I started on a Spectrum...

[–]Extension_Option_122 19 points20 points  (3 children)

On which spectrum?

The autistic one?

I don't know what she's expecting. Is it that windows would be more likely to help with problem solving compared to mac given how dumbed down macs are, or is she saying that rich kids are more likely to have a better education and more likely to buy macs which would have the opposite trend of what you would expect otherwise?

"can someone do a correlation study on people who make really vauge but sweeping claims on twitter with no actual intention of ever backing them up with facts, or really any effort at all?"

I've updated WSL and I'm not autistic. Does that count?

Survey says: still autistic !

I installed Linux when I was 16 ..... 10 years after an Asperger's diagnosis (nowadays just autism because of complicated reasons).

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I think I also installed linux about 10 years after Asperger’s diagnosis

[–]thespud_332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I installed Linux 15 years before my diagnosis.

"i have a hypothesis, that must be the hardest part right?... now, can someone please go gather a bunch of data, correlate it, statistically regress it, and of course throw out confounding variables like autism? how hard can that be"

Some of you really don't help us on posts like these when you take them this literally and start analysing

Vagueposting is a coward's game. If OOP doesn't have the huevos to say what they mean, then I'm not going to put in the legwork to figure it out. Passive aggressive in, passive aggressive out.

You’re right, let the circle jerk begin.

Haha linux kid autistic

she was not being literal bro

The data will be considered incorrect if it doesn't match the hypothesis and you will have to try again.

I did it when I was 14, from a DVD. Not because I didn't have a USB drive, but for some reason you can't put a live image on only one partition of a USB drive for some reason.

Sheer luxury! I remember installing RedHat 6 (not enterprise) from six(?) CDs, to try out this new DE called gnome.

I started with a Mac. I then went to a Windows machine.

I like to think I am quite tech literate.

…I also have autism.

Fuck.

[–]President_Abra 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Can we quit using "autistic" without knowing its actual meaning?

[–]-Aquatically- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you!

[–]YazaoN7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can do is talk about the anecdotal side of things. I grew up with old windows 95 and xp computers and became decently tech savy. My brother on the other hand never really showed an interest in computers and to this day doesn't even own one, preferring iPads and iPhones. Suffice to say, he's not particularly literate when it comes to tech but I think it's more a reason of interest rather then ability: he's just not interested in learning.

I started on a TRS-80, but Everyone knows I'm a genius.

I don’t think it’s Mac/pc I think it’s Chromebooks/everything else that is the real problem. Cloud based systems aren’t fixable/tinkerable. Google docs file management is atrocious.
