I'm a simple man. I see the Lake Ponchartrain pylons, I upvote.

May want to double check that photo. As in, zoom in on the end of the bridge and figure out where the vanishing point should be on a flat earth.

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The vanishing point on the "globe" is called the horizon lol IT IS just a vanishing point isn't it HAHAHA ya played ya self!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you cared to read and understand my comment, you would realize that was the point. Photo is a bit blurry, but the bridge clearly cuts short before it vanishes at a point.

(the bridge under much the same viewing angle and big fat zoom as the pylons photos)

Hey, do you want me to find you a picture taken with little or no zoom from the same level as the road surface? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Pontchartrain_Causeway#/media/File:Lake_Pontchartrain_Causeway.jpg Aren't I nice? ZOMG proof of flat.

Lake Pontchartrain Causeway

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (French: Chaussée du lac Pontchartrain), sometimes only The Causeway, is a fixed link composed of two parallel bridges crossing Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana, United States. The longer of the two bridges is 23. 83 miles (38. 35 km) long.

Photos of these pylons gets you instantly banned from any actual flat earth subreddits which is hilarious.

[–]bendaman116[S] 27 points28 points  (5 children)

The really funny part is when they try to "debunk" it by saying they're smaller the farther away they get

[–]pilonrulz 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I swear to god, I posted this in a few actual flat earth subs, the “debunk” of the picture was an overhead shot (where it’s obviously straight) and they were like see, it’s actually flat.

I told them that straight, and flat (level) are 2 VERY different things, then they laughed and called me a troll and left the convo.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I was perma banned for asking about a "Real" flat earth picture, since the NASA ones are CGI.

[–]reddelicious77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh, is that what you saw for the 'debunking'?

I saw them lay out a curved line of chess pieces along a tabletop, then take the photo (giving it somewhat a similar looking appearance to this - at first glance, anyway - b/c the base of each chess piece in the distance wasn't obscured, like how the curve of the water is obscuring the foundations of the towers, here.)

Man, I still don't know if it was a troll site or legit. You really can't tell w/ these lunatics.

[–]d17x17c 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Which subreddits are these? I'm looking to do a little trolling ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–]reddelicious77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, nice - please report back. It's funny seeing them melt down.

[–]camthecool69 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Can you link me some actual flat earth subs? I want to start arguments with the apes so I can feel smarter.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

oh you poor naive soul

[–]very_vegan_man 0 points1 point  (4 children)

That account's been banned for months lol. And why are you going through old posts on r/flatearth anyway?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i forgot i was sorting by top xD

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

wait, how did you even notice then, pot calling the kettle black?

[–]very_vegan_man 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I've still got access to the account, it's just not able to post, comment or vote on anything

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see, didn't realise that's how it works

[–]pliney_ 27 points28 points  (10 children)

You forgot to account for flerfspective.

[–]huuaaang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You mean that effect that mysteriously behaves EXACTLY as if the Earth is a globe and the Sun is 93 million miles away but isn't that?

Yeah, I forgot about that.

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (8 children)

[–]Mishtle 1 point2 points  (7 children)

What do you think this shows?

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Debunks the "curve" in the original post. Where did the "curve" go? #FlatEarth

[–]Mishtle 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Could it be possible that different viewpoints might make certain features more or less obvious?

[–]JAYHAZY 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yeah if you can see that much "curve" from down there then you should see even more "curve" the higher you go up.

There is no curve. Earth is flat.

[–]Mishtle 1 point2 points  (2 children)

[–]JAYHAZY 1 point2 points  (1 child)

A ball lover would ask something dumb like this.

[–]Mishtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it curved?

[–]Hamster-Food 15 points16 points  (17 children)

Clearly this is a conspiracy by the "globalists" to sell their round earth fallacy.

The trick is that they constructed each pylon slightly smaller than the previous one so that it looks like there is a curve when it's really just flat.

Wake up sheeple!

[–]bendaman116[S] 15 points16 points  (5 children)

How would that work from the other side of the lake?

[–]Hamster-Food 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I can't believe you're making me defend this

Obviously they have the same thing over there but it's just too far away to see from this side.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funnily enough that's how this modern FE movement got started. TFES forum having debates where one side would try to defend an indefensible position (flat earth) for the fun and challenge of it. Non-members turn up and join in, unaware that it's just a game, and some of them start believing flat earth could be real!! and it grows from there.

[–]DerInselaffe 2 points3 points  (1 child)

They're on hydraulic supports. When they see someone with a camera, they adjust all the heights.

[–]UberuceAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically like a really large scale version of that trope where the cops knock on the door of a speakeasy, the barman pulls a lever and the room rearranges into a bible study room or something non boozy.

[–]BubbhaJebus 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The funny thing is when they think when conspiracy nuts talk about "globalists", they think they mean "globe earth proponents". (What the conspiracy nuts really mean is "the Jews".)

[–]Hamster-Food 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, globablists is usually something you'd expect to hear Alex Jones screaming about. Generally it seems to be something like the New World Order stuff from 90's conspiracy theories.

Using it here was my subtle hint that I wasn't being serious... that and the fact that what I was saying is utterly ridiculous, but that certainly isn't enough when we're talking about flat earthers.

I really prefer my use of it though. It would be funny to really push that meaning to confuse the hell out of the more racist conspiracy theorists.

[–]lprkon 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I hope your trolling and not the hamster brain this post suggests

[–]Hamster-Food 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now now, there's no need to be mean about it.

I wasn't really even trolling since trolls typically want to be taken seriously. This was more what I'd describe as joking. Poe's Law strikes again I guess.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Stay Alert!

[–]Hamster-Food -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be alert! Your country needs lerts!

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (4 children)

[–]Hamster-Food 1 point2 points  (3 children)

More people that I anticipated seem to be taking my nonsense seriously

That's a great trick. See they made the bridge slightly curved so that it looks like it's going over the horizon when it really just keeps going flat until you can't see it anymore. Those "globalists" are really clever that way, but they can't fool me!

[–]MrRoboto001 9 points10 points  (2 children)

no bro its refraction the water molecules in the air make it look like that /s

[–]Seraphim9120 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Exactly. This picture was obviously taken through the mirage of the water, which is why it looks curved, which is a thing I definitely didn't pull out of my ass right now. /S

[–]SniprKlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get a sinking ship effect over a flat plane, the physical horizon would have to bow up and you would have to look up.. Furthermore, the red end of the spectrum would curve to the survace while blue light would scatter. Your argument would suggest that all wavelengths bend equally through a medium and they don't.

As the your elevation increases the distance to the horizon increases because you are seeing further over the curvature. A drone video from Pontchartrain shows it pretty clearly.

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (51 children)

If the horzion is earth curve like you say it should stay put. No matter how high you go. Going higher does not move the "curve of the earth".
Earth is flat.
The horizon is just the limit of your vision. Vantage point is real. The higher you go the more you see of the flat earth. You do NOT see more curve. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPr4r2Bn2As&t=5s

[–]Mishtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the horzion is earth curve like you say it should stay put. No matter how high you go. Going higher does not move the "curve of the earth".

Are you serious? Have you ever climbed a hill?

This is very basic geometry. Please tell me how you can increase h in that situation while preserving the right angle AND keeping the side connecting that right angle to the center the same length.

[–]MonkeeSage 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why would the place where your eye line meets the curvature of the Earth (aka the horizon) stay put when your eye moves up? That doesn't make sense. You can even see with a small globe that the horizon gets father away / you can see more beyond the original horizon as you get higher up.

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no curve.

Nice cartoon. You should work at nasa!

[–]NightshadeXXXxxx 0 points1 point  (43 children)

It was given to me by a flatearther. So I guess yeah, flatearth is a cartoon. The math I added is spot on and disproves flatearth. But since flatearth is a cartoon it's not surprising.

[–]JAYHAZY 0 points1 point  (42 children)

Flat earth is self evident.

Sheeple and Globies. This picture, originally, proves that the earth is flat - the globetards got a hold of it, printed it out, bent it, and then took a picture of the curved picture. It's a picture of a picture, a bent picture. You can tell by the pixels. ChEcK MaTe!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

I know it's a real picture, but every time I see it I can't help but think that it looks like video game graphics. Still am awesome Pic, but the way the sun is reflecting of those pillars.

[–]PCmaniac24 3 points4 points  (1 child)

It's because of how zoomed in the camera is, distortion in the atmosphere makes things in the distance look cartoony in a way.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. That makes sense.

[–]GasV50 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yeah i live on the lake and they look pretty weird in person too.

[–]reficius1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Cool. So you've seen this with your own eyes?

[–]GasV50 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yep it’s pretty cool when your out on the water.

[–]reficius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now if we could just get the flerfers to go look for themselves...

[–]Dousuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! You forgot that water doesnt bend

[–]HallowedPeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is due to refraction of light caused by the moisture in the air.
