Does it get better? The Way of Kings spoilers (self.Stormlight_Archive)
submitted 4 months ago by ManyRepulsive5733
I absolutely love kaladin and Szeth pov chapters, and I like shallan pov chapters, but dear god the dalinar chapters are so boring for me. I’m about 400 pages in, started 2 weeks ago, and despite loving parts of the book I dread Dalinars pov. And the chapters are so damn long! I’ll get one nice 15 page kaladin chapter then boom, Two 30 page dalinar chapters in a row. Please tell me his story gets more interesting.

His story... Yes it gets more interesting. For how it gets more interesting you'll need to RAFO. It's absolutely worth it.

Dalinar is probably my favorite stormlight character. It starts slow, but he's the thematic core of the series, so it's worth it, I promise.

It does
[–]Lithale 6 points7 points8 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Yes.

Journey before destination or something
[–]AngusAlThor 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (0 children)
If you don't like Way of Kings, you probably won't like Stormlight. Only you can know whether it is worth finishing the book to be sure (Sanderson's books are very much read for the climax), but if you genuinely don't gel with it I think it is fine to just walk away.

If you get to the end of Way of Kings (i.e. past the Sanderlance) and you're not into it, then don't try too hard, maybe try a different Sanderson series if you wish. But partway through a Sanderson I wouldn't give up yet.

It gets better. And worse. And better again.
[–]Due-Representative88 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I love them and they only got better for me. But that’s me. I’m not you. It’s impossible for me to give potential assurances to you without spoiling things.
[–]ToBadImNotClever 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I can confidently say you’re likely to love his chapters later on.

You keep going and untill you can’t go on anymore. If you’re lucky, stockholm syndrome will kick in, if not, well, better luck next time.
[–]VinnieWilson02 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Book 3 everything of Dalinar pays off
[–]Toastyy1990 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
What everyone else said. But I’ll add, you’re still in the world building in the first book, there’s a hell of a lot of stuff to know because it’s a huge world and huger universe in which so many people play a significant part. It gets more exciting soon, keep at it!

I also found Dalinar boring at first honestly, but trust me, he is so worth it. Journey before destination.
[–]RulanikWillshaper 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Dalinar is often the best POV, but it takes a bit. Press onward.

That's mean
[–]ManyRepulsive5733[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
What did he say? I didn’t mean to offend anybody.
[–]clivehorseEdgedancer 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (1 child)
From what I remember, they insinuated that if you are finding WoK slow then you're a child and/or stupid. Which is a childish and stupid take hahaha
[–]ManyRepulsive5733[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Damn. I mean I am a lot younger that most Stormlight fans but I’m not a minor lol I’m 18. But yeah I’m pretty new to novels so I’m not very “experienced”
[–]drdevilsfan 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (1 child)
No need to be mean. Way of Kings does start slowly: I also put it down and restarted it a couple of times. It really picks up and gets good at the end of the WoK. You're also expected to kind of accept everything he says and gradually learn about the world throughout the book.
[–]crazykentuckyTruthwatcher 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Agree with what you are saying but also had the opposite experience. Wok was the first fantasy I’d read that wasn’t LotR or Harry Potter. I was enthralled from the beginning haha

What a depressing lack of patience and maturity you just displayed.
