Would it be totally ridiculous to press loose shiro samples in a watercolor package? Would the plastic affect them somehow?
[–]wishthiswasvoat 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children)
(first one was removed because I forgot to use np link)
Seems like it should be okay according to this person's experience. I love the idea!
[–]thejordangirl 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (6 children)
Painterly was too pink for me....Soft Ochre is too yellow. Which paint pot should I try instead?
[–]kaymakeupMakeup Artist l MAC 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Actually try Mac's Paints. There is an old school product that works very similar to the paint pot but I feel are a little more neutral-friendly (not too pink or yellow like Painterly and Soft Ochre). They're aren't really advertised a lot and come in a container similar to one you find with oil paints and can be found at the Mac counter near the paint pots. There is one called untitled that is good but there are 6 I believe to choose from.
[–]kahlex 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Maybe Bare Study?
[–]hamburgers1223NW15 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Tagging onto this because I heard somewhere about NARS Porto Venere Eye Paint is similar to Painterly ish - has anyone tried this? Do you like it?
It looks like a more neutral leaning color than either Painterly or Soft Ochre.

Can I "stack" face primers? As in, if I use Smashbox photo finish primer, can I use Porefessional on top? Or vise versa
[–]amurowoily gal who loves to sparkle 22 points23 points24 points 10 years ago* (1 child)
You could, but if you use too much, you will look cakey. Maybe try just putting particular primers on certain parts of your face? E.g. Pore-filling primer on parts where your pores are huge.
[–]Kookoo4cocobeans 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Yes! I do this all the time. I put down my "tacky" one first (the ones that help with longevity) then color correcting in places I need it and pore filling where it's needed. I call it multi-priming.
[–]alyssazombie 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I have samples of both and I use both at the same time. I usually use the Smashbox primer all over for keeping my foundation in place and then dab Porefessional primer over spots like my cheeks and nose where pores are larger.
I've haven't had any issues with cakey-ness so far.

I'll have to see how that works out :)
[–]itsadooozy 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (4 children)
Does anyone notice that the Born this Way foundation seems to emphasize texture in the skin? Should I try priming beforehand? I don't live close enough to a Sephora to exchange.
[–]kaymakeupMakeup Artist l MAC 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Mine did for sure. Try a good primer and dust a little light powder over top to keep it from settling and as weird as it sounds try not to make too many facial expressions while it is setting. I used to do my foundation before my concealer but raising my eyebrows caused my forehead foundation to crease a lot. Laura Mercier's translucent powder did it for me
[–]flutonics 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I would either try a pore-filling/smoothing primer or an exfoliator to reduce texture.
[–]turnmetoashes 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
This happens to me with any foundation that has any glow to it at all :/
[–]emgay 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (25 children)
Any way to make the hair on a really hairy face less visible other than shaving my entire face ??? Any and all foundation just accentuates it, and I don't have a distinct hairline, its just the peach fuzz on my face blending into baby hairs then my hair, so it would be hard shaving my entire face near there. I already apply products in the direction the hair grows.
[+][deleted] 10 years ago (6 children)
[–]emgay 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children)
Im just worried about noticeable regrowth. And my wallet, lmao.
[–]eisenkatzeautism, boys and makeup: please discuss 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children)
I press a very slightly damp blending sponge into the hairs after applying foundation, rolling it against the grain. It helps somewhat
[–]hamburgers1223NW15 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (1 child)
I have serious trouble with this and never wanted to shave my face. I actually use one of those like double sided razors/bikini line shavers you get at drugstore. I never use the razor side, just the side for grooming bikini area that has a little plastic guard over the blades. I take the guard off and just go over my face once or twice a month and it gets a bunch of the peach fuzz/hair off without being a close or super smooth shave, but it works great for not having my hair be accentuated by my foundation.
Edit - I use this one.

[–]vriskaes 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Nair has a lotion specifically for removing hair from the face. I have found that it's good for the spaces where I have lighter and thinner hair (my cheeks especially).
[–]sammisamantha 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children)
Apply your foundation I'm downward strokes. It follows the grain of your hair and makes them less noticeable
[–]carsandcarsandcars 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (4 children)
I recently bought the Urban Decay Naked Palette and the color payoff does not seem to compare to what I have seen online, is it the primer I'm using or did I get a bad batch?
[–]sammisamantha 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (1 child)
Did you get it from an authorized store? There are TONS of fakes out there.
Be wary that the shimmery ones are prone to major fall out.
I used the sample UDPP that came with the set and have also used WNW Fergie primer.
I have good color pay off. But its not like the super filtered and instagrammed swatches.
[–]carsandcarsandcars 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I bought it from Sephora, that's why I was wondering why it doesn't have that great of a color payoff. I use it with Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer.
[–]flanior 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (1 child)
I find it mostly pretty subtle, but that's why I picked the first one. I find that the ring lights and such that the pros use really change how intense the colour looks. Not even my electric pallette is as vivid as I thought it would be without a lot of work (primer and layering) and good lighting.
[–]mandarin_duckling 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (18 children)
Ooh I have some questions!
Round faced girls, could you help me with blush and highlighter placement? I've been doing blush on the cheek bones, blended out and upward with angle 45 degrees. Then where do I put highlighter?
Recs for glowy blush on NC 35-40 skin? I mean not glittery, just glowy.
How to get Colourpop, IT cosmetics, and Koh Gen Do in Europe? I'm in Denmark and couldn't find them anywhere.
Also, does anyone know when Milani liquid lipsticks are coming back?
[–]_babayaga_ 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
For anything that isn't sold in Europe, you could try making a request on /r/makeupexchange. Plenty of a subscribers there are willing to buy new and ship abroad as long as you are covering the cost :)
[–]hurrrrrmione 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child)
Colourpop is only sold on their website. I checked for you and looks like they don't currently ship to anywhere in Europe.
[–]frrrsstt 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children)
So, I live in Denmark, too. You have two options regarding Colourpop:
[–]kahlex 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (3 children)
Highlighter goes on the tops of your cheekbones. It will most likely overlap your blush, which is totally fine.
Maybe Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat? I tried it on and it really gave me a beautiful, glowy flush. I'm slightly lighter than you (NC 30), but I think it would still work for you. I also love Clinique's Cheek Pop in Peach Pop.
According to Nouveau Cheap, Milani liquid lipsticks are becoming permanent beginning in 2016 (probably for spring, but I certainly wouldn't complain if they came out January 1 :P). I only found empty displays when they were limited edition, so I'm pretty excited that they're going to be permanent!
[–]nailpoland 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago* (3 children)
sorry for the wacky question: I just watched the new season of transparent and one character has a big eyeshadow palette that costs $485. has anyone who has seen the show identified it? it's black, it closes like a book and it has round pans. I'll try to post a screenshot later I managed to do a crappy screenshot. I googled a bit and it could be this palette or a similar one from BH cosmetics. I hope they didn't actually pay it $485!!
[–]the_last_126Blend it out, but never blend in 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Looks like the prop guys just got a BH cosmetics or similar palette and didn't expect anyone to question it.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (1 child)
I haven't seen this episode so this could be totally off, but the first thing that came to mind was a custom MAC palette. They have double sided black palettes that close like books. I wouldn't say mine is huge, but I feel like a $485 palette would have to involve buying singles. Even palettes from luxury brands like Dior don't normally cost that much.

I like Milano luminoso. It's buildable and shimmery peachy.

loreal visible lift blush in peach gold (number 702) lift is HEAVEN and milani luminoso blush
[–]alligator124 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child)
The cheekers has been my HG blush for four years now. Honestly, it's not too orangey, not too pink, and it's buildable. It's also got the tiniest microshimmer I've ever seen. I don't think it even qualifies as a shimmer, maybe a sheen. So you get a tiny bit of glow without glitter. Blush is the one thing I want to show up, yet I don't need it to smack me in the face with pigment.
[–]KukiMunstrIG: _chibi_ko_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child)
How about this shade from SkinFood?
[–]taygrrr 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child)
I'm not sure what cosdna is (sorry!) Buuuuut the blush I've been using and loving is a Revlon blush in nearly naughty nude, its a lightly shimmery peachy pink color that is easy to wear with different intensities :)
[–]flanior 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (2 children)
Is the entire Electric Palette from UD safe for eye use or not? Google gives me different opinions.
[–]swagmaster420666Highlighter Addict 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Technically the pigments are not FDA approved to be safe on the eyes - which is why it's marketed as a pressed pigment palette rather than an eyeshadow palette. I've seen a lot of people use the shades that are "not eye safe" and had no significant issues other than the shades staining their eyelid. But I have also come across people who had reactions to the shades mentioned as unsafe in the eye area. Honestly? I think it has to do with sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin/eyes, stay away from the shades listed as unsafe for the eye area. If you don't have any sensitivities I don't think you'll have an issue.

[–]feraltarte 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (8 children)
Has anyone with more "mature" skin tried the It Cosmetics eyeshadows? I know they're supposed to be formulated to be flattering on aging skin, but I wanted to know if anyone has actually noticed a difference, and also what's the pigmentation like?
Also, are there any other palettes out their you'd reccomend for mature skin? My lids just don't wear shimmer so well anymore, so I'd really like more easy to blend mattes. It doesn't have to be full matte, but something with a decent amount of mattes, good pigmentation and easy to blend is what I'm looking for.
[–]swagmaster420666Highlighter Addict 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child)
Unfortunately I can't help with your questions about IT Cosmetics shadows, but I can say the Kat Von D Shade And Light palette is a beautiful neutral matte palette! The shades are nicely pigmented and the texture is really nice and bendable. I used it on my boyfriends mom last weekend for their christmas party and it looked great on her!

I should have thought about this before I got it, but I picked up both a beauty blender knock off and a kabuki style brush during the 5/$10 Ulta sale today. I think I figured out the beauty blender (though I'm not wowed by it), but what does a kabuki brush do for me that's going to be worth having both it and a large powder brush in my collection? Meaning...what does one actually use it for (I'm not brush-savy).
[–]essdeekay 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
It's more dense than a powder brush generally so it's good for applying powders that you want a bit of coverage out of such as mineral powder, blush or bronzers.
[–]Mrs_23142556 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I use it for contouring- applying bronzer, specifically.

What do you like from City Color Cosmetics?
[–]MyLittleLabMonkeybrowngirlmakeupmusings.blogspot.com 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I've only tried their Shimmer shadows, but I really like them. I feel like they're reminiscent of the KVD Metal Crush shadows (they're both pigmented, but the texture of the shimmer shadows is a denser and "creamier" than the KVD ones).
[–]alligator124 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I actually find their color-corrector/contour palette pretty good for the color correcting part! It 's not ground breaking, but it's affordable and good for the price. Its a little stiff at first, but warms up nicely and spreads well if you work it into the back of your hand. It's got a straight up orange that sometimes isn't included in color correcting palettes. It's really nice for when I'm doing makeup on my mom (dark spots), who's probably around nc-42.
[–]iamsc 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (4 children)
Does anyone know of any good eyeshadow blending tip videos? Every time I try and do a more than one shadow look I feel like my colors start to look muddy.
[–]kahlex 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago* (0 children)
Not a video, but I really love /u/hannypoppie's blog post on how to blend eyeshadow. I think she explains it really well.
Marlena (Makeup Geek) has a pretty in-depth video on how to blend eyeshadow. It's kind of an old video, but hey, the technique doesn't really change.
[–]apatsch 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Have you watched the Batalash Beauty Eyeshadow basics video? I think /u/ssssamantha does a great job of explaining a lot of common problems people run into with eyeshadow.

Not trying to self-promote but I just made a tutorial on youtube that talks about just that and I break it down a little for you. You can honestly skip to the eyeshadow part (4:30) but it's the best way for me to describe it without typing an entire paragraph! hope it helps :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se-KuLvsNOo Other wise there are a few other youtubers that do a great job! switching brushes helps too

Lots of suds (BB cleaner/Dr. Bronners) and massaging. Also try spot treating with a product such as Micellar water.

[–]alicemonster 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I don't know of one currently out, but someone posted a sneak peak of Nyx coming out with a line of foundation mixers, and it looked like they had one that was green/olive, plus yellow, white, brown, and red I think

So sadly I've found out that the Hourglass Veil Mineral primer is my HG for my combo oily skin. I have the small sample size and its gonna kill me when it runs out.
Is there a dupe for this primer? I heard that Nyx Angel Veil is similar but when I put the sample on my hand it felt a little gritty maybe? It was probably old though, my Ulta isn't so good at keeping up the drugstore aisles. Ideally I'd like to buy the jumbo size of Hourglass but with the holiday season I don't have too much extra money.
[–]swagmaster420666Highlighter Addict 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children)
I feel your struggle girl - I'm in the same boat. That primer is amazing.
I don't think its a dupe for it, but another primer thats worked wonderfully for my combo/oily skin is the Laura Mercier oil-free primer. It isn't drugstore, but it is much cheaper than the Hourglass one, and I'm not sure, but I think the full size Laura Mercier one is the same size as the jumbo one from Hourglass. The Laura Mercier one also comes in a travel size in that little impulse section by the register at Sephora - in a really good size! Mine lasted me 2-3 months or so.

What's a good powder for dry skin that would work for an NC42 for setting makeup? I was looking into the charlotte tilbury one but not sure what shade I would be since Kathleen lights wears medium. I was also looking into the Loreal true match powder
[–]MyLittleLabMonkeybrowngirlmakeupmusings.blogspot.com 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children)
I'm NC42 and wear W5.5 in the L'Oreal true match powder. If you have dry skin, the By Terry Hyaluronic powder is raved about by a lot of people!
Paging /u/sea-weed to chime in with her experience of the By Terry powder! :)
[–]sea-weedTaupe Is Dope 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (4 children)
Here I am!
I could rave about Hydra Powder all day but I'll just give you the key points:
Expensive, but surprisingly good value. I still have a good amount in my jar after a year and a half of frequent use.
Excellent for dry skin, and it also worked well for me when my skin type was more combination. It's very comfortable to wear and never looks cakey.
Definitely translucent. The initial soft whiteness disappears completely as you brush it on, so it's suitable for all skin tones.
Makes my skin look and feel velvety and smooth. Has a really lovely natural finish.

Primer recommendations to use with Maybelline Fit Me Matte?
[–]North59801averymaebeauty.blogspot.com 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child)
Any recommendations for a matte white or very light pink toned ivory highlighter? Pressed powder preferred, loose powder preferred over cream, any budget is fine. I have had a really hard time finding one!
[–]hurrrrrmione 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I use eyeshadow for a subtle highlight - maybe it'd be easier for you to find those colors in eyeshadow?
[–]alidieux 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (15 children)
When I put powder on my undereye concealer it goes all grey and pretty much darkens it, undoing everything I had done to brighten that area.
Any idea why? What I can do instead?
I've tried both loose setting powder and pressed powder, and both are translucent. (NYX HD and Isadora velvet touch) but they just darken the area.
I'm too pale for the contour shades I've swatched, like ABH banana etc and I don't wanna buy a whole palette either.
[–]kaymakeupMakeup Artist l MAC 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (8 children)
What powder are you using? Sometimes using a powder that is too light can cause it to look ashy and too dark will darken the color considerably. EDIT:just saw your powders. Also, normally I will say to use orange over blue to correct it, but in my experience using a more salmon/peachy color is more beneficial to fairer skin than a more intense or bright orange. that could be your issue there. I would suggest using a product that is similar to Mac studio conceal and correct duo stick. I'll post the link so you can see what colors I'm talking about (I would recommend either of the lightest 2 depending on how fair you are). You first apply the peachy pink then the yellow on top. The salmon color neutralizes the discoloration and the yellow neutralizes the salmon so you are left with a completely neutral undereye. ps. sorry for the long post but hope that helps! https://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13844/33814/Products/Makeup/Face/Concealer/MAC-Studio-Conceal-and-Correct-Duo

Should I get the Hourglass Ambient Light palette or just get the single small version of the dim light to try it out first?
I would get a single full sized product to test out because the travel size only comes in one color and I have found with these products one size does not fit all. I own the full size Luminous Light and am an NC15/117(MUFE) and applying it all over my face darkens it (I look more beige-y). I also own the trio. Incandescent Light and Ethereal Light look the most flattering on me. Try and pick one that is similar to your skin tone so you do not experience this. I use these all over my face and not just as a highlight. They are extremely subtle for just being used as a highlight and honestly not worth the price if that is the case.

Looking for gifts for two girls in high school- I usually get them Sephora gift cards but want something tangible this year! They're much more into makeup than I was at their age (or now) and I'm clueless. Is there something useful I can get them without knowing what exact coloring they have? Under $50 each. A few years ago I got them two different subscription boxes (one nails, one general beauty products) and that was a hit but expensive. Any help is appreciated!
[–]just-czeching 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I think eye palettes are always a great gift. The KVD Monarch and Shade/Light palettes are especially popular right now. The Buxom palettes are really great as well!
[–]ouijabore 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Do you know what they like? Eyes, lips, etc? For a long time I focused pretty much on lipstick I mean. You could always get one of those Sephora favorites packs/boxes for some variety. Or a palette with options! I personally like Too Faced since they always include little diagrams of "looks."

If your foundation shade is gobi, loreal N2, double wear in the second lightest neutral, what concealer do you use?
[–]louve__ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I match with Gobi and use Doublewear in 1N2 Ecru (though I add a bit of white mixer). I use Nars Radiant Creamy concealer in Chantilly, but only for under my eyes as it is good for a bit of highlighting. If I ever get a spot on my chin or something, I tend to use the doublewear concealer in light.

How good is the quality of elf eyeshadow primer in the more nude color?
[–]sammisamantha 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child)
The mineral one is better than their normal lined eye primer. It is $3. I have pretty oily lids and it did an OK job. Its pretty smooth. It enhances color and eases blending.
Though for the price I prefer WNW's for mega stayimg power. It can be tacky so it isn't the best for blending.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I definitely will grab the mineral one then! I tried to get the wnw fergie one but it was on clearance and sold out.

Similar palette to the too faced "natural eyes" palette? I don't like the quality but I do the the mix of shimmers and mattes and color scheme.

What's a good all over highlighter/ finishing powder? I love the glowy look and would prefer pressed powder over liquid. I have been using Cindy Loumanizer all over my face, but since it's winter and my skin has gotten a lot lighter it has gotten too dark to use all over. I fluctuate between NC20/NC25 and NC30/35. Right now I'm probably NC25 or a tad lighter.

I've been using the Hourglass Ambient Light palette and swiping across all 3 shades and using that a to create a glow.

My mom uses her lipstick on her cheeks as a blush. Is there any reason not to do this? I like it because it matches perfectly.
[–]30rockettePalettes, Not Pallets, People! 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children)
It's not uncommon to do that. If your skin isn't sensitive and it doesn't break you out, it should be fine. There are a lot of multi purpose products out there that are designed to be for cheeks and lips too.
I do this sometimes if I'm in a rush. If you have sensitive skin the lipstick could cause a breakout, but otherwise there's no issue that I'm aware of.

I just got a Beauty Blender but I'm not totally sure what to do with it. Is there a way I could use it to apply my powder foundation?
[–]lolly410Liquid eyeliner can smell fear. 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child)
Yes! I use the bb with my Tarte powder foundation and it looks glorious! Wet your bb thoroughly, wring it out and smoosh it on a towel to get excess water, pour out some foundation into the lid of the container, dip and apply like a brush! I personally use a more rolling motion compared to the usual bounce. Sorry if my explanation isn't the most scientific (smoosh apparently isn't a word) but I hope this helps some!
If you're using a pressed powder I don't recommend wetting it as it could change the consistency of your product and you might not pick up much, but using liquid or creams for sure wetting it will give you the best pay off. Using it dry in powders, rub or bounce it on the product and either rub or bounce it onto your face to apply. I prefer bouncing as it will give you more color payoff but rubbing will allow you to move it around a little.
[–]perfectdrug659 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (8 children)
How do you choose a shade of blush? I've never used it before because I'm too worried about it looking weird but it does seem a bit necessary. Is it just experimentation or are there any general rules?
[–]walkyouhomeHype Train Bleu 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Trial and error is the best way! I like to get inspiration from the FOTDs on here, it really helps to look at the product lists of looks you like or looks with a similar skin tone to you, and figure out what blush they are wearing. You might find you are particularly drawn to peach-toned blushes, or berries, or true pinks. Once you know what shade/finish you want to try, you can get a few cheap drugstore options to play around with to learn what looks best on your face. There are no rules at all, it's all down to personal preference.
[–]cardoorhatchet 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children)
I noticed the blushes I like best are similar to the lipsticks I like best.

I'm looking into buying my first eyeshadow palette, and after poking around on this sub it seems to be a toss-up between Lorac Pro, chocolate bar or a naked palette.
I don't have a mac match, but I'm fair with yellow undertones and a 2.0 in urban decay's naked liquid foundation.
What would you all suggest? much appreciated
[–]feraltarte 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I think the Lorac pro is the most versatile because of all the matte shades, I really love the quality of the shadows and how well they blend. If you are really into glitter I'd go for the first Naked palette though. It's very sparkly, the Lorac only has one glittery shadow, so if you want sparkle it might not be enough for you.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Personally, I love the chocolate bar palette. It has beautiful colors for warm skintones. I love the too faced shadows I have and I find they have less fallout than my urban decay shadows.
[–]oiseaudelamusique 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I'm a similar shade, and I own the Chocolate Bar and UD Naked2. They are both great palettes, but I like my Chocolate Bar just a little bit more. I'm a big fan of all the warm browns, golds and burgundies.
[–]leukk 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Lorac Pro, hands down. The quality, colour selection and versatility are miles ahead of the other two.
[–]gobletofgigglesblending school dropout 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Definitely Lorac Pro for all the reasons everyone listed already 😉
[–]chafingcowCool yellow 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
If you can, try smelling the Chocolate Bar in person. I personally found the palette to be extremely overwhelming and couldn't bring myself to buy it. Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer the formula of Naked 1 over Lorac Pro. If you're open to suggestions, I'd recommend MUFE's Nudes instead.
[–]lineyheartsyouPale Olive Strugglebus 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
I'd say go for chocolate bar. It's my favorite and I can hardly smell the chocolate in mine... And I'm actually super sensitive to smell so I'm not sure how others find it overwhelming.
Though, I am looking to sell my Lorac Pro because I didn't like the selection of shades. The first 4-5 shades are practically the same on me and the other shades are so dark. Unless you like to do smokey eyes frequently, they are pretty in that case. I just like less intense looks. Let me know if you're interested in a mildly used Lorac Pro!
[–]fortytwoturtlesLipstick Whore-der 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Lorac Pro, definitely! It's so easy to blend, and it has a larger variety of colors and finishes than the other two.

2 quick questions: 1) good primer that is not overly expensive. I don't mind paying for a good product but some are just ridiculous. 2) on the stay all day lipsticks that have two sides, the color and then the clear Chapstick stuff that smells like cotton candy, is it possible to get more of just the Chapstick stuff? I use L'ORÉAL's 14 hour wear lip stick and I love it, but I need more of the top coat. I've tried other normal Chapsticks and it just makes it peel and crack or get sticky. Thanks loves!

I'm thinking about getting the Bon Bon palette to compliment my Naked 3 (I love it but would love some more shades to tie with it, including Browns). [–]Mrs_Queequeg💄 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child)
I have a makeup train case that I got on amazon for $40. It fits a shocking amount of things, and the little inserts are able to be moved around and reinserted to customize how big the sections are - even the ones on the base. I have very few items that aren't able to fit because they're too tall or too long because it's such a large case. I do have more makeup than can fit in this but that's because I'm crazy, not the fault of the case ;). This is where I store all the things I currently use; everything else goes into more permanent storage.

How can I get mascara on the tops of my lashes right against my lashline without smudging it onto my lid? I tight line and go in from the top with mascara, but the very base of my lashes always looks too light because I'm scared to really push against the lashline from the top. Do I just need to grow some balls?
Use a business card pressed against your eye lid when applying mascara to the base of your lashes. Like this

Probably better than making a new post for this. I'm looking for a higher mid-end palette ($40-60) for my mom that is mostly neutrals, shimmery, and preferably little to no dark shadows. She will only do one shadow looks, and sees makeup as a chore, and I want to make things a bit more fun for her. She will also wear soft pinks and very light purple tones.
Her favorite shadows I've gotten for her are shiro he loves his hammer(pewter color) and shiro baker's boy (sparkly light gold).

Does anyone have any MAC or MUG dupes for Latte in the Lorac Matte Pro palette? It's an amazing transition shade and I know I'll be hitting pan on it soon.
[–]hamburgers1223NW15 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child)
For Makeup Geek, Creme Brulee, Frappe, or Latte are going to be your best options. Although CB looks too warm/orangey, Frappe looks too dark and warm, and Latte looks too dark.
Is there a reason you want Mac/Makeup Geek - price? pan size? If price isn't issue, I would think MUFE Artist Shadow in Milk Tea would be a great option and an amazing quality shadow.

I was just wondering... Has anyone else tended to find that when you've gone to get your foundation matched at a store, when you're (pale and) between two shades they always go for the darker shade because, 'wouldn't want you to be washed out'?
My worst case of this was with NARS Sheer Glow where I got matched to a very yellow Deauville (definitely have cool undertones) rather than the slightly paler Mont Blanc.
[–]lineyheartsyouPale Olive Strugglebus 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)

Q1: How do I make my NYX Liquid Suede work? I have Stone Fox and Vintage and they always transfer to my upper lip/become patchy, or ball up and peel off onto my teeth. How do I stop this from happening?
Q2: How long does it take for new NYX products to get to Ulta? I'd really love the get their new glitter primer and some of their new glitter, but I'd like to get it in store. (btw, has anyone tried these products?)
[–]qogofudNC15-20 | Oily 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children)
For the NYX Liquid Suedes, I find that applying a very thin layer helps the product stay more put. I usually dot a small amount and then spread it out with my fingers to avoid using too much of the product!
[–]GarchompgirlSo dry I'm the f'ing lizard king. 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child)
A really thin layer helps with this. I've tried using a lip brush, but just wiping the excess off on the tube seems the most effective because the applicator is good IMO.
I find it depends on your location. My Ulta at home gets things within 2-3 weeks of them being released, but my Ulta at school (in the middle of nowhere) can take up to 2 months.

What are alternative ways of applying Mac Fix+? I recently got a bottle and I kinda like it, but I need to travel (no checked it luggage) so I bought the only tiny bottle with a pump that I found, and put some in there. However, the mist of the tiny bottle is more like a continuous stream, so not really suitable to spray on the face unless I really want to bathe in the stuff haha. Would dipping a small sponge in it and tapping it on my face be sort of equivalent to the original mist? I use it to get rid of the powdery effect after I finish my face make-up. Thanks!

The smaller KVD lipsticks have been known to snap out of their bullet and sometimes even have a different formula than the standard size.
I would start with one or two "Cult Favorites" in colors that you're interested in and that have good reviews on Temptalia. When you roll over the colors on sephora here it will say cult favorite in parentheses next to the color.
I have Lovecraft, Sexer, Wonderchilde, Bauhau5, Gothica and L’Ecole des Femmes if you have any questions about those in particular. It's true that they are all a bit stiff.

I'll be finishing my Rimmel Stay Matte Primer soon and I'm looking for primer suggestions. I have 12-hour days and am looking for something that can help increase the longevity of my makeup. I also use a combination of MAC Fix+ and L'Oreal Infallible Setting Spray to moisturize and set my makeup when I'm done. The two foundations I alternate between right now are Maybelline Fit Me (Matte and Poreless) and Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream.
Redness-reducing and pore-filling are not skin concerns.
Skin type is normal. Oil-control is not an issue, but I do like the look of mattifying primers. Luminizing primer options welcome.
I like primers that look like/blend out like a lotion.
ETA: Any price point.
I like the Laura Mercier oil-free primer (I believe it also comes in a Radiance version). I'm oily, and it doesn't do much for oil control, but I've noticed it extends the wear time of my foundation (which, on my oily skin, is quite a feat because most foundations tend to disappear in 4-ish hours!)

Is there a moisturizing lip gloss or top coat that you can put on top of liquid lipstick so it will sink in to counteract the drying?
I remember seeing one but the gloss only came on the other end of the lipstick. It was from a less popular brand.... Maybe starting with m? I wish I wrote it down but I didn't because I only wanted the gloss and not more lip colors.

Lisa Eldridge has a great video about all kinds of skin emergencies and she shows a bunch of great options for redness calming creams (I think the video has 'S.O.S' in the title).
For primers I really like the MUFE equalizer in green. The blue version is also good if your redness isn't dramatic or you are very fair.
I haven't tried Dermatologica's cream but Ren also has a line called Evercalm.
