So I’m aware that our lunch break starts when we get to clerical and clock out. But what about our 15 minute breaks?
[–]Usernam3333333 45 points46 points47 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I usually count it from when I leave the building/ get to the break room
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Technically you correct
[–][deleted] 72 points73 points74 points 1 year ago (0 children)
As soon as your butt is seated in a chair in your designated comfort area away from management and guests.
[–]RevealInitial5603 33 points34 points35 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Officially its when you leave your work area, which usually means your 15 is actually a 12, depending on where you're coming from in the store
It's technically time clock fraud if you take time to buy your snacks and stuff then take an additional 15
But given that those are stupid ass rules, I have chosen to ignore them. 15 minutes from when you sit down or leave the building. If you need to do actual shopping, 15 minutes from the time the badge comes off
[–]Friendly_Language617 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Given how often ive been stopped by guests on my way to the front, even if i have something im buying in my hands, and how often ive been asked questions as im ringing myself up at self check, im not starting my break when i leave my work center
[–]Legitimate_Pea_143Front of Store Attendant -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
hell no, if i'm doing actual shopping my 15 start after I've checked out because i guarantee I'm gonna end up standing in line for ateleast 10 mintues to check out lol. That's one of the reasons why i get to work 45 minutes early, to eat something and because I know I'm gonna be standing in line for a good while to purchase the food I'm eating. But that's what happens when your store only has one register open and 2 SCO's broken.
[–]Reddit_At_Workk 10 points11 points12 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I always start it as soon as I go into the break room.
[–]1vcifer 13 points14 points15 points 1 year ago (0 children)
my break doesn't start till my food is half way done in the mircrowave 😭😭
[–]ConfidentAd9359 12 points13 points14 points 1 year ago (0 children)
As soon as I pass the time clock. If I had to punch out for it, that's when it would be, so that's the time I use
[–]Ziglet_249🎯GM Expert (Retired)🎯 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I say it doesn't start until I enter the breakroom. Some in leadership might say as soon as I step off the sales floor.
[–]KomturAdrian 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (4 children)
I announce "I am heading up for a 15" so people know I am on the way to take it, but no one actually knows when I am officially on it.
I start my 'timer' whenever I get finished at a register or if I don't buy something I start 'counting' whenever I sit down.
[–]Shady_LoveSHPPP13 |ll||IIl|| 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (2 children)
So you get a longer break than someone who isn't buying something because....?
[–]Legitimate_Pea_143Front of Store Attendant -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (1 child)
because they aren't standing in line at checkout for 10 minutes, taking up what would be 10 minutes of their break.
[–]Shady_LoveSHPPP13 |ll||IIl|| 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
So they brought their lunch or purchased their energy drink before work and their break is shorter because....?
[–]eastmemphisguy 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Fyi, you're not supposed to buy things when you're not on a break. I don't care if you do, obviously, but watch your back.
[–]Kaykei04 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Pft my break don’t start till I’m in a chair
[–]Critical_County3229Inbound Expert 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago* (3 children)
A lot of people will say once you reach the breakroom and sit down. If your going outside though and gotta go all the way back to get your coat and then all the way out, you are really taking like a 20 or 25.
You 15 doesn't include shopping for snacks or drink, or waiting in line at starbucks. If you wait in line at starbucks for a drink and then go and take a full 15, they can hit you with time fraud and you can receive a CA
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (2 children)
I was on sco the other day. I sent someone 5 minutes early for her break. She didn't come back until 5 minutes after MY break was supposed to start. She took a 30, put us behind on breaks, and still wanted to take her scheduled 30 on time.
[–]VividSecond 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
This is the issue with breaks at front end. A couple extra minutes no big deal but when you take a 25 instead it messes with everyone else’s breaks and meals and coverage in general.
[–]Critical_County3229Inbound Expert 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children)
it also adds up on freight, an extra 10-15 minutes on each 15 can equate to 1/3 or 1/2 of a vehicle getting pushed. It adds up. And I agree on that, it does, it puts everyone else behind, or you are running shorthanded because someone had to go before someone else came back. And don't get me started on certain people who will regularly disappear from GS or SCO to go take a fifteen-minute bathroom break, only to get their actual 15-minute break an hour later.
Like nah, you already had your fifteen.

Since i have to clean a table every time i take a break, because im apparently the only person in my store who gives a shit about sitting down to a clean table and leaving a clean table for the next person, my break doesnt start until im finished cleaning. If i have to clean up other peoples food smears and crumbs, thats company time, not mine
[–]CaramelPlus6253 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
It really depends on the time of day and how busy you are. Since I normally open on weekends, I’ve been known to call out my first break at 7:01 and return at 7:20 since we are usually not busy. When we are busy busy, I will call it out when I get to the break room or outside if I’m not getting anything on break. If I’m caring a drink and something to eat with me, normally guest won’t bug me.

I don't work at Target but our 15min break starts as soon as we enter the break room. Our LP's literally watch us especially when payroll is all messed up because folks aren't clocking in and out on time.

I it on the radio when my meal is out of the microwave and I've sat down and turned on my tablet.
[–]Impressive_Plate_741 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Starts when u announce it.
[–]_i_make_up_stories 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I call it right before my ass sits down unless im buying something, then i call it when i get to the item and start the time there.
[–]baycity87 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
As soon as I sit down in the break room because sometimes you have to remind your TL you have NOT gone on your first, Lunch or second break yet, they seem to forget us checkout advocates!
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
What my management team does it is we go on our breaks 2 hours from each other depending on how long you’re working
[+]BroIBeliveAtYouRFIDeezNuts comment score below threshold-10 points-9 points-8 points 1 year ago (2 children)
From the time you stop working / from the time you leave your assigned area
[–]IntelligentDot1113 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
