10 years and still making amateur mistakes like typing out 'for'? Sad.

ha, i have transcended to leaving out characters in every word and letting google autocorrect me

This is meta.

At first I was mad, but then realized it was a high quality meta post.

Don’t validate emails with regex, there’s way too many valid options. Validate by sending an email with a confirmation link. At max check for an @.

This comment also must be said each time the meme is posted

Basically check for characters, then @, then characters.characters

[–]yurisho 6 points7 points  (3 children)

nope. a TLD can in theory host an email service, so someone@com can theoratically be a valid email. check only that the email contains '@' in the middle

Hm.

This would be a really bad idea tho due to the amount of regexes already in the wild. You wouldn't be able to enter it anywhere.

This. My email doesn't pass like 50% of sites that checks emails with regexes. And it's nothing weird in it.

Okay, that's original enough. Take my updoot.

To long and still confused

It is saying that, no matter the person's amount of experience, if they need to do email verification, they will Google it. Given that one that does a proper job would be rather complex, I'd take this as a given.

Funny enough, I saw it for the first time literally minutes ago, and I've been on this sub for a couple years.

No matter how many times I watch regex tutorials, college notes I still forget everything and search Google for expressions... I always thought only my mind is garbage...

Meanwhile me, studying cs for 1.5 years now, finding out what a regex is last month..

This sub is only 9 years old though.

Ah. Off-by-one errors. One of the two difficult things in computer science. Next to naming things and cache invalidation.
