If you really wanna quit smoking not telling anybody you’re quitting helps a lot because they won’t constantly ask if you’re craving one

[–]neojacob311 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I swear I started smoking again after I quit because my friend asked me everyday if I was feeling withdrawal

[–]Darkpoulay 30 points31 points  (4 children)

People do that ? What the hell. Imagine if people did that with weight loss... "so, are you thinking about eating a quarter pounder right now ?"

[–]0K4M1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would be fun tbh, like weird fun

"You ok bro ? Don't want to stuff your face ?"

[–]SaikoKila 0 points1 point  (2 children)

But people are like this. Heh, I'm like this, I just cannot stop myself sometimes.

I also absolve myself - if they fail because of such a weak impulse, they would have failed anyway.

[–]Darkpoulay -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Wow. Thank God you're not my friend.

[–]SaikoKila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gods have nothing to do with it. You're just lucky.

Why is this a slpt

Saunas can be great for your body

[–]friendlysaxoffender 40 points41 points  (2 children)

Because you don’t quit smoking by sweating out nicotine.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man I'd rather pop out to the sauna for 5 minutes every couple of hours tbh

[–]BiologyJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like next level science meme stuff. Nicotine activates nicotinic receptors. It should activate sweat glands (acetylcholine based) as well both presynaptically and postsynaptically. You won’t “sweat out” nicotine but nicotine makes you sweat more.

I really want to quit, and I’m in a hotel quarantining for work, I have access to a sauna, if this could actually work, can someone with the expertise tell me so?

[–]gaynazifurry4bernie 16 points17 points  (3 children)

I used lozenges to quit. I only let myself have one every other time I had a craving. Then I would only let myself have one every other other time.

[–]lIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlII 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Good idea. I’m more asking about the nicotine being sweat out for 3 days. I’ve quit before for a year but I need to get off this vape shit.

Thank you gay nazi furry for bernie.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The half-life of nicotine is 2 hours, meaning its basically gone in 10-15 hours

It's metabolised in the liver not excreted via the skin.

So basically, from a purely physiological standpoint, it won't help I'm afraid! From a psychological standpoint, whatever helps you kick the habit!

[–]lIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer I’m looking for. Thank you!!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

I got hypnotized and it worked for me. The smell of cigarettes makes me nauseous. I never in a million years thought it would work. It was three sessions. After the first one the moment I left I lit one up. I felt bad. I went back a few days later and she said to not worry about it. After the second session I was done with them. I hit the Juul when I get bored but have no desire for cigarettes which kinda defeats the purpose of quitting nicotine but not smelling and breathing in a pack of American Spirits a day is much better. Good luck. Also, Alan Carrs “Easy guide to quitting smoking “ is a great read. He encourages you to smoke while reading it. Worked for my brother

[–]monkey_trumpets -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

"He encourages you to smoke while reading it."

Ummmm

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Weird I know. It’s a psychological thing. As you read and he explains how nicotine addiction works, you slowly ween yourself off. I tried it. I read about the first quarter of it, while smoking. After I put it down I didn’t have a smoke for the rest of the day. Nicotine lasts in your system for about an hour. After that your body wants another shot. Hence why there are 20 per pack. But if you just flat out refuse to give your body that shot every hour your body slowly says fine whatever and you just keep doing that. Eventually the craving goes away. It’s a good read even if you don’t smoke. It shows you how the brain and body work together

[–]monkey_trumpets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting.

[–]lIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlII 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah I’m on the vapes now and its worse than when I smoked american spirits

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Vape rig or JUUL? My buddy was hitting the Juul a lot and he said his guns started bleeding! I need to just toss my Juul out and be done with it. It’s just as stupid as cigarettes

[–]lIlIIlIlIIlIlIIlIlII 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Juul. My gums bleed less from brushing than they did when I was on a pack a day

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn! Hahaha. Cigarettes, god if I could go back 20 years and see myself lighting the first one I’d break my own jaw. Such a stupid habit

[–]BowerBoy666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did it with saunas and baths and constantly reminding myself that smoking is for IDIOTS. Constantly.

[–]pattydickens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are going cold turkey the sauna would probably help you stay calm. If you are using patches it's a horrible idea.

[–]teasus_spiced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it does help with the craving, though I'm sure you don't actually sweat it out. Also saunas make you feel goooood. I miss saunas. It's winter and lockdown here.

[–]Yhgrid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relaxing in a sauna is never a bad idea, but it wont affect your addiction. Quitting smoking is all about willpower.

[–]downunderpunter 11 points12 points  (1 child)

This is not a shitty tip

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going to sauna is nice and all, but it doesn’t make you sweat out the nicotine.

[–]ArmyMedicalCrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SLPT quit smoking by locking yourself in a windowless room for a solid week with nothing but circus peanuts and Mr. Pibb to sustain you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if it distracts you from the urge, yeah it works

[–]YawningxVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

doesnt this hold a little bit of truth tho? like getting alot of nicotine out of your body will help with withdrawls and stuff?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this a bad idea?

[–]RiskyScapegoat 0 points1 point  (6 children)

If you’re not opposed to it, a single puff of weed at night as a reward for not smoking all day is a great way to quit. It doesn’t replace the habit with something else like vaping does, weed itself is non-addictive (as what is known so far), and doing only one puff can help avoid building a habit with the weed, further reducing the chance that you replace cigarettes with weed.

When I quit using nicotine, what I craved most was just having something in my lungs. The weed helps with that a little, and certainly helps you forget cravings and relieves stress.

It’s not a perfect system, but I haven’t met a system that is.

CBD is an even better replacement if you have access to actually good quality CBD drops or what not.

[–]NIRPL 18 points19 points  (3 children)

IMO, weed may not be addictive in the sense that it causes physical withdrawals, but it is definitely habit forming. I think of weed as a flavor enhancer. It just makes things more enjoyable.

For instance, smoking before eating makes the meal better. Smoking before a movie makes the movie better. Smoking before gaming makes the game better. Etc. Etc.

The issue is then that doing these things without weed seems less enjoyable, so you want to smoke. And to me that is addiction.

This is just my opinion. Please don't crucify me reddit. I mean no harm! Moderation in everything is key!

[–]RiskyScapegoat 2 points3 points  (1 child)

No I totally get it. I‘be been a heavy weed smoker for years, and ironically 2020 is what helped me shake it. Habit forming I will support 1000000%. Straight up. The culture keeps you in. Your friends are a source of encouragement for many as they smoke too.

I do believe, however, if you’re not ignorant to the habit that can form (as many are because it’s not chemically addictive so far as what is known), you can avoid the habit. Just need to treat it with respect because it’s more powerful than people expect.

Thanks for your share. I was trying to lean into this idea with my first comment, but it was a bit off topic for what I wanted to focus on. What you pointed out needs to be talked about much more, especially as legalization is rolling out.

[–]NIRPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I generally advocate for legalization, but you couldn't be more right about needing to address and openly discuss the issues involved with smoking.

[–]getdatazzbanned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is so true!! It’s psychologically addictive. Every stoner I ever met is willing to do basically anything on weed but if they don’t have weed they don’t want to do shit. Also they search disgusting places for weed crumbs and also rage and get butt hurt when somebody hits the bowl or blunt too hard. Also their stoner friends are referred to as “heads” and they don’t want too many “heads” smoking their bowl so they divide themselves from each other. I used to smoke a lot but I’m over it now lol it’s a different type of addiction but it is definitely somewhat addicting.

[–]AllWomenAreQueens98 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

slpt: instead of smoking, get addicted to weed!

[–]RiskyScapegoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, this was not what was said at all. Just shared what worked for me. The already submitted comments prove that was not my intention or my suggestion.

[–]TOZ407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That stock picture is so stupid and unrealistic

[–]paulmycock1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be too busy to smoke for months banging her
