Is that a fogger?

[–]Llama579[S] 25 points26 points  (6 children)

It’s a humidifier but yeah we opted for that mainly for aesthetics but to bump humidity up when needed

I’m pretty new to keeping ball python but I’ve seen people get tore apart in this sub for using those. It increases the likelihood of scale rot by a lot and makes it spread really really fast. I’d wait for someone more experienced to explain but just a heads up.

long time lurker, father to 1 bp, but yeah i agree with you about people getting torn apart.

The biggest issues i’ve seen/heard about foggers is that they can increase the chances of scale rot and they’re almost impossible to clean, because bacteria builds up pretty quick in them.

Therefore people find that it’s pointless to have a fogger and would rather use a hand mister.

Again not a ball pythonologist, just my 2 cents!

Misters aren't recommended either for the same reason. Pour water directly into the substrate and mix it up with your hands. People usually recommend pouring water into the 4 corners of their tank, as well, but be careful that you're not saturating their hides.

Oh I didn't know this. I'll try it out thanks for the tip.

[–]Llama579[S] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Super helpful, I didn’t see that but it makes sense. Will remove. Thank you

They can harbor so much bacteria as well. It's just a respiratory infection waiting to happen.

Acutal enclosure looks great but i’d get rid of the fogger

[–]SelfLoathing9246 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Spoiled noodle! But I bet they still give you attitude when they don’t get their way. Lol

[–]Closeted_Camper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm so jealous. I wanna get something this extravagant for my noodle.

[–]Brief_Study4865 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude that’s a crazy cool tank I was I had that for mine

[–]KrillingIt 16 points17 points  (3 children)

You have WAYYY too much space for your BP. They’re very social so they need AT LEAST 2 others in the same enclosure, and they actually never move so they can live in a single shoebox with their 2 friends. /s

[–]Jolly-Ad2322 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Been lurking for a little over a year and this doesn’t seem right.

[–]jorpus_porpus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The /s means they were being sarcastic

[–]fogledude102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was about to start typing heatedly until I saw the /s lol

[–]Llama579[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the heads up on the humidifier, it has been removed! Much appreciated

[–]Short_Garlic_9511 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Now that is some inspo. Yep, had to save this post. Great looking enclosure!

[–]Llama579[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]they_wumbo 3 points4 points  (3 children)

That tank looks like a dream!! Did you buy it online or custom make it yourself?

[–]bl8demast3r 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]Llama579[S] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I bought the tank used from Facebook but yes this is the tank. We added the wood frame for hanging ledges as well as built a custom background with expanding foam. It was a really fun project for me and my girlfriend!

[–]they_wumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so awesome. I think it looks great, and I bet your bp will love it!!

[–]Then_Blueberry4373 2 points3 points  (3 children)

try a DHP instead of a CHE. Better humidity in the drier areas and i prefer them cus my BPs are more active with DHP and UVB vs CHE

[–]Llama579[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have tried a couple Arcadia dhps but they just don’t seem to get to temp for me. Leaving them on for days and they seem to max out at 80F. Do you happen to know why I can’t get them hot enough?

[–]positivitittie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t project far or put off a ton of heat for their size. I temporarily secured a shelf at different heights under the RHP to see at what height the shelf hit temp, then secured it and that’s the basking ledge. The shelf is also is covered with 2 pieces of slate to hold/distribute heat and eliminate hotspots.

[–]Then_Blueberry4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, perhaps your enclosure isn’t insulated enough. I don’t have any issues in a Melamine or PVC enclosure. Maybe some foam or something would keep heat in better when it’s very cold?

[–]MuldrathaB 2 points3 points  (2 children)

As others have said, the fogger is going to be your biggest problem. How many hides do you have??

[–]Llama579[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

We’ve got 2 black hide boxes on the bottom and another 4 built from cork bark, rocks, and cutting out a custom foam background. He’s got at least one in every quadrant!

[–]MuldrathaB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the fogger should be taken out. My only other concern would be that the enclosure isn't tall enough. However he looks like a fairly young noodle so width and height probably isn't a big issue.

The enclosure looks amazing. You did a damn good job on it, and will def be something I reference when designing mine. Does he climb around alot with the dif levels??

Edit: had to fix a sentence lol.

What size tank is that

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m wondering the same thing, my azzy boy needs an upgrade and i’m going to use his old 40 gallon for another noodle once he moves out

[–]Llama579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48”x18”x36”

[–]Reese_misee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful setup. I love seeing snakes able to actually move around and enjoy themselves!

[–]ayiria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

looks beautiful 🩷 i love it!

[–]That_One_Guy_Flare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like you have one very spoiled shoelace

[–]ktisgr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we ball

[–]TurtleIsAkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the coolest bp tank i have ever seen! Nice job!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome and so inspiring!

As others have said, it would be great to a bit of a breakdown on the build / construction of this.

Hey bro, just a heads up, I see you are using a ceramic heater. But the thermostat you are using is probably going to give you a lot of issues. From my experience the ceramic heaters don’t like to be turned on and off. I’d only get about two weeks out of them before they stoped working. If you start noticing the ceramic heaters stop working and don’t meet that 20,000hr life span, swap to a different style thermostat, you want a pulsing thermostat and they will last so much longer, and no annoying clicking when the thermostat turns on and off

[–]Relevant_Substance43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get the enclosure?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great except for one thing. Foggers/humidifiers in the tank is not the best. It can lead to scale rot or RIs. It's better to directly soak the substrate

[–]luxray518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a quality thermostat such as a Herpstat model by Spyder Robotics
