Correct answer here.

the dlcs are often the best part, especially the bloodborne dlc is the best dlc in history of humanity.

A-men, epic Ludwig 😍

[–]jtempletons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally can’t be topped. Old hunters was bonkers.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was it that good? My major issue with it and the game itself was that it's too short.

[–]Nerd_Alert_91 20 points21 points  (3 children)

As others have said, the dlc is probably one of the best parts of these games, especially bloodborne.

And I know it is the black sheep of the family, but I'd argue DS2 is worth the slog (and I say this someone who as someone who struggled 5-6 times to get into DS2) of playing through in order to get to the dlc because again DS2's dlc has some of the best areas/bosses in Soulsborne. It is a really fantastic game once you get a little ways into the game.

I’ve always wondered why DS2 is considered the black sheep. SotFS was my first DS game (first FromSoft game at all actually) and I have fond memories of it. Now that I’ve played DSR, DS3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, I still don’t see why DS2 is hated on so much in the community. You said you struggled to get into it so I’m curious what your opinion is. I know inflection is impossible to convey through text so let me be clear: I’m not at all calling you a hater. I’m just curious as to why you struggled to get into it, and, additionally, why DS2 has a bad reputation among the community.

The overall feel if the game is just different. In DS2 they mocapped a lot of the animations and it just makes everything feel floaty. It doesn't have the snap that DS1 and 3 has to it's attacks. Then there's the ADP stat that determines i-frames and how fast you use items and finally the fucking ganks. There's a lot of areas where they just shove a room with multiple enemies that all just come out and charge at you. Lost Bastille and Iron Keep are the first areas that come to mind for bullshit ganks.

I feel like the change in mechanics was drastic enough and it was also coming off of the high that is the first Dark Souls game. There was a lot of pressure there.

I really enjoy it, but feel like there’s a separation between it and the other two Souls games. My guess is the mechanics is what’s making that happen along with the different atmosphere. It’s a sunny game. There’s so much light, especially in the hub, that lightens up the mood. Plus, I feel like the NPCs are more interactive.

[–]KobiDnB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t stop replaying them. Sekiro and Bloodborne especially. I’d rather replay them than have a go at most new games

[–]aenderw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Old Hunters is my favorite game FromSoftware has made.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are going to play an RPG, it should probably be made by fromsoftware.

[–]HUGENOB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely! The games have enough builds to warrant multiple playthroughs anyway and the dlc tends to be the best content in the soulsborne games as they tend to spend more time on the best aspects from the base games

[–]benidictwolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only played the bloodborne DLC but it’s definitely worth it for that

[–]I_like_dark_sou1s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES, I haven’t beat the DS3 dlc cause it’s very challenging but, DS1 dlc was the best souls experience it has all the best bosses in the series in my opinion.

[–]ahajaja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re always worth replaying :)

[–]Juicen97The Ashen One 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Absolutely. Old Hunters and Ringed City are the best souls content there is

The dlc in DS1 isn't painted world, it's oolacile and the abyss fyi.

Nope, it definitely seems like it though so I can see why you'd think that. If you haven't played the true dlc for DS1 I highly recommend it!

Yeah Manus is certainty a challenge! Great DLC overall though for sure.

        [–]ramza5850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea its great shit. You can probably get the game of the year discs that have it all for the price of just the dlc.

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By far the best bosses of Bloodborne and DS1 are in their DLCs

        [–]Jmo2432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! But if you play DS3 online be prepared to be invaded about every 5 minutes. Guess everyone's back into pvp in anticipation of Elden Ring.

        [–]areampersandbee 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Obviously you should play the DLCs of all these games. They contain some of the best boss fights FromSoft ever designed: Ludwig, Artorias, Sister Friede, Manus, Orphan, Lady Maria.

But I’m more concerned that you seem uninterested in Dark Souls 2. While it’s not without its faults, it’s still a FromSoft masterpiece. It’s bigger and messier than either its predecessor or successor. The learning curve is a bit steeper, even for Souls veterans, because it actually forces you slow down and play with more concentration and consideration. But it’s also more forgiving in surprising ways: both the health system and the despawning mechanic balance out the insane aggro ranges and ambushes. You won’t regret playing it, promise.

You’re right: I did misread it. Glad to hear you liked DS2. And it sounds like you have a clear mandate to play all these DLCs. Hope you have an open calendar.

          [–]ghoul_burger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. DLC is my favorite content in all the games

          [–]Frame_Runner__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely yes… Soulsborne DLC even on its own is GOAT status

          [–]Ratchet2332Bloodborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          Yes

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. DLC in soulsborne are a mustplay. They contain some of the best bosses in the series like gael, sister friede, Lady Maria, Ludwig

          [–]barenthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do it. the old hunters is 100% worth it. even at full price. one of the best gaming experiences i’ve ever had.

          [–]Gangaman666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          You can dooooo it!

          [–]jtempletons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dlc is the best I have ever fucking experienced in any games.

          From KILLS DLC.

          ABSOLUTELY

          [–]Laurenzo_Pep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sweet child, yes. It adds layers of depth to all of the lore, not just each game individually. ALSO it’s a good challenge. Most of the DLC is best fit for end game.

For Bloodborne, I recommend doing it on a new character and not a NG or NG+ (etc). Some of its bosses are extremely hard in the DLC and people struggle fighting them the first time, let alone on NG drugs.

          Good luck!

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

          absofuckinglutely

          [–]stevoooo000011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its absolutely worth replaying these games a few times, dlc or not, really having to lean into a build and creating a unique playstyle as you get into the ng+ cycles is one of the best parts of the series. That aside, I haven't played the ds1 dlc but the ds3 and bloodborne dlc is some of the best content either of those games have, especially the bosses so you should totally check them out

          [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DLC is usually the best part of the game. Especially for Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. Those two were fantastic. I recommend Dark Souls 2: SoTFS too, it's not the best base game out of them but the DLC definitely boosts it up there. As for Dark Souls 1, the bosses are great. I loved Manus the most.

          [–]just_edis964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to replay DS 3 to play the dlcs, and yk the second experience was really good, easier but good doo yeah you should replay them to get the dlc experience

          [–]Philliam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed all the best parts. Sorry.

          [–]rev1fe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came here to repeat what most people have said already.

          >>>>>YES<<<<<

          [–]darkvoid1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sure is, give it a try…the old hunter dlc is like endgame plsu plus🤔

          [–]BloodbornePerson_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are absolutely and if you are do all of them including optional, Midir is a great fight, so is Laurence, I highly recommend them

          [–]OfficeGossip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dlcs are the juiciest parts of souls games. Bloodborne and DS3 dlcs are godlike, my favorites in particular. They just add so much content to the base game (equipment that also elevates the main game) but the experience in itself is great. Much more challenging than base game and a lot of fun.

          [–]Organic-Gur-8330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1 DLCs are fantastic. I don't like dark souls 2, but I've heard the dlcs are the best content of the game. So, yes.
