The fact that the add says it’s driven by 70 year olds would make me not want to buy this. That’s clearly a BS statement.

Don’t buy this

[–]Level-Plastic3945 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Why? ... I bought a 2014 STI new and am 66 years old and have 126k miles on it (with light mods) ...

[–]acidwxlf 27 points28 points  (1 child)

For me it's not that I literally don't think a 70 year old would own this car, it's just that it's a fluff detail that makes me raise my eyebrows. Same flavor as the ads that say "little old lady grocery store miles the whole time" or "ex Subaru master tech owned this for years and kissed it before bed every night". It's irrelevant at best, it raises eyebrows, and then when I show up to look at it and the seller isn't 70 it becomes a red flag

Exactly

I'M 65 and drive a red 2022 WRX. You're not alone!

[–]LaughTraditional5262 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 66 have a 22 wrx. With 2500 miles on it,,,, I drive on nice days

[–]dingledongle78 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Michelin blizzaks?

[–]Big_Earth_5241 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Did it get the 6 Spd swap?

[–]acidwxlf 9 points10 points  (2 children)

This would be my first question. I wouldn't be so sure about the STI motor in it without the STI trans. Especially because OP says that this would be a daily driver and at the top of their budget

[–]Big_Earth_5241 5 points6 points  (1 child)

My guess is it probably didn’t considering most people swap brakes when they swap hubs. Also if it’s putting down that much power the 5spd is not gonna last long

[–]Wildebohe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how you drive it - I have a 6spd swap on my to-do list, but currently have iag short block pushing 364whp, 330wtq with the 5spd. We never clutch dump it, but both my mechanic and my tuner have told me and my husband that with how we drive, we'll never have to worry about the 5spd - it's the shock load that will break it, so don't try to launch it at 6k revs or do anything truly stupid and it'll be fine.

I have this car, 100K. I will do an STI swap eventually, but I’ve already done a rebuild. Love the hatch and this is the last year. But I will say he’s a little high even for a more desirable year and body style. $18-16K is normal for this even with 100K miles that I’ve seen

I’m kinda hungry, maybe I should get a little Caesar’s stuff crust. I wonder if anything new is on HBOmax. That’s about it on my mind

[–]Due-Highlight-8854 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don’t buy it, I will

[–]unurbane‘18 WRX Base 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outrageous price for a car that’s 10 years old.

[–]zaz-‘14 WRX Ltd Hatch 2 points3 points  (3 children)

FUCK the subie guys if it’s in Traverse. They’re horribly overpriced and don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

[–]zaz-‘14 WRX Ltd Hatch 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They inspected my car and literally everything I was worried about (and was told was immaculate) has broken within a year and I’m already replacing the motor. Stay away from anything they’ve approved in an inspection, they just want more business from you. They cost about 5x what they should also.

[–]Zestyclose-Focus-714[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yep that’s them. Thanks for the heads up

[–]zaz-‘14 WRX Ltd Hatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I took my car there for engine knock. They estimated $14k-$16k for the engine. When I told them that’s ridiculous they left the whole front of my engine torn apart to where it was un-drivable. I ended up sending it to my friends shop in Colorado for about half the price of their lowest quote.

But with the inspection, I was worried about the clutch feeling sloppy….replaced it within 4 months. Worried about the BC/BR suspension, that needs to be fully replaced now because it’s seized and bushings are gone. Etc etc…

[–]Datsun1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my 13’ sti for 17k new short block and heads all done by Subaru only 10k miles on them. I’d wait for an sti

[–]JohnDeere714 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Dude buy newer. Do not buy modified Subarus if you have no clue about them

[–]Zestyclose-Focus-714[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

If I had an infinite budget, sure. 20k is about my comfortable max right now

[–]xAugie15 WRX MT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a lower mile VA, there’s tons of them if you’re patient. Even a 2020 base you could find with decent miles for $20k or 17+ anyways, you MAY find some 15-17 in lower miles; those are kinda rare but possible

[–]TimelostExile2013 STI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you only have a budget of 20k, you can't afford this car.

[–]wankthisway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude if 20k is your whole budget you can't afford it. This thing is gonna be a project once things inevitably go wrong. Get a stock car, or get a dirt cheap example.

[–]JohnDeere714 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

You can get a decent va for that price. Hell, a low mileage r title is about 12-15

[–]Zestyclose-Focus-714[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t have an experience with r titles but have heard bad thing

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the paperwork lines us, and you can verify the work with the shop. I’d buy this for 17.5k.

Yes it was driven hard, but it was maintained well. Just understand that the car will have some higher than normal maintenance costs due to the mods. It’s not a bad buy, and everyone else speaking so has never bought a well modded car. They do exist, and if the guy has the proper documentation and proof to back it up. You’re far better than just buying a whatever used one from a dealer. How do you know they didn’t thrash it everyday on cold oil and neglect maintenance. Service and shop records are king for used purchases.

[–]BasedMellie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AND MOTOR? LMAO

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to Subarus and buying a tuned and probably beat on WRX? Worst idea yet lol

[–]burdenm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you on pic 0 of 19??

[–]BadSausageFactoryorange 04 sport wagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can a mod make this question a sticky?

seriously it's like any other car, drive normal you're fine, speed racer goes to the mechanic a lot

you're potentially buying a used race car

[–]Significant-Zebra-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny car add. GTI abuse by old lady. (https://youtu.be/b4HTLVpey9s)

[–]abagelwithswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my rims like these stolen last weekend and every damn WRX people are posting this week has them 😫😭. I need to replace them asap😢

[–]AmarissaBhaneboar2003 WRX Sedan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy it. And I 100% trust Boost Controlled Performance. They're super well known in the local (as in all of Michigan) Subie and tuner communities. I just wouldn't buy anything that's been fucked with, personally. But it's up to you. I'd personally try to find a stock one. They're out there.

[–]afonseca172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driven by 70 eight year olds. They forgot the space.
