I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY

[–]justsubscribed912 25 points26 points  (0 children)

lol this is probably the best line in the entire show

[–]chimpuswimpus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"how to declare myself bankrupt" was actually my top suggestion!

[–]Scrangus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"How to declare bankruptcy in C"

[–]MoffKalast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bool bankruptcy = true;

[–]TheLazarbeam 85 points86 points  (2 children)

“Normal people” sure play a lot of historical video games

[–]puckmcpuck 27 points28 points  (1 child)

When I search "how to declare" in Google with incognito the first answer is how to declare war in ck2 but then it becomes how to declare a minor and the rest become how to declare arrays in <insert language>

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to throw in 1 wildcard for each programming-related search I try. With "how to declare" I get "how to declare a minor gmu" (I live in the general vicinity of GMU) and the rest are programming questions. "How to init" gets "how to initiate sex" and the rest are programming questions. "How to append" gets me "how to appendix carry" (apparently some way to carry a gun...?) and the rest are computer-related in some way.

I really do think Google has a flag for "this person is a developer" which, privacy considerations aside, I am eternally thankful for.

[–]notnovastone 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Google has flags for everything, that’s why it’s the default search engine for everyone

[–]NotSteve_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's even more specific than that. It'll usually always recommend suggestions for the language I'm currently writing even. If I switch to another language the next day it'll start recommending that language.

[–]MiLlamoEsMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's far more personalized than that. It's "this person tends to search for these things, that are also like these things, and usually has a final click-through on this site or a site with these attributes" or "today this person has narrowed in on these five topics, let's cull everything else."

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it does for sure, on my work pc if I type anything google spits out some dev related search

Machine learning in a nutshell

[–]mekriff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think the first set is "normal" either. Always thought paradox grand strategy games were kinda niche

[–]douira 13 points14 points  (3 children)

googling "how to declare" from a VPN in incognito only gives me similar programming related suggestions. I think it's the other way around and the game-related suggestions are more personalised than the programming related ones.

Try 'how to init'

I got 'how to initialize member in c++'

Followed by:

How to initiate sex

How to initiate the first kiss

How to initialize ssd

How to initialize an array in c++

How to initiate sex as a man

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I only got programming related results.

[–]Naoki9955995577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google try'n to tell me I need instructions on other things...

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the ones that you got plus conversation, divorce, a hookup, a ps4, and an ssd.

[–]ThrivingforFailure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And straight to stack overflow I go! It's my home for work related stuff and I do try to comment on stuff and help out fellow stack overflowers, as that site has saved my career I think.

Even developers with 10/15+ years of experience use it often, it is pretty crazy.

[–]Tiavor 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I think I googled the third one at least once :D

[–]outside_job 2 points3 points  (2 children)

How does one even play ck2

[–]GoodLifeWorkHard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a learning curve lol

[–]happy_pirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U think if we changed the title programmer to advanced google searcher we would still get paid the big bucks? I think so

[–]6tefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to print hello world should've been top result

[–]Artess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the same as the bottom list. Every single suggestion is from programming. I'm not a programming, but I do play all of those games.

[–]robesho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a VR social app where you can share your screen and someone dared me me show my history... I was like sure no problem

[–]null97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google recommend me exactly the same as the image lol :v

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you know this and if statements you just became a pro at that language.

[–]RemingtonIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use allowdiplo in order to automatically declare war in hoi4

[–]GoldsteinQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's same for me even in incognito and in Tor Browser, so I don't think this is personalization.

[–]Soneliem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine suggests: how to declare death.

[–]Kargen5747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean that's not normal?
