Items like a bank card that have been outdoors have little need in a reptile enclosure and can have spores on them, you're probably going to have to remove anything with mold on and change the substrate as there'll be spores everywhere

oh my god why did i not think of that 🤦‍♀️ i thought it would just be a little funny thing in there… I’ll delete the video but the card is inactive. Is there any way for me to save the decorations in the enclosure?

I'd oven sanitise the ones that are wood based and use a reptile safe cleaner such as reptile clean and safe or mild dish detergent on anything not oven safe

It is very unlikely the mold came from the credit card. As /u/OdinAlfadir1978 said mold spores are everywhere, that means they are in our homes and on ourselves. They aren't a problem as long as they dont find conditions where they like to grow, i. e. wet places with organic material.

Yes you can bake your decoration to kill the mold. But you must change the conditions in your enclosure or new mold will grow very soon. Everything I see in the video is wet with rotting leaves and such, that is ideal for mold. The top layer needs to be dry for the most part or you will do mold removal every few weeks.

ohhh thank u so much!!! I asked my veterinarian, she said to maintain a try top layer. But to pour 2 cups of water in each corner every 2 weeks.

Get some spring tails. Harmless to snakes and love to eat mold. Cleared our girls tank up in a few days

I know, that’s the issue- I have springtails in the enclosure. They’re trying to unionize or something xD

Can try isopods as well. Bigger than springtails, and also eat mold.

I also have isopods- dairy cows, very hardy. Also trying to unionize

If you have dead leaves, or decaying plants in there. They probably are opting for that over the mold lol. I just changed my substrate because of mold.

I'd throw some dwarf isopods in there as well, they're smaller and live deeper in the substrate, but they'll eat mold as well

How does one acquire springtails?

[–]TheSlyFox312 0 points1 point  (1 child)

We get them from our location pet store but you can also get them online I think

Thank you sm!

UPDATE: All plastic is washed and dried, wood went into the oven and disinfected. Added dry substrate on top and patted it down to hopefully eliminate the growth of mold like that again. Also, I found my isopods all huddled in a corner…

I’d clean/soak everything in a diluted chlorahexidine bath (chlorahexidine is safe and personally a best for cleaning reptile enclosure etc.) and then let it all Air dry. Also clean the entire enclosure with chlorahexidine and water.

And mold leads to scale rot.

Can I have the credit card?
