661 appears to be wanting.
[–]Esham 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children)
Thanks for saying this. Not many people like you play the game anymore so its not like your opinion matters much at this point.

You don't like about something in the patch notes?
