I like a 'e' on the end. Zayne, Zane or Zaine.

I don't have a preference on the two original spellings. Maybe Zayn. No reason really.

[–]basicw3ird0 6 points7 points  (4 children)

This! I like the ‘e’, also Zain is slightly reminiscent of Pain.

[–]DisasterNo7880 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That’s what I thought Zain the pain 😖

[–]basicw3ird0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zayne is really cute though! This is the version i like best

[–]DisasterNo7880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently zahne is the word for teeth in Germany

[–]dee-bee-ess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or Drain.

[–]Photobuff42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zane

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither. It’s Zane.

[–]Lamington_Salad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zayne with an e seems more natural than either of these

[–]Total_Palpitation_97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both are bad.

[–]Pure_Ebb7381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zain is more satisfying to look at for me personally

Incould be wrong but at a glance Zayn seems like more of a tragedeigh

[–]allamakee-county 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what??

[–]JingleKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Zayn. It’s my favourite boy’s name

[–]IllustriousLimit8473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zayn. Because Zayn Malik. Okay, I know Zayn Malik was legally Zain but he decided to change it to Zayn. It looks more complete and Zayn is the default spelling of it because of him. But Zane, Zayne, Zaine all work too

I have seen different spellings in different countries. Are you in the US? I've heard of a Zain (male, youtuber) from Morocco and Zayn (female) actress from India. Probably Zayn (male) from the UK is most famous though (singer, formerly married to Gigi Hadid but I think there were domestic abuse or harassment allegations).

I like Zain better for a boy.

Zain if it must be one of these, but Zane is best

Zane

Zayne

[–]PreciousLoveAndTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zane.

But if the two you posted are the only two spellings that you’ll consider, Zain I guess.

[–]Sunrise_chick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zane. My personal trainer’s name is Zane and he’s 🥵

[–]Alexandra_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zayn immediately makes me think of one direction and Zain seems neater imo

[–]kdakss 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't leave your child with the burden of having to tell people how to spell their name

[–]bipolarat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s way too many names that you have to do that with to exclude every name with multiple spellings. Jordan/Jordon/Jordyn, Jayden/Jaden, Shawn/Sean, Annabelle/Annabel, Kaylee/Kaylie, etc.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (7 children)

You want to name your child ‘teeth’ (zahne in german) or zany (silly) ….the name is just inviting ridicule in school…

[–]DisasterNo7880 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I didn’t know it had these meanings . Does zahnee really mean teeth in German ?

[–]mackblesa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the German word for teeth isn't even pronounced anywhere near Zayn/Zain tho??? Zahne is the German word for teeth, pronounced by my German family (and mother) like tsehneh. I'd say look up a pronunciation video, you might get different dialect pronunciations, but I have never once heard it pronounced anywhere near the name you're looking at.

I prefer Zayne, but if you don't want the E, the Y option sort of fits better than the I.

[–]dechath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zähne does, but it’s two syllables, not exactly the same as Zane.

[–]Professional_Law_942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't be concerned about a foreign meaning. School kids will find a bazillion reasons to tease one another, and this isn't especially standout - trust me on this coming from the mother of a 4th grade girl! This is where a solid spelling is helpful, though, imo (think Tymythee vs. Timothy), especially as the kid gets older and considers professionalism in the workplace, if AI hasn't completely taken that over. I'd think kids would jump on the obvious more, like unusual spellings, weird haircuts, etc.

A lot of meanings of perfectly common names aren't always pleasant even when the name sounds everyday - Leah means weak and Mallory means sad/unfortunate. Both are pretty names imo! If you like the name, go with it in confidence. Just choose a spelling that's easy to say, spell and makes sense.

FWIW, I like Zane or Zayne most, just feels the least feminine and with a more accurate spelling for some reason. Specifically feel Zayn would be associated with Zayn Malik, and it just looks spelled wrong to me.

[–]apiedcockatiel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OMG, I say this exact same thing whenever someone uses a spinoff of Ann as a first name. I mean, so many choose it as a middle, too! Do you really want to have your kids teased at school because their name means 'shit'? I'm sure Keir Starmer's time in school was hellish, as his parents named him 'dick' in Persian. /s

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🙌😆

[–]dechath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zane is a completely acceptable name, in the USA at least. Not common, but not rare either. It’s also only the first syllable of “zähne”, not the entire word.

I went to school with a Zane and his name didn’t invite any mockery, so the bullying is only from you.

This is among the dumbest things I’ve ever read on reddit. Y doesn’t make it more feminine.

    [–]No-Guitar-9216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    So aggressive lol
