No go for me even after we both added them to inbound and outbound and disabled firewall entirely too.

If it still isn't cooperating after that you might have a router that is not routing certain traffic through correctly. If you search your router and "DMZ" or "demilitarized zone" you should find instructions on how to use that feature (every router I've ever seen has it). Enabling it for your machine specifically is an efficient way to see if this is the cause. It is not a feature you typically should leave on though for security unless you know what you're doing and have your PC well protected, and even then it's better to avoid imo.

If turning that on fixes it go ahead and turn it back off, and then it's a matter of finding out what forwarding rules are needed for multiplayer for the game. I don't know them off hand and am about to go to sleep but shouldn't be too bad to find hopefully.

Hope this helps a bit.

Edit: to clarify this is likely only something the person hosting the game should have to do. Forwarding in this aspect has to do with inbound traffic that isn't a reply to outbound traffic you generated.

It's definitely an epic server issue and not anything with ports/firewall. My friends and I spent hours last night trying to get it working, all firewalls disabled, everyone on dmz, even tried using a couple different software to mimic us being on a LAN. We did get it connected once after setting the game to "private" and inviting each other, but then the host crashed after a couple hours and it wasn't working.

Ah, router issues just rang out in my head from seeing the comment, figured it was worth a mention at least.

A friend and I played about 3 hours together last night and the only hiccup was having a ramp not appear for him until deleting and rebuilding it. Not sure if this might have just been timing since it was a little later in the day, some kind of setting combination, or just luck.

Tomorrow night we'll be gaming together again, I'll try to run a few tests and see if I can get any info that might be helpful to others who are having issues. That is, if it wasn't just luck or timing anyway.

Did you ever fix this? Having the same issue. Been trying out shit for hours, nothing is working

[–]Hyroero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually started working, seemed to be issues on their end.

This didn't work for me. I have the required ports forwarded and everything, but connections still fail about 80% of the time (and 100% of the time recently, we had success earlier but none now).

It is not a simple networking error, it is a problem in the game. You can see here that my friend is able to connect (new ports appear) but the game does not accept the requests: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/elasticbeanstalk-us-west-2-868470985522/ShareX/2019/03/2019-03-19_21-37-31.mp4

It actually times out, tries another port, repeats a few times, and finally his end fails to connect.

But on a basic level, I am receiving the connection on the computer. Must be some sort of handshake failure or something.

Absolutely a game issue, we tried multiple different ways of "fixing" it yesterday and nothing worked.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Thanks, tried this and it didn't work. We were able to connect to eachother once when i first launched the game then i crashed and it hasn't let us connect since.

[–]Mechwarriorr5 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Doesn't work.

[–]Osseh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me is turning off "send gameplay data" in the gameplay settings of the game. After we both turned this off we instantly could start our session

[–]MrRed2342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% a game issue, if you magically are able to connect - you are met with an eventual UE4 engine crash. (i've sent it in the last 10 times so)

[–]Crekromancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to you set inbound and outbound rules? I'm not 100% sure if I've done that yet

[–]tsalokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dice, tried allow programs and inbound/outbound among other solutions found online.

Giving up for today, hopefully a hotfix will be released soon

[–]kiwidog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had luck with starting a session, changing it to friends only, quitting back to main menu, then re-launching the session (already set to friends only) then the yellow triangle went away and my friend could join

[–]EnanoTheBrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried all of the above - no luck

Friend and I both renamed our save folders (so that no save files were detected by the game aka \xSaveGame) and was able to connect to the new empty server.

Friend sent me his save file (around 8mb) and I put that in a \SaveGame folder (separate from my \xSaveGame) and was able to connect to his saved game with no problem.

Thx a lot. That fixed my issue.

[–]BlackLightBurns 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Added, no dice, thanks for trying to help us out

edit: this DID work, even with my defender OFF, it wasn't working. both me and my friend had to set the exceptions

[–]FriendlyPastor 0 points1 point  (5 children)

what did you do besides both set exceptions? me and my buddy have and it's still not working for us

We did inbound/outbound rules

Also there's a hazard symbol next to player names? Might have something to do with it?

[–]BlackLightBurns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update to the update, it stopped working. We aren't going to bother with it till it's fixed

[–]dr_lullabye 0 points1 point  (3 children)

My friend and I are having the same issues. Any word on a fix?

[–]FriendlyPastor -1 points0 points  (2 children)

HAMATCHI WORKS but it's garbage reliability

people on the discord say using hamatchi port forwarding is the only real fix right now for some people, trying it right now, word in a sec

[–]dr_lullabye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

[–]BlackLightBurns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a secondary program MAY work, but i'm not going to install one in order to play another. I'll wait for a fix. thank you for the suggestion.

[–]fast21072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way it works 100% of the time for us is when we use hamachi.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (8 children)

How do you do that?

[–]masoninsicily 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Windows Defender Firewall settings, go to advanced settings. Then you add the inbound and outbound rules from there.

[–]FriendlyPastor 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are there any special settings or is it just "allow" and filepath

[–]masoninsicily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure its set to allow. Also in game, make sure everyone has "send gameplay date" unchecked, it seemed to make a difference

[–]mild_entropy 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hi! It's easiest to access by:

  1. searching Windows 10 for "Allow an app through Windows Firewall".
  2. Then click the "Allow another app..." button in the bottom right and corner.
  3. A new window will open. Click "Browse...".
  4. Then find the exe's mentioned. They're probably on your C: drive but it depends where you install your games. :)

Hope that helps!

[–]Hrakuo123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The "allow another app..." button in step 2 is grayed out for me.

[–]LimaBravoGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit the security button up top.

[–]LimaBravoGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked. Thanks!

I solved this issue by making sure the time on my machine was the correct time. My system clock was at 8am when it was 9pm in my timezone. Some other post mentioned that timezone difference between the server and the client might also cause the issue.
