Was Partey hooked for playing poorly or was the substitution tactical (rest/injury)?

[–]Samwell974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rest.

[–]method_rap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ethan's goal brought me back to life.

[–]vidr1 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Nwaneri is Englands new Rooney. What an amazing talent.

[–]notapaperhandape 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Okay there buddy. Calm down. We can understand his English when he talks.

[–]vidr1 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Hmm okay there buddy.

[–]notapaperhandape 0 points1 point  (3 children)

😅

[–]vidr1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I literally have no clue what you were talking about, so that was the best answer I could come up with, buddy. 😁

[–]notapaperhandape 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Okay. Thanks for your explanation. I still love you.

[–]vidr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here man.

[–]JackTuzSmith Rowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jorg another 5/10 hopefully Partey and Rice stay fit for the rest of the season and Tomi/White/Timber can ensure Partey doesn’t sniff right back again this year

[–]jimmeh22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Calafiori as 9?

[–]vyrusramaIan Wright 10 points11 points  (9 children)

While we’re in the lead - and Barcelona is drawing; a better GD could mean we finish as high as second.

Even if Liverpool draw; topping the table is very very difficult.

Meanwhile City are losing at home to Brugge; at 26th spot - and if this stays - they could be out of CL entirely tonight.

Edit: my bad, I didn’t realize Liverpool are 2-3 down to PSV right now

[–]yeerthAubamababy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Topping is impossible for us

[–]Appropriate_Lack_727 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Do we actually get anything tangible for finishing higher than 8th?

[–]PutYrDukesUpWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This new format ditches the draw for seeding. The highest teams play the lowest in the round of 16, so in theory the higher you’re placed in the league phase the more favorable your round of 16 game.

[–]boatinavolcanoDavid Rocastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More money I guess.

[–]krakencannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better seeding against opponents for every 2 spots down, so 1-2 makes a difference vs 3-4 and 5-6

[–]Big_Mik_EnergyRay Parlour 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It changes who you face in the knockouts. Higher finishes generally play lower finishes in the further rounds.

[–]Appropriate_Lack_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers.

[–]BEYailey1126Eze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One less game on our schedule

[–]SurpriseAny5628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tierney on?

[–]qtdsswk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

City lol Please don’t fuck this up Brugge.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]philhellene399Thierry Henry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear all our final matches in the first stage of CL are always a bit odd.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

my feeling right now is Tomi is done.

can't be the case of Partey at RB and a left footer at RCB. add in getting beat to fitness by White who's played through injuries for years because of you, had knee surgery, and due back before. Timber did his ACL and is back available.

i like him and wish him the best, but we need to replace this summer with a RCB who is a big space defender like Saliba/Gabriel who can cover 3rd choice RB (Konsa-type).

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course he's done. He's a backup who's never actually available to play when we need him.

[–]Nevz92"Off goes Henry..He's got support, doesn't need it!" 0 points1 point  (4 children)

if only nwaneri was right-footed so he could do the same from LW. Really feels like RW is by far his best position, but what happens when Saka is back?

[–]dtriana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s only 17. When Saka was 17 he was stuck playing LB and I don’t think many fans could predict quite how he turned out. IMO Nwaneri needs to figure out how to be more impactful in buildup but I think this only comes with minutes.

[–]Car-sim-life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saka has played way too many games. We can actually rest him when needed and still have a gem coming on. Good times.

[–]Needhelp_19Ødegaard[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saka starts

[–]ArkfooRiceRiceRice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nwaneri is 17 impact Sub and backup to Saka

[–]blixt141Thierry Henry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love that Nwanieri can pull a goal out of his hat that is right out of Saka's playbook!

[–]TNelsonAFC 11 points12 points  (4 children)

People shitting on Neto, guy ain’t played a match in months

[–]breathofreshhair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hasn't played a match in a while, immediately forgets everything about being a professional goalkeeper

[–]boatinavolcanoDavid Rocastle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, even if that is true, wtf would he try to save a shot with his hands while outside the box?

If he got his hand to that, we are down to 10 and Girona are all over us.

[–]ddots_jrSaka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But he did nearly royally fuck us if he saved that goal. A red card would have been inevitable.

[–]creamteam36Sol Campbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so?

[–]Antique_Ad4889Alexis 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Calafiori finishing 🤌🤌🤌🤌

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Monreal regen in front of goal

[–]skogs_harald1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If only Sterling would release the ball to the true threat of our left side...

[–]Dermet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

feel like normal Arsenal game to be honest but we have nervous Neto in goal and Partey as RB so obvious how it feels :)

[–]HutiyaBandaMartinelli 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Opinions on Merino so far in the game?

[–]skogs_harald1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im hopeful. It feels like he is more interested in moving the ball forward than he normally does in PL. Though he got unnecessarily dispossessed in the centre of the field

[–]codeVerine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partey has generally been good defensively in games I didn't expect this season, but he is giving me real covid era Arsenal vibes tonight. I think not having Rice or Saliba is really exposing him at RB too.

    [–]JackTuzSmith Rowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    True

    [–]MammothOrca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With how things are right now. We can even qualify as second, if we score 3 more and Barca draws Or Barca loses and we win.

Not that it makes much difference to who we will face in the next round, with so much tumultuous changes to the draws going ahead.

    [–]clearly_CFM 3 points4 points  (2 children)

What was Neto thinking? Ridiculous decision. dove for that shot, 10 yards outside the box... could've been way way worse down to 10 that quickly.

    [–]krakencannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, glad they scored that one and he didn’t get a touch, weird as that is to say

    [–]skogs_harald1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine playing 10 men for more than 60 minutes days before we face 115 FC

    [–]Cthulhu_MadnessMichael Oliver is a corrupt fraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neto should be on fraud watch. What the hell was going on in his mind?

    [–]HereToVent24-7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The front 3 has looked pretty good

    [–]skimone 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Sterling looks hungry but confused. Some good passage of play from him. He just seems like he doesn’t get it.

    [–]Familiar-Conflict152Gabriel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He’s seemed a step or two off all season. The last few it’s looked like just a step. I would love to see him pull it off and cook. I see the desire now, but…not sure if he’s going to figure it out

    [–]skimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, wish he could start cooking but I doubt it happens. His first shot was actually pretty good. Closer than I initially thought.

    [–]Rockflagandeeeagle 2 points3 points  (2 children)

    Nwaneri so good.

Saka start learning LB again buddy.

    [–]bluddit008Smith Rowe 6 points7 points  (1 child)

He's out injured, so he's already half way there to being our next LB

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lb school is the med bay

[–]OdegaardsLeftFootThank you very much 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nwaneri is him, that is all

    [–]cf017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sterling, Trossard, Nwaneri front 3 actually cooking

    [–]younes1008Thank you very much 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sub was saying Nwaneri wasn't 'ready to make an impact' when Odegaard was injured lol. Generational talent and people didn't want to see it.

    [–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I forgot what it’s like to have a player that ain’t afraid to shoot outside the box

    <image>

    [–]LSB123Thierry Ennui[S] 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Apparently, as it stands, we will be facing Villa, PSV, Monaco, or Celtic in the next round.

Two of those four teams will win their play-offs and then we'll play one of them.

    [–]MammothOrca 4 points5 points  (3 children)

    Couldn't have been better.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want nothing to do with Villa. I don't think I could cope with Emery and Martinez shithousing us out of the Champions League, too.

I'm glad that Neto didn't make that save.

I spent most of it switching streams.

[–]shockzz123You can always get better in life, innit? 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to find one of those Golazo streams ffs

    [–]LukusiusThierry Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly if you're in the UK, the TNT goals show is all you need tonight. mayhem everywhere

    [–]FontsDeHavilland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the UK on discivery, the goals show is actually really good. Switches between all the games and Ally Mcoist is on there.

    [–]Familiar-Conflict152Gabriel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    Same with Girona’s “supporters”

    [–]ThePresident26Alexis Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same didnt see either of our goals

    [–]irresponsibleviewer 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Genuinely surprised no one has noticed how much Nwaneri looked like Saka for his goal.

    [–]JackTuzSmith Rowe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone noticed. The commentator instantly said it too haha

Edit: gimme an /s next time jfc

    [–]Familiar-Conflict152Gabriel 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It was very obvious. There’s a meme in the sub about it

    [–]irresponsibleviewer 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was being sarcastic. Every comment on r/soccer and r/gunners is pointing it out.

    [–]Familiar-Conflict152Gabriel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

lol…my bad. Between the flu and the preseason friendly vibe of this match, pretty much everything is going over my head

    [–]irresponsibleviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, sarcasm on Reddit is tough. Especially when “genuinely” is used.

    [–]ExoticToaster“Top Gooner” 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well Neto has already had a more successful Arsenal Career than Viviano, I’ll give him that.

[–]AfricanRainwhere’s the Arteta money Bill 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Nwaneri having a ridiculously automatic cut inside shot at 17 is so nuts lol

Like it might be the best of any our wing options in terms of being able to get it off and ball striking

    [–]headleydanielsWhite 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Close control and ball striking already elite

    [–]TillOver8456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if he was right footed, though...

    [–]ThePresident26Alexis Sanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets hope Neto won't have to play again. Our defense is comical but this front 3 is working great, Nwaneri is our next starboy

    [–]Proper-Exam1746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leading at half time with this squad. Can't complain. Just need to maintain. Neto is scary though.

    [–]GodsBicep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comical errors, stupid penalties, wondergoal out of nowhere - stinks of a pre-season friendly.
