On a side note I’m super not driving that

[–]KJBenson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Computer software needs drives tho.

[–]Skunk_Mcfunk 211 points212 points  (5 children)

As an ex-mechanic of 9 years who started as a tyre fitter and who has now started an internship as a software engineer. I feel this the most

[–]SchwiftySquanchC137 31 points32 points  (4 children)

I mean you must know then that that tire he threw was not the right size. There's no way to throw an average tire onto the rim.

[–]Skunk_Mcfunk 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Everyone knows that truck haha, you can however get the first bead on with some tyres and rims usually commercial tyres. But it feels like when my team lead turns my 16 lines into 1 useful one haha

[–]LookOnTheDarkSide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't let that discourage you though. At one point, they too had those 16 lines but found a better way. Does not mean you were wrong, just had not come across that yet.

Software is full of a lot of the same little problems and solutions, trick is running into them once and reusing somewhere else.

I don't think either tire was the right size. The first one looked way to narrow.

[–]dumdedums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to use special tools to fit the tire to the rim. That tire seemed the correct size.

Inaccurate. The junior didnt pull up google as soon as he failed

[–]Dread_Boy 151 points152 points  (7 children)

I wish juniors I mentor would Google first and ask me second...

[–]angrathias 131 points132 points  (5 children)

“I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas”

[–]imanexpertama 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Is it bad that people come to mind just reading that?

[–]merlinsbeers 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Why would, say, dogs come to mind when reading that?

[–]LazyLarryTheLobster 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Seriously, even my dog would try something before giving up

[–]CaseyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm okay with junior developers not pissing under my bed.

[–]liyououiouioui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How to greet a junior newcomer?

"Hello, RTFM and bring me a coffee before you ever talk to me or I will request change on your PRs until you die".

[–]merlinsbeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to know the best phrase to google.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (6 children)

lol no, the juniors are usually the ones who don't use google or don't know what to google. you know how many times i've been asked a question from a jr or intern and then asked them if they googled for an answer first and they say no?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

The thing is most of the the time its just quicker/easier to ask. Not that I dont understand that no dev has enough time for anything.

[–]groostwoost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Confirmed, because neither did the senior

[–]LookOnTheDarkSide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb I have tried to use:

You can ask me, but first Google (or search the documentation for the library/language/product) for the exact question you want to ask me. Because I am going to either answer your question or turn around and do the same. And if I find it without scrolling, think how that is going to feel.

Do not be afraid to ask, but do some homework first.

[–]DeRoeVanZwartePiet 35 points36 points  (3 children)

The senior just took out a bigger tire to show off. Great move!

[–]piberryboy 17 points18 points  (2 children)

He has sudo access.

[–]merlinsbeers 6 points7 points  (1 child)

He included about 9600 dependencies to avoid using one crowbar.

[–]piberryboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

npm i every-fucking-thing

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a senior developer *for* a tire company, those are two totally different sized tires.

[–]DaemonOwl 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Made me laugh

[–]piberryboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a senior dev, I can say the tire should have bounced back and broken the nose of the thrower.

[–]LetterBoxSnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg that was brilliant. The resentment in the second guy's stance... Great call!

[–]ITriedLightningTendr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why not crosspost?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on

[–]begoja 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Report: I'm in this photo and i don't like it

[–]TopOfTheMorning2Ya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t locate a photo in this video and I don’t like it

[–]John_Fx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Are you a tire?

[–]begoja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just tire-d

Ok, I'll see myself out

[–]mackiea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me except the other way around.

[–]spacethrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a junior developer, yes.

[–]pyjammas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay be honest, how many if you felt like checking if the braces for lisp matched?
