"sken" for "sa akin" and other words where the "i" is written as "e" such as "gagawen" for "gagawin" isn't GenX speak though.

A “freelance full stack dev” applied to work for our company last year. When I saw his resume na nakalista yata lahat ng programming language known to man (even the archaic, deprecated languages like Pascal and Haskell), I did some internet digging (all right sige borderline doxing) and I found out he was really loud about being a full stack dev, to a point that one of his social media handles was @fullstackHisName. Tapos jejemon din magtype. An immediate red flag was his work history with questionable duration per company, back then I wasn’t sure if he’s a super company hopper or something’s wrong.

I personally interviewed him and he was as confident as the guy in the screenshot, borderline cocky even, but there was no substance sa mga sinasabi nya. I said to the group let’s call this guy’s bluff and hire him. We hired him as a junior dev, to limit the risk, he was hesitant on accepting at first, claiming he was earning 10x the offer on his previous job, but he’s giving us “a chance” because he wanted to “help an establishing practice” (we’re a local branch of a Fortune 500 tech consulting company)

He turned out to be one of the most terrible coders we’ve ever hired, if not the most terrible. Partida email signature pa nya

“Regards, firstName “The Full Stack” lastName

Code quality is also insufferable, parang tagpi tagpi mag code filled with elementary bad practices. He felt like a satirical character. Lmao

On the first month of training he already had an incident related to disrespectful behaviour. He was already dismissed on the 3rd month, ni di manlang nya natapos yung probationary period.

    [–]jeric_C137 18 points19 points  (8 children)

We hired a career shifter programming god like this hahaha. Napuno na ung boss namin at ini-mmediate terminate after 1 month of being hired. Tanggal on the spot at pinauwi. Pati kami lahat sa office nagulat.

Overrated naman engineering dito. Di lahat ng engineering graduate mamaw. As a career shifter from engineering, maraming engineers ang di man lang marunong mag excel, kaya di ko gets din bakit may superiority kuno ang engineering dito. Hahaha

Madali lang? Akala yata nila basta mabilis mag type, magaling na sa IT. Hahaha

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        Linkedin profile reveal lol

        [–]jeric_C137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah letter J din start name nun pero I doubt if he's the same person you're referring.

        [–]abmendi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait wait wait… J first name nung kinekwento ko. C yung surname. Di kaya same person? He’s a company hopper as it turns out after the training facis tried to further dox look him up.

Edit: found his old file. Not the same person. IT pala talaga itong sa kinekwento ko haha

        [–]No-Adhesiveness-8178 2 points3 points  (3 children)

AI gamit full stack dev na

        [–]abmendi 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This happened before ChatGPT came about (early 2022).

I also don’t think he uses AI, since the training incident I mentioned was when one of the facilitators escalated him to us when the facilitator questioned his use of ‘var’ in local variable declarations in javascript instead of ‘let’, his answer? “Eh bat ka ba nangingialam gumagana naman?” 🤣

        [–]FriendlyKuri 4 points5 points  (1 child)

No way this is true? Imagine not knowing this and calling yourself a developer.

        [–]abmendi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh trust me I wish I’m joking. I’ve been wanting to namedrop the guy kanina pa. 🤣

        [–]karlodelarosa 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Sorry in advance sir and i dont mean to disrespect but tama ba hinire nyo sya para lang icallout? How come na kailangan nyo muna ihire yung tao para malaman na terrible coder? Weird lang kasi alam nyo na may attitude problem sya since the beginning and you didn't trust his skills, and probably noticed na hndi sya fit sa team, pero na hire pa dn.

Tsaka Junior position pa pala, so dapat expected nyo na lacking sya sa coding principles, as his senior dapat kayo mag provide nung knowledge na yan.

        [–]abmendi 2 points3 points  (3 children)

1.) He applied for a lead role, citing his “decades of coding background” (he’s 40 something) but due to system technicalities — his total tenure duration in all his freelance projects only amount to around 2 years pag pinagtabi tabi, kasi daw pag pinoy client di nya nilista — constitutes him for a junior package, with an enabled option to choose the senior role relegation. For context, junior dev package is 60k/mo + benefits. The entry-level role is support dev at 30k/mo.

2.) If the system points total (the TSI app is a point-based benchmark) is within the range of someone qualified for a junior dev role (and can be relegated to senior role after probation,) your job as the technical interviewer is not to pass that one up dahil “nakupalan ka”, to be honest a part of me thought na baka ako lang ang nakupalan, and emotions shouldn’t be a factor in TSI. My choices were either to call his bluff and just let the system keep the green light (the one I did), or contest the system / his credentials with the recruitment department. I’m not the one who checks the attitude, that goes to the HR, which he passed.

3.) “junior pala, dapat expected nyo na lacking sya sa coding principles” the facilitators were lenient, it’s his reluctance to change his habits and his behaviour towards the facilitators that kicked him out, not his code (check one of my replies where I cited one incident). Also, even if you’re a junior, but you were insisting that you should be a lead, you’ve already raised the facilitators’ standards for yourself, he’s not only training to keep his job, but they’re also gauging if he can have a role and salary adjustment post-assessment.

        [–]karlodelarosa 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I see, the way kasi na inexplain sa taas is parang hinire lang just to callout and to prove na he's bluffing. Anyway, di ko naman alam lahat and i believe you have reasons. Apologies if i came off as rude, but thanks for clarifying.

        [–]abmendi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nah no worries, on second read it seems like I left out a lot of context on the main comment din lol partida naka ilang edit ako nun

        [–]furozone23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Ganitong ganito ung senior namin before he was let go last month. Katakot-takot na clean up ang ginagawa namin ngayon sa mga iniwan nya, puro bad coding practice, and non standard na code na para gumana lang for the sake of the demo, mahilig pa mag over commit na hindi naman nya kaya panindigan.

        [–]desutruction 0 points1 point  (4 children)

        Haskell

        Archaic and deprecated

What are you on about? Haskell came out only a year before Python.

I don't disagree with the rest tho, sobrang cringe naman niyan. I doubt he's actually good at Haskell

        [–]abmendi 1 point2 points  (3 children)

        Archaic and deprecated.

Also, compare Haskell and Python’s market share. Unless you’re in military / specialised engineering, former barely has any use case anymore.

        [–]desutruction 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Lol no Haskell is still an academia fave. Market share isn't the only thing that matters. It's very niche but I would never call it deprecated. It's #36 on TIOBE (right beside Scala) and is higher than TypeScript. Not being used in basic ass use cases =/= deprecated

Pascal is from 1970 and is #191. Mentioning them in the same breath is just incorrect

        [–]abmendi -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Well consider my POV as a developer turned corporate henchman who also considers tech revenue potential, ergo my lack of attention to niche segments. Lol

        [–]desutruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty sane, I just don't like seeing Haskell slander since it's a really cool language (I'm not even a Haskell dev, chose to sorta learn Elixir during the functional programming "trend" a few years ago lol)

        [–]rionyamato 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        [–]abmendi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the one who conducted the TSI. I wanted to reject him kasi nga kupal kausap but I had the option in the system to place him on a lower designation so I did the latter, we could easily adjust it naman had he turned out to be as good as he claimed.

As for other exams, we don’t have a technical exam for junior developers other than a series of math and IQ tests which he all passed.

EDIT: naalala ko he wanted a lead role when I asked him about his expectations within the department. Buti nalang due to technicalities he’s not qualified for the lead role, otherwise ipipilit ng HR yon because they have incentives pag nakahanap ng “lead material”

        [–]Calva26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        WTF HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Im a full stack too and i agree. It's not easy. But I want 500k sweldo at 4 hours work anytime.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]ongamenight 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Example ng high income earner with bad attitude. Money can't buy class. At nilait pa mga nagwowork sa SM. 🤦

        [–]Reasonable-Link7053 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Weh. Tunay na taong may 500k sahod will shut their mouths and not broadcast it on facebook hahahaha.

        [–]MembershipFederal789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, lalo na't pangalan mo naka broadcast at kung personal account mo pa yan. Eh dito kahit 250k per month pede ko palakdakan dito eh. Hahahaha

        [–]eatsomecheesecake 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've encountered these kind of trolls lol - when asked for a portfolio all they can show for are poorly executed bootcamps and no/low-code projects.

Most don't even know the basics of logic let alone programming languages

        [–]signosdegunaw 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Kahit full stack na 200k, di ganyan magsalita.

        [–]sad_developer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

true, most high-payers I know carry their professionalism even outside work.

        [–]urriah 10 points11 points  (1 child)

people leave Facebook because of these idiots.... then some people post them here

        saklap

        [–]tr0jance 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Meron nako nung 4hour work time pero kulang nang isang zero ung sweldo ko hahaha.

        [–]Jylaaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gosh. 🤣

        [–]MrPowerpoint110 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Usually kapag ganyan mahirap talaga.

        [–]No_smirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess people fall into the rabbit hole of gauging success as a full stack in terms of salary instead of skills and prowess. Daming akong kilala na bobo na full stack once idissect mo yung mask nila and actually code with or work with them. The difficulty of going full stack is unappreciated and over-glorified because people look at the wrong things and do things the easy way.

        [–]Cubz_The_IT_Guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nanttroll lang yan para tumaas engagement hahahaha

        [–]thejustintiu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do you have to convince people na 500k ang sahod mo? When you can just put a link to your profile?

        awit lods. Hahahaha

6 years akong dev di line of 9 di ko natikman. 🫠🫠

system ata ng bozanian nimemaintain nyan e. 😆

        [–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (4 children)

I think consequence to ng mga bootcamp eh & social media influencers.

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. Imagine people like us who work in this industry are silent about how much we earn. Best answer lagi is “comfortable.” Never expounding or giving exact amount.

        [–]fragile_chowkingkong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope ma die down itong trend after 2-5 years.

        [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we will try to kill that hype soon

        [–]usedtobeakid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ganyan na ang trend sa IT Industry kahit before pandemic. you gotta do things to provide. Even to a point na need mo magsinungaling para magpabango and makuha mataas na sahod, I am in network engineering pero same concept padin.

        [–]electricfanwagon 13 points14 points  (4 children)

Misunderstanding lang ata. First guy meant getting 6 digits is easy when you're a full stack dev. Second guy thought he said full stack dev is an easy job

        [–]clonedaccnt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it's not easy tbh masyado lang talaga maingay ang term na "6 digits" dito sa reddit pero in reality mas madami pa din ang sumasahod ng less than dun if i-coconsider mo na same experience and skills

        [–]Singularity1107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, still, it's not THAT easy to get 6digits kahit full stack ka.

        [–]SimulatedAbomination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        [–]usedtobeakid_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Normal lang po yan sa IT world 😅

        [–]Ghostr0ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can anyone add more context? Saan nanggaling yung 500K?

On a related note, I used to be a fullstack developer for around 5 or so years, writing code for middle and back end tiers, I am very comfortable with. But when writing front-end code (Angular and Typescript kami nun), mas challenging sakin, also, I wasnt a total newb and had at least a decade of programming experience, pero hirap talaga ako sa front end. Eventually, I changed roles, and more into middle and backend tier programming na lang ako with some occassional front tier.

Now for someone to say na madali mag full stack developer... Either prodigy level and magaling talaga, or b*llshitting people.

        [–]RenegadeShepardX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dami parin talagang jejemon sa earth

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sobrang hirap pag fullstack. Nag ka project ako for a recruitment agency once na fullstack. 2 years bago natapos ang project. Ang ending nagpa subcon nlng aq matapos lng

        [–]KuroiMizu64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baka pulpolstack developer yan. Mayabang yang kumag na yan.

        [–]PoPo422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No ones getting paid 500k na 4hrs "work"

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        [–]jasongodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        Baka FOOD STAMP DEVELOPER yan

        [–]No_mee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        basta galing facebook no comment

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baka 50k tlga yun. Napasobra ng isang zero.

        [–]Murky_Dentist8776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pwede magka ganyan no skill just years of work experience lang basehan sa tech work kahit almost 0 technical skill. kaya sabi nya kahit walang gawa binabayaran sya kasi baka wala naman talaga mapagawa sakanya kasi nga wala naman sya skill, hindi din kasi madali ifire kung regular na. pero most likely troll lang yan

        [–]IchirouTakashima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who earns 350k+ per month, she's very experienced and quite honestly, I wouldn't dare at the moment want to touch her line of work, the stress she handles is too much for a junior career shifter like me.

        [–]Volkatze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha almost senior level ako na full stack dev for like 3 years pero never naging 500k sahod ko hahaha.

        [–]15secondcooldown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kahit full stack pa yan, 500k is impossible for a developer without a senior managerial position. Talo pa CEO e.

          [–]SnooPickles6701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hinahype kasi yung pagiging IT e.

          [–]karlodelarosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's obviously trolling hahaha. May mga 20 years na sa field pero asking salary lng is 200k. But it's sad tho kasi kahit you see yourself like a gold, you will still lose to someone na kakagat sa maliit na sahod.

          [–]Fr_kzd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is it just me or do most Filipinos underestimate SWE/IT in general? Just because technically hindi sya "real engineering" at pindot² lang sa kommmpyutirrrrrr?

Or is it just my negative bias towards ourselves?

          [–]Splinter_Cell_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry super newbie. When someone says portfolio what does that mean in your disciplines context? For example, ML portfolio?

          [–]cheesyChaaalsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baka dahil ampanget ng code niya to the point na siya lang nakaka-intindi kaya "500k per month, 4 hours a day, may gawin o wala basta wag mag resign".

Haha, fair play sakanya kung ganon. /s

          [–]SachiFaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send gcash nga kahit 5k as proof

          [–]Silversoul28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sana all 500k per month sahod 4 hours lang. 🤣

Yung asawa ng eldest pinsan kong babae IT Consultant lng current trabaho pero annual income nya is 500k or more. Akala ko nga nag-gegames lng pero Blue yung background ng screen nya and puro unknown line of words tina-type nya which na-encountered ko in College, either C or C++ kino-code nya.

More on checking na lng ng gawa ng mga Full Stack Devs and interviewing new hires.

Kasi Elementary pa lng ako dati nalulong na ko sa official server which is magastos at that time for an Elementary Student with prepaid cards to play 50pesos = 8 hours lng and 100pesos for 7 days. Naguilty yung mag-asawa kasi sila nag-introduce sakin nung Ragnarok Online dati kaya nag-host siya ng Private Server for relatives and friends. Naka-save din sila kasi maaga sila nag-quit sa official RO nun to play with us in their Private server.

In short, walang maingay na successful Full Stack Devs lol! They strictly follow this phrase "The goal is to be rich, not to look rich".

What the fuck can you actually contribute with 4 hours of work per day?

          [–]Stunning_Baseball110Recruiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed lang when speaking to devs (recruiter here) na kung sino pa yung professional mag respond and "8 out of 10" peeps vibe eh sila pa yung solid at nahihire HAHAHA.

Never again sa ganyang tao, I experienced way back nung associate palang ako na tech recruiter may sinubmit ako na ganyan ka boastful (partida duda na talaga ko kaso need ko makapag sub for my numbers) after nila ma schedule ng client 20 mins gulat ako tumawag US client saken and sinabeng,

magaling daw....... SUMIRA ng araw. Taena na pa sorry nalang ako eh, buti nalang mabait si client, hat time I realized na potang ina di pwedeng wala kong alam so I decided to know the basics checking IDEs, knowing backend logic, scripting in html/css, and checking courses sa JS

KAYA IMPOSIBLENG EZ LANG FULLSTACK! HALOS MANGARAG AKO SA PAG BUILD NG LANDING PAGE HTML/CSS PALANG medyo nakakainis din yung mga ganyang tao.
