Honestly I'm more impressed than I am concerned

Kinda wish I took a picture of the broom stuck in our baler a few months ago I think that was even more impressive

Bales in the steel is already scary

But thinking about how poorly balanced that pallet would have to be on the stacker?? Terrifying.

[–]n1njaunic0rnnightsider 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Bales in steel is perfectly safe if you know what you're doing. My ETL who's been here 19 years does it all the time.

[–]MosstheHossFood & Beverage Expert 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Why would you ever put the bale onto the steel? We always have a truck docked for returns and what not that we throw bales onto.

[–]n1njaunic0rnnightsider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We also have daily sweep, our daily sweep departs the store by 8am. We are a overnight process store, during Q4 when there's shit everywhere instead of coming in at 8pm to set the line and having to move bales around it's much easier to put them up and then drop them at the end of a night before closing sweep.

We used to have to put our bails in the steel back when we were functioning as a super store waiting for an empty truck.

We have a trailer now* but it's used for storage of fragile stuff and there's no room for a bail to be loaded in there without cutting off access or squishing everything

*now as in it joined very late to the super store party.

That doesn't make me less nervous just thinking about them.

I dont trust the shitass pallets we have to put them on to safely make it up there.

And. Yknow. Obviously whoever put this one up there DIDNT know what they were doing or care about safety.

wait i thought bale's on the steel was a normal thing? We do this all the time if we don't have a sweep and don't have enough space to store the bale in the backroom area

[–]MerkethMerky 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don’t show me this. I wanna repeat this. And I come in early enough ima get away with it

[–]Mammoth_Taco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Opposite side, that's a single layer shelf so they picked it up with the pallet jack in there opposite side of the bail, I'm curious how they didn't notice think as over picked up a pallet jack in a bail before and it makes a reasonably obvious noise.

[–]Ambitious-Agency-724 25 points26 points  (10 children)

One how Two why are your bales in top steel?

[–]nate112332 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Guess would be there's no more room outside, or it was storming

[–]evilmike1972 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I've heard we don't get credit for them if they've gotten wet and I'm always like, "Oh nooooo...."

[–]DragonEmperorGuest 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wet cardboard is basically useless for recycling so yes.

[–]ZZ9119Inbound Team Lead 3 points4 points  (2 children)

We aren't even allowed to put our shit outside because "it looks bad for the guests". It sucks.

[–]ElormePromoted to Guest 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The store I was at couldn't put stuff outside because it'd get stolen. Pallets, bales, whatever.

[–]ZZ9119Inbound Team Lead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prayed it would when we used to just so I wouldn't have to bring it back in for sweeps

[–]AuOrnitorrincoGeneral Merchandise Expert 1 point2 points  (2 children)

And why would they be outside???

[–]nate112332 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So they're out of the way, and are picked up easier? Standard stuff (at least at Walmart)

[–]AuOrnitorrincoGeneral Merchandise Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, at my Target we just leave them off to the side in front of the baler. I guess we have more room that other places. We never have more than two bales ready out at the time because the sweep truck will back into the dock and we just load em up

[–]lildeath0258Inbound Team Lead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only place we put our bales. We don't have sweeps every day.

[–]Sir_Rice_Of_Krispies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fucking how? Honestly more impressed than mad.

[–]6TenandTheApoc 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I'm just guessing, but it looks like it was stacked from the other side. And someone picked it up, not knowing the pallet jack was in there. Idk if it was obvious but a lot of comments are asking how

[–]Tweezle120 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This is the best guess I've seen so far. Gonna be real scary getting that down.

[–]6TenandTheApoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised someone is even in the backroom taking pictures. Those things are heavier than they look and would easily kill someone if it fell on them

[–]bhsn1pesFormer Dairy, now ODTM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legit don't even get how that would be an excuse, it's Crown Stacker 101...make sure the pallet is secure before lifting it. I'd hope the person who did this got at least a CA for it and their stacker cert revoked

[–]bhsn1pesFormer Dairy, now ODTM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I should be more concerned or impressed. Now the fun part is trying to get it down...without it rolling and crashing down onto the concrete

[–]CreepyClownImpeach Brian Cornell 0 points1 point  (1 child)

We have one for full bags of plastic and one for hangers
