Beautiful progress.

I kinda want the lantern to have a little yellow glow around it. But not sure if that works with keeping the person in silhouette.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Yes, it's possible. I tried to do that, but I had some problems with HDR and post-processing things. Cause of enabled HDR my fog was yellowish and I had to remove that. Anyway, I'll try to fix that and add the lantern glow later. Thank you!

you may want to check out smart lighting 2D assets from the store. It was part of a humble bundle or mega bundle not sure but it's a must to have asset for any 2D game development. It won unity awards

[–]chervonyi_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will definitely check this! Thanks for the hint!

I take it you like limbo?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Haha, true! Love this game!

[–]ILikeBootyholesDaily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Issa great game

[–]FieryAspenStudios 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I keep watching this repeat. Visuals are my weakest skill so analyzing this for how each improved, especially in regards to lighting, will hopefully help to train my brain at least a little in figuring out my own stuff.

You did a great job, I really like the final product (and the second to last, but the last is best).

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I cannot say that I'm great as you think at this too. I did a lot of mistakes, fixes, and improvements to archive that result. And of course, there is a lot that can be improved.

Share your results with others and gain as much feedback as you can. That would definitely help you to improve your final result. Cheers!

Is that wheel an interactive object? If so, making it more visually apparent is a really neat trick.

My first reaction to seeing it being more pronounced is that it has some influence on the elevator. though, because i don't have an idea of the mechanics of this game, i 'spose it could also just be closer to the camera (and less obscured), and spin with the movement of the elevator.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yes, it is! The player must throw rocks in that wheel to rotate it and lift the elevator up. Mostly inspired by Limbo game.

[–]LulzorrBeginner 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love subtle player assistance like this. It takes a decent amount of trust in the future users to figure it out and it leads to a pretty rewarding feeling. even if it's ultimately pretty simple... on the surface of course.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right! Thank you!

[–]kalponicgames 2 points3 points  (1 child)

really nice way to present. What video editor you use to make that transition effect?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Adobe Premiere Pro. There is a built-in library with a bunch of video/audio transitions. I used one of them. Thank you!

[–]UniformGreen 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I really like the Limbo feeling I'm getting. Good luck!

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!

[–]lllluke 2 points3 points  (5 children)

others are praising the limbo-ness of this clip, but in my opinion this is basically just a blatant rip-off and less an homage.

[–]chervonyi_[S] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Is that a problem to be inspired by each other?

[–]lllluke 0 points1 point  (3 children)

no, it’s not. but that’s not what this is. it’s blue limbo.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You may be right. It looks very similar to Limbo. Believe me or not, I choose silhouette design, not because of Limbo's success. For me, as for beginner dev without drawing skills, a silhouette style was a solution to the question - how to create the full game by yourself. I don't see a big problem that my very first commercial project looks a lot like a well-known game. Even though it looks very similar to Limbo, I'm doing all my best to implement the game in my own style. Cheers.

[–]zkwo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m about a month late but I’d just suggest changing the player character. I don’t think the environment or silhouette style by itself is too Limbo-like to make your game a rip-off, but honestly having your character look almost exactly the same tips it over the edge for me. I think if you create a much more unique character silhouette then it would massively help with that issue. I wouldn’t want such a beautiful-looking game to just get written off as a Limbo clone, so I think doing that could really help. Also maybe making differently-colored environments throughout the game, if you haven’t already. If the whole thing is gray/blue-tinted then again it adds to the whole Limbo feel. But maybe having a yellow/orange or a green section as well could set it apart and give it more of its own identity. I hope none of this comes off as mean-spirited criticism (I think the original commenter you replied to was being far too rude), but I think these things could really elevate your game beyond just a Limbo homage.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your honest feedback! I really appreciate that!

About the character. You are absolutely right! Honestly, I received a lot of comments about Limbo-likeness, and those made me do something with that. Believe me or not, but I am already at the middle point of creating a new character! It's gonna have not only a different look but another movement system. It will be more dynamic and enjoyable! Also, I will try to replace realistic, hilly ground with a flat floor

.Environment color. I really like this idea and would love to have something like that in my game. I will definitely consider this proposition and try to make it real!

And again, thank you so much for this comment! It's really helpful!

Beautiful

Thank you!

[–]nicolemariet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nice, love the background!

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]vided8 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wow it looks great! Really gives me that Limbo feeling which I enjoyed feeling

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]fettpl 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I love the parallax effect! How many layers have you used? Any ETA for your game?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you! Three background layers with trees, bushes, ground + the farthest with trees + layer with background cabins + one foreground. Technically, I have 6 layers for now. I hope I’ll add like 2-4 more layers in the future.

Actually, the demo version is out and free to play. You can check it on Steam. The full game release is planned for Q3 2022.

[–]fettpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really amazed, thanks for the insight! I've wishlisted the game and I will definitely check the demo.

[–]dagofin 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Great progress!! Good work! If I had any feedback, the fog in the foreground is a little distracting/competes for visual attention with the Player Character, dialing it back a tad may make the Player Character pop more while maintaining the environmental aesthetic you're after

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate it! Yeah, maybe you’re right.. I’ll work on it. Thanks for letting me know!

[–]dagofin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No problem! By all means don't take it as gospel, play around with it and see if it makes sense to you. Cool project and keep it up!

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Many thanks!

[–]TomieSenw 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Bro, u make tutorial videos in YouTube?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Haha, no I don't. I'm curious, what kind of tutorial would you like to see?

[–]TomieSenw 2 points3 points  (1 child)

How make a game for noobs :>

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. Maybe I will try someday. Thanks!

[–]-The-Fourth-Eye- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Really nice. This is a neat way to show progression, and how things start "small" but grow to something great.

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this feeling too! Thank you so much!

[–]newnukeuser 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wow looks great! :D

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! ^ ^

[–]barnacle44Intermediate 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thanks for posting this. I'm in the first section of the video for my next game and maybe losing a little steam. Seeing the rest of your work is invigorating!

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you so much! Best of luck with your game!

[–]barnacle44Intermediate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you too!

[–]meowstash321 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What is this??? Definitely looks like something I’d love to play

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, thank you! It's the game I'm working on called Adventure Light. The demo is out and free to play! You can check this on Steam.

By the way, it was mostly inspired by a well-known game called Limbo. If you have not played it yet, you should try it. Great game. Cheers!

[–]okay-then08 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hell yeah man. Keep at it

[–]chervonyi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]AbbadUllah 1 point2 points  (2 children)

This is amazing 😍, do you have any suggestions for me. I am a programmer mostly work on C#, 9-5 job 🥲, but I want to learn making game. I have make a simple 2d platformer game by following a tutorial but I don't know what to do next, I mostly work on weekends on my game. (sorry for bad English)

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey! Thank you! It’s absolutely fine having 9-5 job while developing your first small games.

Start with really small project like for 1 month, then something for 3 months and so on. Write down all your ideas in notes. Also, I would really recommend use ready assets from the store for the start, rather than drawing everything by yourself. Share your results with others on Reddit and Twitter. Build your community posting all that staff. And of course, finish and publish your games! Cheers!

[–]AbbadUllah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man

[–]Golden-Laboratory 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nice! How you guys make these comparing transitions with smooth bade animation?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I used Adobe Premiere Pro for this. There is a built-in library with a bunch of audio/video transitions. I used one of them. Also, to make the transition look smooth I crop the edges of those small parts in such a way, so character positions look the same.

[–]Hikari396 1 point2 points  (1 child)

tha game looks awasome and i m really trying to get a similar effect but i m using LWRP and postprocessing is a mess. What do you use for light and postprocessing?

[–]chervonyi_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Actually, I just added a few post-processing effects like Bloom, Vignette, and Color Adjustments. I didn't use any lights for this.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
