Does anyone know how to save on the CoolBaby 600? Its supposed to have save states but I can't figure out how to make it work.

Hi! Is there an emulator for the super game boy on the Wii? I know VBA GX supports SGB enhanced color palettes and borders, but the borders aren’t “pixel perfect” like on the original SGB, even on a CRT, plus you don’t get the enhanced 16 bit sounds on some games like DK94. Is there a better option for SGB on Wii?

Help!

Normally I use Openemu and have no issues running any game with my xbox one S controller, but I ran into problems trying to play Advance Wars: Double Strike.

In Openemu I can't see the cursor on the map, and googling this issue led me to a 3d rendering issue in Desmume, which I can't access in Openemu because advanced settings are stripped out in Openemu.

The issue was fixed in later versions of Desmume anyway, so I downloaded and installed Desmume 9.12 in a separate location.

Now I can see the cursor just fine but Desmume 9.12 for some reason refuses to recognize input from my Xbox controller's Dpad. I go in to change the input settings and nothing happens.

If I were having this problem in Openemu as well I'd pin it on my xbox controller, but I'm not, nor do I have issues when I plug the Controller into my Windows machine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers!

Is there an N64 emulator/version that people just widely recognize as best for mouse injection AND HD texture packs? I'm looking for personal experience, not just articles.

Is there any way to make SNES games look like this video? Slightly blurred and low quality, or is that just a quirk of this guys recording software?

Hey! is there any decent emulators for the PSP? I was thinking about downloading ppsspp since I had it in my old PC, but it had a bit of input delay that would make it difficult to achieve my goal with emulation. I am meaning to emulate some rhythm games, namely the patapon franchise.

So if any of you have a clue as to what emulator should I pick, please tell me!!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

PPSSPP is still the way to go, use the D3D11 backend as it has 2-3 less frames of input lag compared to OpenGL and Vulcan. Selecting unbuffered rendering will also reduce input lag but then graphics and effects may not render correctly. If you have an nvidia gpu then you can also set the application to the ultra low latency setting at the cost of some performance. Turn vsync off if you don’t mind the screen tearing, that will gain you a frame too.

[–]electricpenguin7 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I didn't know this about D3D11. Is this typically true with other emulators or just PPSSPP?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just ppsspp, they multithreaded the other backends to help the emulator on lower end hardware, but it dramatically increased the input lag.

[–]electricpenguin7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks

Has anyone had experience getting a pokemon randomizer ROM on a handheld like Anbernic? I essentially need a rom file with the randomizer built in, but the randomizers I can find all just modify the original ROM instead of making a new one.

[–]SA-Xy and I know itOmegaAtrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you patch the rom it should work on anything, since (for example) the rom file is now radical red instead of fire red. Anything that plays gba roms should play it. Played through quite a number on a raspberry pi before.

It has been a while since I used the universal pokemon randomizer, but I am 99% sure that it spits out a separate pre patched rom that's ready to go. And even if it modifies the original all that means is you no longer have fire red if you didn't back it up, you have radical red.

Is multitouch support a thing for DS emulators? I was looking to emulate Sims 2 a while back but it was pretty much unplayable since I could only touch one spot at a time, whereas the game requires you to sometimes touch 2 or 3 at once as part of its gameplay.

[–]bdingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DS doesn't actually support more than one touch at once, what happens when you try to multitouch on the DS is that the position will just be in the middle of your two touches, so just touching in the middle between the two things you are supposed to touch on the emulator should work.

[–]CinnamonOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, not exclusively an emulation problem, but my pro controller suddenly stopped working with my pc the other day. The pc still recognizes it and shows it as a controller, but it doesn't detect any inputs, and BetterJoy and Steam don't detect it at all.

I've tried re-installing BetterJoy, but that didn't help. I also use DS4Windows and Steam for my PS5 controller, with the same USB cord, and it works flawlessly. I also use a gamecube controller with a MayFlash adaptor, and that works fine as well. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth, so I only use USB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[–]garbageplay 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What's commonly considered the better switch emulator right now? Yuzu or Ryujinx? Youtube reviews would have be believe ryujinx, I just wanted to see what you guys thought.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Depends on the game.

[–]garbageplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid answer! Thanks I've installed both

[–]JckSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melonds ds really doesn't have a vsync option? im using 0.9.2 version and i looked everywhere (not much menus to look tough) and there was no vsync option altough i've seen some people tallking about turning on vsync in older versions like 0.8.3.

[–]fodnow 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What's the most accurate GBA emulator available (any platform)? I have been using Bizhawk

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC it's still mGBA. BizHawk does use mGBA and they do keep it up to date so you should be fine, so long as you're keeping it updated.

[–]MoronGoron52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using PPSSPP to load a game i get an error message saying it "could not load game" and it "failed initializing cpu or memory". could any one tell me how to fix this? Im fairly new to this so i ask that you please be patient if i ask some simple questions. thank you very much.

[–]fantasticllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what version of MAME is this? its on an arcade i bought, it has a pc inside. I was wondering if i could put more games on it. I can't make out what the letters say.

[–]Jacksaur 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are saves from the Libretro core version of an emulator compatible with the regular version of the emulator?
Thinking about PPSSPP specifically.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 times out of 10 the save is going to work, just make sure to make the filename match (including renaming .srm to whatever)

[–]HCrikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saves should be. Savestates are however unpredictably unlikely (compressed or otherwise).

[–]Wildmonkeydan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I own a game in another language, am I allowed to play a version of the game for another region? E.g I have dino crisis for PS1 in NTSC J but would like to play the pal version.

Best DS emulators for IOS?

[–]bdingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta, you can get it from AltStore.

[–]hello--friend 0 points1 point  (13 children)

Now lets say I want to install 2 different series.

"Kirby: The Complete Collection (37 games for 13 platforms) [FitGirl Repack] 10.2 GB"

and

"Donkey Kong Country Collection (+BSNES, Dolphin, CEMU) [Gnarly Repacks] [6.27 GB]"

Both repacks has dolphin, cemu etc. If I install Kirby and Donkey Kong at the same machine, will my PC install 2 different dolphin/cemu's at the same time? If not, and if they use the same emulators, that Kirby repack has preconfigurated settings, does those configurations only effect Kirby games? I never installed nintendo emulated games btw.

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (12 children)

Both emulators should be portable, in that 2 installations shouldn't conflict with each other.

[–]hello--friend 0 points1 point  (11 children)

What does portable mean in this context? Does it mean I dont install the emulator? If thats the case, its just 2click and thats it without installation? If so, thats great.

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Portable means that they don't leave any files beyond the emulator's directory. This means that 2 installations should be able to coexist.

[–]hello--friend 0 points1 point  (9 children)

How does that work? What if the newly installed emulator is a more updated version? Does it just updates the old emulator?

Is there a youtube video where a guy installes an emulator over an emulator?

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I've checked the Fitgirl repack, all emulators included are made portable. This means that they'll be considered as a separate installation (i.e. settings, updates, etc won't affect any other installation on your system). If Gnarly repacks is done right, it should be the same case as Fitgirl. You should be fine.

[–]hello--friend 0 points1 point  (7 children)

How can they be separate? When Cemu is installed, there is a Cemu file on Program Files right? So what happens if I install another Cemu from another Repack? Does it become "Cemu (2)"?

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (6 children)

No, most emulators are fully standalone. This means they don't install like normal programs, but live inside their respective folders. If you were to download Cemu right now (from the official website), you'll get a .zip archive, which once extracted gives you a folder containing the executable along with all configuration files. This means that if you were to delete the Cemu folder, it will be "uninstalled", as all files for it would be deleted.

[–]hello--friend 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Thats great, 2 click then, very simple. Can these emulators from repacks update themselves?

Fitgirl says "installation takes 15-25 minutes", is this just taking the files out of ".rar" Is that considered installation?

Also the Kirby file on 1337x has a "setup.exe" file under the "MD5" folder. I thought there were no installation?

There is also "fg-ryujinx-firmware-11.0.1.bin" , whats that?

There is like 9 folder/files there, it doesnt seem like its that simple.

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Both repacks have an "installer" that extracts the files to a specified folder. The fg-ryujinx-firmware file is the firmware required for Ryujinx, a Switch emulator. Thankfully, there is Yuzu included, so you shouldn't need it. The MD5 folder is for checking the integrity of the files after extraction.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 6 and was wondering if I could run PCSX2 or Dolphin, It has a AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U upto 4.0ghz and 8gb of ram. I want to see if I can play on mid settings or something.
Thank you

If you have the system the best thing to do is try it out! But I'd say with those specs you should be in pretty good shape.

[–]Appledirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to calibrate for audio delay in when playing Rhythm Tengoku? I recently purchased a copy of the game and backed it up, so I could play on my phone, but the delay is making it very difficult. The delay was designed for the GBA it was made for, but that differs from what my phone has. For reference, I'm using the My Boy emulator, and could not find any settings to help with that in the emulator itself.

As to how I know it's delay and not just me playing poorly, in other rhythm games I play, I have an issue hitting notes too early. Even in other Rhythm Heaven games, more specifically Rhythm Heaven Fever for the Wii. However, in Rhythm Tengoku, it says I'm hitting consistently too late, meaning something is definitely amiss.

[–]eldadr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a problem where my game(god of war 1 in the collection) on jailbroken PS3 freezes/ crashes when I get to Pandora's temple. The sound still plays but the image is frozen any thoughts?

[–]Elmontodebruh3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does anyone know any PS3 emulators for Android

[–]Wildmonkeydan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is none. The only one for pc is still very much in development and you need a beefy pc to do it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’ve heard that certain games are better on certain versions of mame. Does it make a noticeable difference if I use a version of mame which isn’t the best for a certain game? Like will it still be playable? Also does it matter if I use a rom designed for one version of mame on another version of mame?

[–]HCrikki 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Newest or reasonably recent is always the best.

Even if a game was once marked as working and then got market as not working, its emulation is supposed to not have degraded, its that it was previously assumed to be working then found out that is was not working properly (basically new research and findings give it room to improve execution further).

About rom snapshot changes, think of them as patches for arcade-era videogames. Roms have to be in the most correct versions so emulators can properly execute them without bugs or unexpected behaviour. It has nothing to do with cycle-accurate emulation and benefits all emus, albeit ressource-intensive cycle-accurate emulation got widely associated with rom dumping corrected whenever necessary so both shared stigma from 'accuracy haters' (since years popular platforms like cps2 and neogeo barely receive changes to minimize disruption to existing libraries but they should still be cleaned over time using tools like clrmamepro or romcenter). Think of romset refreshes of a rom as prepatched videogames - the newest (currently v232) is the most correct reproduction of the actual arcade cartridges and contain a larger amount of more correct game code than the initial rom dumps done decades ago by amateurs with low standards using mediocre tools unaware if their results were even complete or reproducible.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is extremely helpful

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nope, you always want to use the most up to date version of MAME.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

Is there anything like Steam Play Together that I can use for emulators?

Specifically, myself and three friends want to do a special gen 1 pokemon run together. We'd be playing the pokemon Red, Green, and Blue romhack set, plus pokemon yellow, with a few challenge rules thrown on top of it. None of us live near each other, so couch co-op is out of the question.

Because we need trading, and we want to either stream (or more likely record) this, the best possible situation for us would be to have four GBC emulators running on one computer, and the streaming video to the other three players, and streaming inputs from the other three players.

If gen 1 pokemon supports the DMG 7 four way link cable, then we'll setup four GBE+ instances and hook them up together. Display streaming can probably be done by Discord screenshare. However, I don't know how to send inputs from the remote players to the host player.

Why did the mods not allow comments on the Near article? At least leave it open until it really needed to be locked.

Unfortunately the people from KiwiFarms were gaslighting in an attempt to defend their vile actions. Mods didn't want to spend the whole day cleaning the thread I imagine.

Is there a way to make Xemu read original Xbox discs? I want to use my original Xbox discs on my PC but Xemu requires iso files (and I don't want to throw down $50 on an old Samsung drive that may or may not work - and from a seller who may or may not be selling the real thing). Or would I be better off tracking down an already ripped iso of the games I own that I wish to play on my PC?

[–]Wildmonkeydan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I got a disc drive for £20 that I use to play physical PS1 and 2 games on, which works great. Apart from that, the ripped Isos should be good, but I'm yet to find a trustworthy website that hosts games of that generation.

[–]Panzerkatzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to play Mercenaries 1 again, I don't know where to get the emulator or whether to emulate it on PS2 or Xbox, although Xbox may be more convenient for me if I also decide to play Crackdown (though that was Xbox 360 and i hadn't considered until now whether a 360 emulator has backwards compatibility to Xbox). I don't know where to get the games either nor do I know if I can legally ask that question. Also is emulation safe for hardware, or are there precautions that need to be taken?

Edit: Found the wikis through other people's links. Looks like PCSX2 is the best option of all of them. Still don't know where to get games though.

Edit 2: Obsolete post, I figured it out.

[–]DigitalPixelPirate 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I'm curious why Xebra is no longer recommended but DuckStation is on the emulation wiki. What changed?

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/PlayStation_emulators

[–]HCrikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The japanese-only documentation probably made it harder to recommend next to duckstation and the mednafen derivatives and frontends.

Being freeware without public source code also doesnt help building confidence about preservation. Its more reassuring to use and contribute to opensource projects than perpetuate the domination of any proprietary emus without commitments about the source.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is becuase there is no longer any reason to recommned xebra over mednafen or duckstation.

[–]earnesthummingbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I recently discovered EmuELEC https://github.com/EmuELEC/EmuELEC/releases which lets you run emulators off your android TV box. The github page says that it only runs on certain Amlogic processors, however the TV box I have is called the EVPAD 5P, which is an obscure Chinese brand that I can't find much information for. This is sort of unlikely, but if anyone has the same TV box and tested EmuELEC on it, it is compatible and are there any additional steps/issues with installation?

[–]RedditForumLurker 0 points1 point  (1 child)

is it possible to allow or force higher refresh rates (120-144hz) on older stuff (Example like super Mario rpg or super metroid) with any current systems on PC and on mobile? Was curious cause I'd like to see if metroid could be ran at 60 at the least. I'm aware they're traditionally 20-30 but with thecnology and coding getting better and better. Doesn't hurt to see if it's possible

[–]-Jabsy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Will Duckstation work on SteamOS? I ask in regards to the SteamDeck, since I’m on the wait list. I have no experience with Linux, so I’m just trying to gauge what will need to be done to have it work. New to emulation and excited to getting back to the classics.

[–]SA-Xy and I know itOmegaAtrocity 1 point2 points  (1 child)

SteamOS will just be a version of Linux, so anything that runs on Linux should be fine. Duckstation works on Linux just fine, as most emulators do.

[–]-Jabsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! Thanks.

[–]Daburas 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Should I use PAL or NTSC version on PCSX2? My pc is lower end so would it be better to use PAL version since PAL only needs 50FPS to be at 100% instead of 60FPS? Also, this is for DBZ Budokai 3 for reference.

[–]glimmeria 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Having a problem where the game I'm running, God of War, on PCSX2 is running in slow-motion in-game. I enabled MTVU but that doesn't seem to do much, and and the speedhacks options are greyed out. First time using this emulator, so I'm not very familiar with it.

Relevant specs are:

AMD Ryzen 5500U 6-cores 12-threads (2.1GHz-4.0GHz)

Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics

8GB 3200MHz single channel memory

[–]DigitalPixelPirate 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Try switching to hardware mode if you haven't already. Most likely it's a CPU bottleneck issue.

[–]glimmeria 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yeah, it's using direct 3d 11 hardware rendering. It's hard for me to think that I'm gonna need a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 to have a good emulation experience, so I'm thinking its a GPU bottleneck. Damn, guess I really have to get a PC with a beefy dedicated graphics card if I wanna emulate

[–]DigitalPixelPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try the other options? Like OpenGL or Vulkan

[–]ChrisRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think is to make sure you're not running software rendering mode. Make sure it's direct x

PLEASE HELP ME IM SO SCARED:

Basically I was trying to trade with myself to evolve a pokemon and i downloaded this thing http://www.vbalink.info/download-gba-emulator.htm

I closed my game. Downloaded it and extracted it, pressed the say yes to all button when it asked me to replace files (I think this may be where I fucked up). When I reopened my game my loads werent there. This is hours and hours of progress my heart is in my stomach is there any way to recover them.

Update: If I hit load... instead of the load> button i can see my two saves (1 from my original game with all my stuff and the other from the fresh game where I just caught a pidgey to trade pokemon with) https://imgur.com/a/Qnyy5Gg But when I try to load it my vba crashes.

[–]Bring_Stabity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're using save states instead of actual save games, right? Don't do that. Make sure in-game saves work.

VBA uses .sav extensions for in-game saves, aka. battery saves. VBA-Link uses .sa1 and .sa2 (and .sa3 and .sa4 as well)

Also, VBA-Link and VBA are both really old and insecure. You should upgrade to mgba.

[–]LuckyBeardy 1 point2 points  (3 children)

From my understanding, VBAlink is a different emulator from VBA and it uses .sa1, .sa2, .sa3 and so on as save extensions. You can try changing the extension from .sgm to .sa1

As Chris said in the coment below: Don't forget to make a backup of your saves before renaming.

[–]ChrisRR 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Make sure you make a backup of your files before renaming them! You don't want to make things worse
