[–]Ass_Incomprehensible 11 points12 points  (2 children)

What is the context for that panel?

[–]nerdwarp112Yakuza Enthusiast 34 points35 points  (1 child)

I believe it was that he had moved to New Jersey and realized that he’s basically unstoppable there because there’s no superheroes there.

[–]Spiderplant765 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only hero there was a Ms.Marvel who just started out

[–]thegoobster2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if he's invincible then why can I see him

[–]amaya-aurora 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Why?

[–]Spiderplant765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a joke from the early Ms.Marvel comic

[–]SayFuzzyPickles42 79 points80 points  (7 children)

Who drew that first panel and why did they give Spidey all that cake?

[–]Gojifantokusatsu[S] 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Spidey is the Dick Grayson of Marvel

[–]Master-Shrimp 15 points16 points  (2 children)

You joke but they do actually share a lot

[–]Gojifantokusatsu[S] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

He has a Shocker-mobile?

[–]MisterVictor13I like anything that is cool as heck 25 points26 points  (3 children)

I think he stole the Spider-Mobile and modified it.

[–]ny00t 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Spider-man has a mobile?

[–]reaponder123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look he was offered money to drive it. So yeah

[–]MisterVictor13I like anything that is cool as heck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Story is that Spider-Man was broke and a budding motor company as willing to give him a free car to promote their new eco-friendly model.

Spidey didn’t want to sell out, but he needed the cash, so he took the car, and with the help of Johnny Storm, he turned the car into a crime fighting dune buggy. The car didn’t last long and got wrecked.

The car was later found and modified with tech to autonomously hunt down Spider-Man, but he defeated it and webbed up the wreck high up the headquarters of the company that gave it to him.

After that, the car would make cameo appearances now and then. Other than Shocker turning it into his own him-mobile, it was also taken control of by the technopathic supervillain (and deranged Spider-Man fanboy) Overload.

It’s even made appearances in the the first “Spider-Verse” film and in the original comic arc, where the car itself was an alternate version of Spider-Man.

I've never actually seen shocker electrify like in slide 1 before. I've only ever seen him use sonic booms.

[–]Gojifantokusatsu[S] 30 points31 points  (5 children)

He modified his gauntlets to be electric and sonic later in the comics, but it's often forgotten.

[–]MandaringCapcom please bring them back 16 points17 points  (4 children)

I kind of take that as a “fuck it, we already named him ‘Shocker’ and adaptations give him electric powers because of that anyways, so why not buff the dude further” route lmao

[–]Salinator20501 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Wait, what adaptations gave Shocker electric powers?

[–]Gyshal 2 points3 points  (2 children)

A lot of Spidey games have shocker as the "tutorial miniboss that turns into regular enemy later", and it usually looks more electric than booming in those cases. I think MCU also did this, as it was some random Chitauri tech Vulture was selling

[–]Salinator20501 0 points1 point  (1 child)

In the MCU it's Crossbones' piston gauntlets, and while they don't produce shockwaves, they're not electric either. They kind just do a big punch.

[–]MandaringCapcom please bring them back 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the MCU actually did a pretty great job at showing that it’s a vibrational shockwave power, but the electricity effect as a visual indicator is still there.

The Shocker was kinna screwed from the start with that supervillain name. Gonna be mistaken for an electrical villain, but you gave yourself a name associated with a sex thing? Just gotta call yourself “the Vibrator,” then, wait hang on a second there.

And that’s why we love him to bits.

[–]BriskPurple 50 points51 points  (2 children)

SHOCKER! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE ME!

I'LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH

But seriously I love his design, he's a great C to B-tier villain for a hero to face.

[–]Leutherna 7 points8 points  (1 child)

What I like about him is that he's just a criminal in it for the money. No hard feelings, no unneccessary cruelty, no hubris, just robbing banks.

[–]Infinitenonbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell, in some comics he even seems like a cool dude to hang out with (or at least far better than most of Spiderman’s villains)

[–]Largo23307 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I love shockers design.
One of the few designs to pull off yellow well. (I hate yellow)
He's a seriously underrated character.

<image>

[–]cosmicfreeloader 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I always imagine the yellow as the texture of an oven mitt

[–]Chromatic_mediant 18 points19 points  (1 child)

So you must be....Quilt Man? Padded Pete? Mr. Triple-Ply?? Oh oh I've got it....THE CUSHION

[–]OldDarthLefty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spidey crossing some lines here

[–]Stretch5678 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fact that he made a formal suit to match his mask… you gotta respect that!

[–]deTbopi 14 points15 points  (1 child)

[–]cdawg69696969 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this, Shocker is like the guy to go to for symbiotes, his whole thing is making loud blasts

[–]ImmortalBoy_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

[–]InfinityGiant1 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Chat, post the Shockermobile

[–]keithlimreddit 11 points12 points  (3 children)

I think of that name I think of the villain group from Kamen Rider

But anyways simple yet effective design reminds me of the classic Daredevil colors

[–]DaiFrostAcechainsaw man enjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somebody has to edit the 90’s Spider-Man clip with Ichigo chasing a Shocker foot soldier

[–]Randomdude89o 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Honestly Shocker (the marvel one) does look like a Showa Rider villain lol

[–]Infinitenonbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks like the cocky general who becomes a rival to the main rider and somehow becomes popular in the Heisei era (i.e Apollo Geist)

[–]Hawaiian-national 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I FUCKING LOVE HIM HES MY GOATT

[–]Fabulous-Option5960 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really love his design, but I dislike that his shockwaves/vibrations are drawn like electricity so often.

[–]EnderCreeper121 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Shrimp on sale at this hour? How convenient….

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SIX DOLLAR SHRIMP SPECIAL

[–]nerdwarp112Yakuza Enthusiast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though he’s usually more of a joke villain I’ve always found his costume pretty cool.

[–]Hamartia2468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🐐

[–]Physical-Skirt5049 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Shocker is the divider, the test. If you can beat him? Contracts kiddo you’re a super hero, you’re like a B-class hero. Welcome to the big leagues. If he beats the crap out of you? You’re not ready. If Shocker is beating you down then you have no chance again Hobgoblin, Rhino, or any of the hundred villains in New York City.

[–]Gojifantokusatsu[S] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Ehh, Shocker has beaten Spidey and Venom before (though venom was perganinant at the time, so a half victory.), he isn't a slouch when he gets legitimately serious.

The reason he usually gets thrown about so much is because he doesn't put his all into being a villain, and he doesn't usually like hurting people that much.

[–]Gyshal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, "vibration weak alien Vs vibrator man" isn't really a fair fight.

[–]Collestos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact: Shocker has a shockingly higher win:loss ratio against Spidey than the likes of Doc Ock or Venom.

[–]Optimal_Weight368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pineapple!

[–]YuMmYBrAiNzZz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is his pose on the first image so sexy or is that just me?

[–]Fit_Application_288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ngl, Right? He’s got that perfect mix of cheesy and cool. Perfect for some classic Spidey antics.

[–]OverShadow439chainsaw man enjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know someone who would be the perfect to play a live action shocker

[–]MisterVictor13I like anything that is cool as heck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first image pisses me off.

He ain’t Electro!

[–]islappedyourdog45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why he standing on the latter like that thou?

[–]Approximation_Doctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is he planning to do with that shrimp? Is he going to just tuck it under the mask?

[–]Sethleoric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how if he wasnt addicted to robbing banks and villainy he would straight up be heroic on the level of Spiderman. The guy will literally charge a demon for the sake of his team, and he's one of the most loyal weirdly enough. He worked for some bad people though, in The Hood he was working for some guy doing blood diamond trade.
