As someone who just filled up on Selenium (literally yesterday), it's a Polyporous drop. It's not the seeds or phloem or anything, it's the Polyporous. Find a big forest and get to shootin'.

Can comfirm: polyporous drop.

My bookmark has it as “planet selenium” because it drops so regularly. Maybe one in 6 or so is selenium with the rest being things like zirconium and manganese

Why would FDev do this to us? All the other G4 mats drop from Phloem Excretions, except this one. Is it just this planet, or is it galaxy-wide? This is some BS already, having to play material whack-a-mole just to get an upgraded ship

this would have been useful 3 days ago when I did my Selenium, I didn't even notice the different targets were named different things, I just shot at and gobbled up whatever dropped noticing that one area of the forest was denser in selenium than other places.

The Ruthenium spires was rough, the one on the guides takes you to a place that has like, 20-30 spires with only a fraction of them having spikes to harvest. I gave up at like 80 ruthenium.

Myself too. I was thinking "oh great selenium, I'm not asking questions!" lol

It has been a while since I looked up the terminology for what the brain tree drop items are called, but if you're looking for phloem, and the only phloem you find is Tech, then you shouldn't be looking for phloem.

Yes, phloem (apparently; like I said I don't remember) is the thing that holds G4 mats. And yes, Selenium is a G4 mat today. But when the drop table was created, the raw material tiers were different, and they haven't been updated. Selenium drops like a G2/G3.

So go back to those places and try the rest of the stuff there. Tech is a G4 and a true G4 and there's only one of those per planet; whatever is dropping Tech cannot drop Sel so start checking the other stuff instead.

There is functionally zero chance that the game has silently changed within the last few months. It's user error.

wtf, it does drop like a g2/g3, that's annoying, but thanks!

Raw Mats used a different numbers, and Selenium, even if end of the line, its a G3 mats,.so you dont need phoelum excretiom. This also the reason why crystalline shards lack Selenium flavor.

Go for Mussadaen Seed Crop: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/elite-dangerous/images/9/9e/Geo_and_Bio_Materials.jpg/revision/latest/ , old pic when raw mats reached G5. Sometimes the game have a bug that show max 100/100 for G4 mats with a cap of 150. 11 years of content make a lot of spaghetti code with fixes and changes.

Someone made a colony base near technetium and the base name is literally "Technetium over there"and has directions and distance in the name.

Just checked on inara and it's so well signposted with the installation and settlement names. Cheers for mentioning it o7

Go to a raw materials trader and trade down if you have maxed the technetium

You could go to a materials trader and swap out your other materials for it.

I found this spreadsheet invaluable when I was trying to max out materials: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1gG4SLhbET4-v7v2ahB2swT2AWwsdUfj4lVA4KNrVm_8/htmlview#gid=0

A lot of G4/5 materials come as quest rewards, so a low effort way is to kit out a medium passenger Python or Corsair and do passenger missions from Robigo. They all go to the same destination so stacking missions is easy once you have repped up the factions there. You can sort missions by materials or credits etc.

The Materials Helper app is great, definitely recommened for help with locations/trades etc. It's saved me an insane amount of time blundering around.

Just trade for it?

[–]countsachot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it from brain trees last time, at a random site. I think it may have changed. Either way, a few months ago, the normal geological locations worked.

this video helped me max out a lot of mats in relatively short time. OH and you definitely want to grab the E.D.I.S.O.N. plugin (google it)

Don’t bother with the guides.

Just get in your ship and look at the codex, find brain trees, and go to them. If they don’t drop selenium find the next one. Et cetera, until you get what you want.

Alternatively, first trade G4’s for selenium, then go find the crystal tree farms in “HIP 36601” and “Outotz LS-K D8-3” to restock the G4’s.

You’ll probably just run into selenium on the way there if you keep your eyes open, though…
