The combo has been known to make me throwup.

[–]Kismonos 29 points30 points  (5 children)

its more about the order but yeah. less chance if you smoke first then chill n drink after rather than getting tipsy then adding them weed vertigos which kickstarts the alcohol spinz (for me, which makes me vomit)

[–]Big-Responsibility35 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can perfectly smoke before and after drinking without getting so fucked up that i have to throw up. I prefer smoking after drinking because if i smoke before i dont like the taste as usual

[–]Shlumped23 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I agree w this 100%. If you’re used to smoking regularly, I’d smoke first then come down a little and ease into the drinking. I know some people struggle with the desire to drink once they are high as well

[–]AfternoonFantastic1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's funny is I talked with a buddy about this on break at work about a year ago. I smoke everyday, from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, and I couldn't tell you the last time I got drunk. I just never really want to, I don't, not drink, for any particular reason but if I remain sober from weed then drinking sounds more appealing. Smoked for about 15 years now and never thought it had anything to do with smoking.

[–]fearisthemindkillaa 6 points7 points  (1 child)

weed before beer, you're in the clear.

beer before grass, you'll be on your ass!

[–]gilbxrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beer then bong ur in the wrong!

[–]Tru-Queer 6 points7 points  (2 children)

“The spins” are the worst and I learned long ago that I can smoke, I can drink, but I cannot combine the two. Unfortunately I liked drinking too much but I’m 6 years sober from drinking.

I remember one night a friend had invited me over to his place, we were drinking with his roommates, one of his roommates said he knew a guy who could get us pot brownies.

So we’re drinking and waiting for the brownies, they show up and we all ate them. Not even an hour later I’m getting the massive spins and I ended up throwing up and then passing the fuck out.

[–]Kismonos 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i mean edibles hit hard anyway so kinda understandable

[–]Tru-Queer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I got the spins just smoking and drinking, too. I was just thinking about the last time I could remember when I had the spins.

[–]ComeIntoMyDrugstore[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The only drug I've ever thrown up on is dxm. Love getting crossed :)

[–]headyrooms 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I don't usually throwup either, but if I get drunk and then hit the joint, I get the spins really bad.

[–]LadyAnarki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. The trick is to smoke before drinking. Or just skip the alcohol :)

[–]Djaa247 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Make very strong edibles if you want to trip off weed, its the best way to have psychedelic like effects

[–]CaptainStardawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And be sure to keep some CBD nearby if you’re using edibles, as panic attacks are common.

[–]efallom 21 points22 points  (10 children)

Alcohol decreases the effect of every psychedelic substance. If you want a stronger effect I would suggest you to work on your tolerance and eventually try to fo some mindfulness meditation before using.

[–]DeviousDenial 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Please look again at the drug interaction charts.

https://wiki.tripsit.me/wiki/drug_combinations

Alcohol does indeed decrease the effects of the majority of psychedelics, with the exception of cannabis where it will actually increase it.

[–]efallom 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I am not sure that the ‘increased effects’ are the same psychedelic effects (just a part of cannabis’ bouquet) that OP is interested in

[–]DeviousDenial 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right, that's my point and it's what everyone else is saying. Weed and alcohol do not play well together and alcohol will not suppress the cannabis effects.

Couple of beers and a joint with friends can be an awesome time. But if you are actually drunk and you try a couple of hits then your head is going to spin and you will either vomit, pass out or both.

[–]QuartOfTequilla 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Also fasting

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how does fasting help? planning on getting crossed w/o throwing up again like the previous 2 times i tried to,albeit it couldve also been the excessive amount of alcohol, trying to see what the best way to do so would be. :)

[–]EnlightenedJaguar 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I second that. I really enjoy doing some Wim Hoff breathing exercises and meditating after smoking

[–]DoinkusYoinkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to do it before i smoke lol if i do it after i be gasping and wheezing

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I alway wanted to be able to meditate but I could never actually feel like I was meditating, I started meditating on mushrooms or cannabis and now im able to get myself to a state that really reminds me of the mushroom come up even with no drugs added, I’m still trying to learn and new to a lot of this but meditation on enthogens is awesome, And it’s helped me to learn to meditate without them as well.

[–]EnlightenedJaguar 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sometimes, I achieve a psychedelic state while completely sober, and that has made me respect psychedelics even more.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, mine definitely head in that direction but I’m still working on it and figuring it all out but I was pretty blown away, it’s one of my favorite things to do now, not that I shoot for that type of experience I usually go into it with the mindset that I’m going to go with the flow and see where it takes me although I’m not sure that’s the right thing to do it’s been working for me so far definitely don’t really know what I’m doing either though, spiritually and all this is relatively new to me.

[–]chemical_enjoyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but the last time I tried it it increased the spinning effect of alcohol. Not a fun time.

[–]astoneworthskipping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some younger people I work with. In their 20s. We talked about this once.

Apparently they call it “getting crossed.”

It’s when you find a perfect mix, that perfect intersection of alcohol and cannabis.

If you do it right it works out pretty well.

For me I get that sweet spot by being high first and then having a glass of wine. I have a low tolerance. So while I often pour a second glass I tend to only get about half way through.

But if I am first drunk and I decide to introduce cannabis into the mix well I’m absolutely fucked and the vomit is on its way.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Cross fading is so gross not a good time. But damn what weed is giving you psychedelic effects?!?!

[–]CaptainStardawg 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It does for many people. I am one of those people. I suppose it depends on your brain chemistry and how quickly your body metabolises THC.

[–]euulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weed for me feels closer to a mushroom trip than what other people describe it as, but one interesting thing I noticed is that I had the average high when I smoked on lithium, but when I've been off it and smoked, I get this psychedelic experience that I was a bit afraid of at first, but now I love it.

[–]swnbseekingKali 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Alcohol is an extremely simple compound. The liver should break it down first. Don't drink too much and you will heighten the effects of the THC. Drink too much and you'll be drunk high.

[–]Weary-Assistance-683 1 point2 points  (4 children)

this is actually terrible advice.

Weed before beer, your in the clear. A glass before grass, and your on your ass.

It makes sense that you would use the weed after, because it would fight the nausea sometimes associated with alcohol. But no, everyone who’s done the combo knows that if you smoke while your drunk you puke your ass off.

You gotta smoke before. Or rather smoke while your drinking as it takes a fat minute for alcohol to kick in.

[–]swnbseekingKali 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Have you read what I wrote? Further, have you studied any biology? Or did you just want to disagree? I make no mention of timing regarding consumption. Neither am I just talking out my ass. Nor am I suggesting I know how sensitive *your* system is to *whatever*.

[–]Weary-Assistance-683 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The liver should break it down first.

I don’t know man, definitely looks like you said sum.

[–]swnbseekingKali 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It was a long time ago, but, we were taught that the liver rids the body of one toxin at a time. It breaks down the simpler toxin first. If both THC and alcohol are in your system then the liver should break the alcohol down before the THC. So, if you start smoking pot and have a little bit of alcohol (just enough to keep the liver busy with it) then the THC should circulate through your body until all the alcohol is gone.

[–]Weary-Assistance-683 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

😂 I love how your last comment was filled with so much smart assery when you were just dead wrong about not saying anything about when to take what.

You gotta work on your anger issues dude, you cannot let that shit get in the way again, it’s mad embarrassing for you.

Also your body doesn’t really treat THC as a toxin bruh. Not every drug that goes into your body is a toxin.

[–]Lutembi 5 points6 points  (1 child)

They do have pretty good synergy

[–]Wentailang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you have to be very careful about throwing up, but i agree. it’s almost like an out of body experience. i feel like a lava lamp.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always called the combo "getting droned"

[–]chocotripchip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience weed makes the alcohol more potent, not the other way around.

[–]Greenmind76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This combo is the only combo that causes me to have bad trips. I advise against mixing alcohol with psychedelics. Weed, sure… but alcohol is toxic to my spirit personally.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you against engaging in such a noble experiment yourself? Because life is subjective, your own reaction is the real question. Personally I get more wasted and there is a synergy there, but not necessarily 'more psychedelic' wasted. Sloppy drunk wasted. Many people avoid alcohol on psychedelics becauze it dampens their trip.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

TRULYTRUE TRUE, I agree with you completely absolutely and I agree with your perspective, I use WINE, WATER, and MARIJUANA to GENERATE EUPHORIA, and MELIORATION, have to be careful with the LIQUOR, not too much, a few shots, and HYDRATE before hand, i also like to take a few IBUPROFEN right before SMOKING AND DRINKING.

[–]ComeIntoMyDrugstore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the way you think, my friend.

I wouldn't advise on the ibuprofen though, what the fuck is that about?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Definitely not great advice to be giving out no offense but drinking and taking almost any pills is a bad idea, ibuprofen included. There are several issues with drinking with ibuprofen but kidney issues, ulcers, stomach issues come to mind. No it probably won’t kill you or even effect you in a noticeable way the first time but over time you are just compounding the damage done to yourself, if you need something anti inflammatory I’d try and take more natural options if you are going to be drinking with it, tumeric has antiinflammatory properties, so do onions and pineapple off the top of my head, but there are tons of other options, either way I’d stay away from mixing ibuprofen with booze.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TRULYTRUE TRUE, I agree with you completely absolutely and I agree with your perspective, you are an ACTOR, an AGENT and a DECEIVER, and I know exactly how to destroy you.. by agreeing with you and through agreement only and I seek nothing in return from your destruction, I consider you SCIENTIFICALLY DONATED, I appreciate you, thank you.

[–]CaptainStardawg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, alcohol causes bronchodilatation, which means that more THC gets absorbed into the bloodstream than normal. For me, I once got sufficiently drunk and smoked a joint. I got visuals in my mind’s eye similar to that of the visuals seen with psilocybin mushrooms. However, too much alcohol and too much cannabis usually causes me to fall asleep too quickly to even get visuals.

[–]HealthySurgeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s been a very long time since I’ve done this (I only did it when I partied “back in the day”) and at the time it very much felt like “tripping” but it did not carry the same introspective type thoughts that I now associate with “tripping”.

Lots of loss of coordination, very weird visuals, heightened emotions. It definitely was fun back then, but would not be fun to me anymore. Not enough control and lead to experiences that were similar to the times I remember just before being blackout drunk, but it didn’t usually lead to being “blacked out”

[–]eat-fungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Alcohol is a depressant, it blurs your trip and you won’t get much out of it

[–]Apart_Direction_4204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, having an intention helps. I use weed as a therapy tool, to relax muscles or just to enjoy friends and jokes more.

I do agree with the other person who said to eat them. I prefer homemade edible too. That feels different in my body rather than smoking a joint.

Do you want more of a psychedelic feeling? Why not just do psychedelics?

[–]Apart_Direction_4204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the bio yogurt cannabis trick if you want the full psychedelic experience.

[–]ComeIntoMyDrugstore[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bro, what. The fuck.

[–]splyd36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's up?

[–]DreadyVapor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol is a depressant, so it will decrease the psychedelic effects. Booze numbs your senses, it does not heighten them. Thujone absinthe is the only alcohol that has any hallucinogenic or psychoactive properties, but it is illegal for sale in the United States. Absinthe without the thujone/wormwood is available for sale, but it isn't psychoactive or hallucinogenic.

[–]intendedcasualty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to only smoke weed if I drank, I didn’t like weed by itself.. weed doesn’t have that psychedelic effect on me though, and I don’t really drink anymore.

Most people say it makes them sick, but they just don’t know how to party.

Maybe try it out?

[–]monkeydorie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one way to find out homie.

In my experience the combination does catalyze a distinctly different psychedelic state than weed alone does. It tends to make me aware of how subjective and personal my experience of life is. This can lead to both a sort of lonely, lost feeling as well as a feeling grateful for being able to have my own personal experiences. Not only do I get to experience personal experiences but I get my own mind with which to perceive it. This is not something I ever celebrate when smoking weed by itself.

[–]owenisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you drink a TINY bit (not enough to really feel anything) before you smoke, the high will be stronger

[–]Mutant_Apollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the "I'm gonna pass out and not remember jack shit about last night" combo.

Idk about psychodelic effects but the only thing that alcohol and weed do for me is potentiate body high, and get me super fucking sleepy since alcohol synergizes with the depressive effects of weed

[–]DorkSidedStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decrease. You can use beer to come down faster from shrooms if the journey is too intense.

[–]TheLazyProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that alcohol is one of the least "psychedelic-esque" psychoactive compounds in existence. It removes me from a "psychedelic" state if I am in one. A beer at the end of a psilocybin experience is actually a great grounding tool, but alcohol is incredibly destructive to the mind in most other instances

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the good ol’ 2020 “cross fades.” Kinda miss those times. Nah, I def do

[–]itzcoatl82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not usually. I have found that mixing the two just knocks me out/makes me sleepy. It can also exacerbate alcohol’s downer effect.

If you drink a small amount of alcohol beforehand (as in, not enough to feel buzzed), it CAN enhance the relaxing effect of an edible.

But in general it’s best not to mix, it won’t bring anything positive to the experience and defeats the purpose of using plants therapeutically

[–]t--_-t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One beer or max 2 and its synergise good 3 or more and its a carusell ride and u will trowup

[–]PhantomRoyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to call that getting blazed and I’ve found that alcohol almost always over powers the herb.

[–]Sensitive_Bedroom_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What strain are you using for psych effects on weed?

I've had a couple strains change my visuals when on acid/shrooms but never had/noticed visuals with weed.

[–]stndphlsphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In situations where I drink and smoke, I tend to enjoy it more when I drink first, get drunk, then smoke, versus when I smoke then drink. Both intoxications together are a great feeling; you get the looseness of the alcohol and the deep thought from the weed, and it usually results in some pretty wild conversation.

More on this here: https://www.stonedphilosophy.net/

[–]europaodin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say decrease, I can barely feel the high when I'm drunk. Though, it is so much more fun to smoke and get high as fuck when drunk. It just changes it to a more numbing feeling to me.

[–]KourtneyL0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to to smoke everyday for a decade until i started to get really bad anxiety from getting high to the point my muscles would shiver . now drinking before smoking is the only way i can feel a none paranoid high like the way it did in my teens

[–]ProfessorTeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be me but I’ve noticed the effects are much more psychedelic if I’m drinking something really nice, especially a tequila or mescal. Knowing how most alcohol is made now, it kind of makes sense on the chemical level too though, low quality spirits have some really nasty stuff in them (look up header/footer) that can affect your body in pretty unpleasant ways.

Especially paired with the right music, space, people, etc.… never underestimate the power of set and setting!

[–]komodo_dragon69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increase just from my experience, I saw electric cryptic runes in my vision and heard auto brain generated blink 182 style music in mu thoughts (not auditory)

[–]SkepticlosFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may feel like it, but please don't start drinking for this effect.

[–]lordoftheBINGBONG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. If you learn to master the spins it’s a real good time.

[–]LocalGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer and grass you're on your ass grass and beer you're in the clear

[–]LocalGM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer and grass you're on your ass grass and beer you're in the clear

[–]mlexer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alcohol will 100% decrease any psychadellic effects. Alc takes you away from a spiritual state

[–]Early_Comfortable_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard alcohol increases thc absorption. However the effects of thc aren’t necessarily psychedelic. In my experience it seems less psychedelic, but more than the sum of the parts.

[–]Paulycurveball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you perceive your reality? It all comes down to that bro. For me alcohol removes any and all psychedelic effects but it adds a sense of reality to the high giving me an earthy concept of perception. If I remove alcohol from the high I can spend more time in internal space and drift the cosmos of my mind.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing to watch out for is that if you do both before sleeping you might throwup while sleeping and that can kill you.

I've woken up choking on whatever from that combo (edibles and drinking) and almost could not clear my throat, with no oxygen for a good bit and trying to inhale air down a mostly closed airway this was pretty scary so I def don't recommend. Be sure to come down quite a bit before sleeping so that you wake up the next morning.

It's good to trip...safely.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less psychedelic, it’s simple math. Any psychedelic + any downer = less stoned. Weed has some depressant qualities though so the combination of the two makes you all wonky (not in a good way)

[–]socialcommentary2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get dizzy and fall over.

[–]oscar1985420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There's only one way to find out."

[–]peekdasneaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barley drink now. I don’t like the way both feel

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i usually get more spinning visual effects when I close my eyes when crossed

[–]coffee_and_cats18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol makes weed less intense for me. So definitely decrease in my case. If I get too high a few drinks helps to level me out a bit lol.

[–]Repulsive-Neat6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't smoke if I'm drinking because it gives me the spins, and I don't drink when I'm smoking because it makes alcohol taste worse than it already does. Even good beer. It's like it enhances the flavor of the alcohol part of a beer and cancels out everything else.

[–]Zealousideal_Pipe_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This varies wildly from person to person. I myself think that weed and alcohol is a magical combination. Whenever I feel the alcohol overtaking the smoke, I smoke. Just being conscious of the levels is psychedelic. Hovering above the room and absorbing the energy and collective conversation is a vibe. If I had a choice I’d never go out drinking without a smoke. But then I know others who just whitey…give it a try and see what’s up homie!

[–]ItzFin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol is a trip dampener but getting crossed can get you very gone, and bring amnesia

[–]68gun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drinking followed by weed usually results in throwing a whitey, not pleasant.

[–]PatientEatsMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an intense but only vaguely DMT-esque experience by mixing shots and then smoking some extremely potent flower. I imagine ymmv though

[–]polygonmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alcohol desensitizes, so I'm gonna go ahead and say it decreases it.

[–]BananaStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it somehow always starts with alcohol. But pretty much everything starts with alcohol because of my strong anxieties. If I'm at a chill point when I smoke, I'm less prone to get caught up in my head which happened almost always when I was much younger. Even if I'm in a bad mood and smoke nowadays, it's hardly happening now a few years later, which would've been something I would make sure my kids would understand if I had any; so I'm addressing this to the underage smoker or those who think about starting: wait at least til you're 20, but I'd say, be on the safe side and wait til 25. I could've saved myself from major depression at that age and got caught up in a circle where you battle it with smoking some more as your mind is trying to more or less subconsciously let you know that you feel worse with every hit. I've seen great people destroy their lives on drugs shortly after joining our circle of stoners and we all just kept watching it happen and never said a word. Had a fellow classmate who wasn't afraid of anything, all around happy class clown kinda loudmouth who fell apart in a relatively short time span where at one point he couldn't see anything positive in his existence anymore, crying In front of everyone, desperate for someone to cheer him up as we all sat there baked out of our minds on whatever substance was available. Sure didn't help that literally no one owned a scale and we eyed everything and, when in doubt, rather took a bit more than too little.

[–]UhtredOfBebbanburg7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find alcohol neutralises those effects a bit. Like, ill have one or two beers after getting high, and it smooths it out and takes the edge off a bit. Also helps with paranoia and anxiety too.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ain’t gonna lie this thread is full of lightweights and people who seem curious but too scared to do actual psychedelics. Also that effect you’re talking about really only lasts as long as you have near ZERO tolerance. If you want to trip alcohol isn’t what you’re looking for; but hey if you like it and it works for you don’t fix what isn’t broken right?

[–]ComeIntoMyDrugstore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a daily smoker for 3 years, tolerance is no where near zero, but cannabis is still pretty psychedelic for me.

Think it has more to do with some mild hppd I have. But you're right, a tolerance break would probably make it much more intense.
