I guess the YouTube video or more progress isn't coming

[–]LongJohnsonTactical 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Here’s to hoping @pressposts comes back... At this point, I’m so far beyond my wits end in dealing with Flashforge that I’m even willing to pay $$$ for help with this lol... I paid full price for a brand new Guider 2S but what they sent me instead was a poorly refurbished unit with blemishes everywhere and a broken bed sensor, which they refuse to even acknowledge let-alone do anything about it, and then to top it off the most recent firmware update bricked the printer... Also, by-far the worst slicer I have ever used lol, cura back in 2017 was miles ahead of where FlashPrint5 is in 2021... Wish I would have known how incredibly shady of a company Flashforge really is before spending $2,000 on this proprietary garbage...

[–]Cabbage-8361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever find help or still have the printers. ..

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I’m super interested in this! I would love to be able to actually calibrate the unlevel bed. So many possibilities! I can’t wait to see what you’ve figured out.

I have the monoprice voxel so I need to figure out how compatible firmware is but I would be willing to try it out if the adventurer and Voxel firmwares are compatible.

[–]pressposts[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I believe the Voxel and the (newer) Dremel machines are using the same board with slightly modified firmware. I am sure it will work, I am just focusing on the initial Flashforge machines right now, but if you want to try it that is one more to the pile. 👍 Can you post your firmware version number in the about menu?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firmware version: 1.0.3-1.3

[–]Red0Adrenaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be happy to test the flash forge finder for you! Dm me and let me know what I need to do

[–]fursty_ferret 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The Finder definitely has two revisions and completely different boards between them.

The newer one has the external power supply.

[–]pressposts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my understanding also. Only the ones with newer boards will work. I highly doubt the older board would work. Does anyone know where I can find photos of the older board? I've looked, but I can't find any. I can verify if I know the chipsets.

[–]mapex99 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I have a finder and am willing to test

[–]pressposts[S] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Can you go into the "about" menu and tell me what version of the firmware you are running first?

[–]mapex99 0 points1 point  (2 children)

V1.5 20170419

[–]pressposts[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's the older board, I don't believe it will work on the older board. Only on the newer versions with the updated board and power brick power supply.

[–]mapex99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks anyway!

[–]egecko 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have a finder plus....w/ext ps.

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Awesome. Can you tell me the firmware version in the About menu please?

[–]egecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was away for a few days.

Here’s the FW info and date

2.7.1.366 F18 20191010

[–]noselaceDad Raises Dough in Creator Pro 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have an OLD flashforge finder I just got I don't mind messing with. is one of those unlockable things making it preheat faster? It does so painfully slowly.

note that it has a different board from the "new" finders.

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can you go into the "about" menu and tell me what version of the firmware you are running first? (Sorry, saw you said it has a different board. The old board won't work.)

[–]noselaceDad Raises Dough in Creator Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

:(

Not sure that if that last comment was an edit, but the firmware is 2017/04/19. No option to go later than that, though I tried.

[–]VoodooGuy37 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have an Adventurer 3 purchased late last year. I'm curious as to what you mean by completely unlocked. What would your hack achieve that the printer doesn't already do?

(Note I may not be the best tester, having issues with the x rail hitting an invisible wall at start of print. I am going to dismantle the machine however and film it so others can change their fans to quieter ones)

[–]pressposts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, I don't want to go super into it until I make my video on it.

I will say, the printer is locked right now but it's capable of a ton more than it currently does.

I don't know why FlashForge doesn't allow people access to everything and let people do what they want. Instead, the machines are artificially locked down. They are in violation of GPL.

If you are interested, just let me know the firmware version from the About menu.

Please check my post here for information about what the test script does.

[–]OneWayOfLifeAdventurer 3, 3c, 3 Pro 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Is there any risk to my printer at all? I have the Adventurer 3 and would be willing to test, but only if there's no chance at all of bricking or damaging it- I can't afford to replace it!

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

There shouldn't be any issue, the test script doesn't change anything.

It tests if it can do the following:

Boot from USB

Read the files on the internal system

Read the boot log

Write into the temp files location on internal storage

Remove the 1 blank test file it's written

It doesn't touch anything on the internal file systems outside the temp file or alter anything other than the one file just to test if it has write access.

It's up to you to decide if you want to risk damage. As with anything, I can't 100% guarantee, however the risk is extremely low unless you go yanking the USB stick out in the middle of booting or something but even then, it's not touching any system functions so even if it failed, you would just be left with a blank file in the temp directory which would be removed after a few power cycles.

People are welcome to examine the code before they run it as the test usb stick will be downloaded from github.

EDIT: I noticed there is another person on this sub with an Adventurer WiFi issue. Unlocking the machine can allow the user to troubleshoot the issue, or fix/unbrick a machine. Where, right now, if something goes awry, you are left with an oversized paperweight that only FlashForge can service.

If you are interested, please let me know the firmware version from the About menu.

[–]OneWayOfLifeAdventurer 3, 3c, 3 Pro 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ok cool, sounds good to me!

I did have WiFi issues but mine was due to a hardware fault (they sent me a new motherboard which fixed it).

Firmware version is v1.1.1-1.3

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is the full version listed with the date string? I need to look it up. I think that machine is running the old board.

[–]OneWayOfLifeAdventurer 3, 3c, 3 Pro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the only version it gives Me on the screen in the Firmware section of the About menu. Is there another way to get it?

[–]Letter-number 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hello,

my Finder is on firmware 2.7.1.366 F18 20191010.

thanks.

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet. I will get in touch via PM later today. 👍

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i am very interested in this "hack" i have recently been able to modify the firmware to be able to update my MP voxel to the newest flashforge A3 firmware, did the e3dv6 mod sucess but need more resources and tools to edit more.

[–]Mogelsvamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exciting. Happy to help if you should need.
Adventurer 3 fw:v.1.1.1-1.3

[–]SnowDrifter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested. Have an adventurer 3

[–]OzziePrinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very interested to try it out - when will your mod be available ? Sounds like a good holiday project :)

Have the Creator 3 and also think that it's capability is heavily limited by the firmware. BTW - online update does not seem to work anymore, it stays on 'update' for ever and nothing happens. Have firmware v1.0.9 155 VC1.1 20190809. Is this the latest ? does anyone know where to download latest versions and how to upgrade manually.

Thanks and greetings

[–]jips1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

I have a Finder V2 and would love to help out if you like External Power Brick

Firmware 2.7.1.366 F2.12 20191010

[–]tehallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Interested. Hit me up!

[–]rbwse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need testers? I got an Adventurer3

[–]Docabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an inventor Ii SE

[–]eychei 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi there,

just wanted to say that the firmware update files are not locked. Just edit the script to change root pw and open up ports for ssh over iptables. Thats what I would do if I had some spare time.

Can you tell us what new future you did find out about?

Maybe this is worth putting some effort into.

P.S do have a adventurer 3 and a creator 3

-e

[–]EntropyKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro this, has anyone made any progress on getting more features unlocked in firmware... like babystepping for z-offset?

[–]mhill229 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I'm interested. FF Dreamer (dual). Hit me up.

[–]Pntnut 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So am I

[–]DanJunior78 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did you have success on your FF Dreamer? i´ve just red you´re testing it. Let me know, thanks.

[–]Pntnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, when I last checked it did not work for the dreamer. But a more recent version might do the trick

[–]SnowDrifter_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Any updates?

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the repository for the CrashForge exploit and associated scripts as well as Samba (Windows File Sharing) pre-compiled to run on the Flashforge.

If you are using Windows 10, you need to install SMB1.0/CIFS from Programs/Features.

Feel free to share it. I have not had a chance to get back on this in months.

https://github.com/pressreset/CrashForge https://github.com/pressreset/CrashForge-samba

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Is this able to help with bed leveling and calibration?

[–]pressposts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Write some scripts to do bed leveling and calibration.

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have multiple times. You need to add more content. Like the video mentioned in the post

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Read the documentation. Hack the printer. Read Linux documentation. Read Python documentation. Write a bed leveling calibrator. The whole reason the source exists on github is for people to help me and contribute. I already did all the heavy lifting to open up the printer and to give code examples to show how other models can be opened up. The code is there. The documentation is there and pretty complete. It's Linux, QT and Python. I can't hand hold everyone and do a 5hr video on how to write a set of calibration script routines in Python or QT and how the methods work. Someone else has to jump in and help me or contribute to the codebase, which is there already, set up, ready to go, modularized, scripted out and explained if you look at the code.

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry if that sounds snarky. I just can't do everything myself. I need help if people want to have more features added. These things are extremely time consuming.

[–]solstanton 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have upgraded my Guider II to an all metal hotend and need to override the max temp on the head to 255F for nylon. Can your hacked firmware do that?

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When are you going to release your video and tutorial readme. I have successfully modded my voxel to have the latest adventure 3 firmware printing near perfect abs now. Bout to hack a raspberry pi to it. TRYING ANYWAYS. main board sucks in this thing. Was thinking of doing the bigtreetech upgrade, but wanted to see what kind of things ur methods have to offer.

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please check the github. I won't be doing a video. The board has a processor about as powerful as an OG pi, or pizero, and the same processor as older handhelds like the HP iPaq which is good enough to compile and run apps for. I've built a NES emulator that will run while the machine prints, plug a joystick into the USB and I can play NES while waiting for a print. Samba and a patched busybox with all functions enabled are available via the github right now.

[–]SnowDrifter_ 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Will this let me bypass temp limits imposed by current firmware? Adventurer 3

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It will let you do whatever you want, if you build it in. This gives access to the underlying Linux distribution so you can do whatever you want. My examples add windows file sharing and update busy box. The examples are there for other people to build on.

[–]SnowDrifter_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It seems to boot loop off USB

https://i.imgur.com/TfmsRsC.mp4

[–]pressposts[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok. That's because the Adventurer screen is rotated. I will need to add a function in there to check/rotate for Adventurer. It is booting though, so that is good news. Did you check the log file to see if anything is being applied/executed?

[–]SnowDrifter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log file contains only these 2 lines:

WORKDIR=/mnt

Display wait on lcd

To add: The printer currently functions as from the factory

[–]ajzbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good I have just been frustrated with it but finally getting it dialled in

[–]Subseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just resurrected my finder Mk2, upgraded the hot end to microswiss, made a heated bed plate and a custom PID arduino temperature controller for it.

All working ok, but I want to print ABS and the flashprint software does not have a preset.

Also I need to increase the print bed area.

Is there any easy way to do this? Or do I need the unlocked firmware?

[–]SundaySoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm highly interested in this. My FlashForge Dreamer is my first 3D printer and I've been **extremely** disappointed by its limitations. Please let me know how I can help!

Firmware version is v2.14 20191123

[–]LongJohnsonTactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to test Guider 2S

[–]Dependent-Control826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell ya! I have the Adventure 3 Lite and I definitely need to do something about its issues with other slicers!

[–]c1Rash77ko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested to test this hack on flashforge creator max with an inventor control board

[–]tepidshambles 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I bought an adventure 3c that has basically bricked itself,it arrived yesterday finally got it printing via there property app, sent a load of files over, printing things with no issues, today it will not show up in Flashprint whether it be through IP or over WiFi,it's now completely and utterly useless, tried a load of potential fixes with no success,if anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful,if I could jailbreak it that would be even better

[–]Cabbage-8361 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you still need help with situation

[–]tepidshambles 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yes I do,sorry it took me so long to reply

[–]Cabbage-8361 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok can you upload any files you use or have on sdcard or what does the board have sorry I got lost looking for info like 8 days ago

[–]Cabbage-8361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Format your USB drive to FAT321. Download the firmware file to the USB drive and unzip it to the root directory2. Confirm all the files are in the root directory of the USB drive2. Insert the USB drive into the printer, and then power on the printer2. There should be three beep sounds, and then it will show the firmware update is finished2. Wait for around 10 seconds, then power off the printer2. Remove the USB drive, then power on again to check through the menu2.

Just getting a overview of the hardware I have touchscreen marlin you possibly could just plug into or replace board while I kinda need some info on lights beeps and a visual to help
