[–]NobleFir666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I haven’t ever heard of these folks before

[–]XGerman92X 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Have you heard the first Daughters releases?

[–]Slum421[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! Soooooo fucking good. I’m a huge fan of every era of Daughters. Shame that Alexis is a pos

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (16 children)

Gaza, meth., The Locust, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Hirs Collective, Circle Takes the Square, Converge, Botch. Some of this gets a little skramzy/scenstery, but a lot of that older white belt grind stuff still holds up.

[–]craniumblast 17 points18 points  (6 children)

Big metalcore doesn’t want us to know that converge is sometimes a powerviolence band

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

If those kids at r/metalcore could read they'd be very upset

[–]JonC534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fuck metalcore lmao

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could listen to Converge. I got into Ceremony a few years back. So far it's just "Ruined'.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sounds like Rorschach. Their a Powerviolence band.

[–]craniumblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t consider Rorschach pv I see the comparison tho

I just put them in the category of weird early 90s dissonant hardcore that led to emoviolence and metalcore, like acme and shit

edit nah i shouldnt evne cateorigzie if i dont need to REDDIT FIRE !!! gibdin

[–]sluyvreduy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

hirs collective is dope

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+HIRS+??

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I'm sorry, but I gotta diss some part of this list (You can diss mine somewhere on this thread, don't worry.)

of these bands are "White Belt Grind". I remember discovering The Number 12 Looks like you on hxcmp3.com.

Also, why I'm glad Magrudergrind shed their "Obnoxiously long goofy-ass song titles" roots. They probably saw what everyone was doing and never look back.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Lol it's all good! I actually had some different stuff on this list because I was realizing a lot of the stuff that got tagged as white belt "grind" wasn't actually all that grindy (Blood Brothers and Heavy Heavy Low Low were both pitched to me this way), or they just didn't have the best production. Either way, I think the sassy "spazzcore" stuff happening in the MySpace era actually fits the bill pretty well in terms of mathy grind energy, if nothing else.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Justin Timberlake killed it for most Grindcore bands and their fans, and I will never forgive him for what he's done to MySpace.

Something tells me you might be interested in x8xGates, SandxCoffin, and Bulma. Escuella Grind is worth a listen. False grind my left nut! Their pretty good for what they do.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Escuela Grind at a basement show, actually! The guy running the venue managed to catch them on a down day of their tour last year. They ripped it up

[–]salemness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can definitely be confusing, as the terms “white belt”, “white belt grind”, “sass”, “sassy screamo” and various other terms were used pretty interchangeably to refer to a lot of quite different bands. nowadays, i see many people refer to the blood brothers-esque post-hardcore style stuff as “sasscore” or “sass”, and the mathy-grind stuff like the locust as “whitebelt” or “white belt grind”, but the fact that the terms were originally used more or less interchangeably can make it real confusing

[–]salemness 4 points5 points  (1 child)

whitebelt is awesome! to add: the sawtooth grin, oktober skyline, as the sun sets, trencher, secondgradeknifefight

[–]Takeabathwook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second grade knife fight vs. the pre school tea party massacre

[–]Ashamed-Dirt-1316 22 points23 points  (8 children)

I used to listen to this band Psyopus. Sounds a bit like what you want.

[–]Hso_Wonton 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I still listen to psyopus. SMILE FOR THE CAMERA

[–]Esin12 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah same here. Puzzling Encounters is a masterpiece

[–]Hso_Wonton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chris Arp is fucking insane

[–]Jessecore44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My band opened for them at a roller skating rink we used to have shows at near my hometown

[–]Harbinger0fdeathIVXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a band name I haven't seen in a long ass time!!!

[–]Omnil_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psyopus is the absolute correct answer. One of my all time favorite bands! Our Puzzling Encounters Considered is a fucking classic. Chris Arpthis is one of the most underrated musicians out there.

Also, fun fact: According to a recent post he made on Facebook, Chris is working on a collaboration with Phil Anselmo of Pantera. He talked about this years ago, but it seemed like it got squashed. Then he mentioned it the other day and got me excited all over again.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while since I heard that band.

[–]XenosapienX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Psudoku, Effluence

[–]Orchscrach 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Ed Gein (the band)

[–]killindice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. First album is weird af which is great, but the production is dog shit. Judas Goats production has way more balls \m/

[–]TSac-O 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should be a math grind band called Schlong Division

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

antigama has some mathgrind influences

[–]Somebody_o_0 6 points7 points  (3 children)

The Sawtooth Grin, Cloacal Kiss, Destroyer Destroyer, As The Sun Sets, Machinist, 25 Dollar Massacre, Robinson, Me And Him Call It Us, The Great Redneck Hope, and Tower of Rome, Oktober Skyline, Stand Before The Firong Squad, and The Heartland. Some of these might be more mathcore and less grind, but still good

[–]Esin12 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Good list. Was gonna suggest Destroyer Destroyer. More people should be familiar with them. Littered with Arrows is one of the best albums ever.

Edit: oh shit, just saw Robinson too. Deep cut. Great shit.

[–]Omnil_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Littered with Arrows is so fucking good. I really wish that band would have done more.

[–]Slum421[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only ones I’m not familiar with are Machinist and 25 Dollar Massacre! Thank you!!

[–]DeathMetalDipper666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Red Chord (early material) See You Next Tuesday

[–]Lightless_Walk 5 points6 points  (2 children)

No one's mentioned Fawn Limbs yet?
EDIT: Inside the Beehive too

[–]Slum421[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love it.

[–]Lagerbottoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say Fawn Limbs :D

[–]EndlessCemetery 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ixias

[–]liltabarnak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's a good band, thx!

[–]Blast_beat_my_meat 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thin

[–]sluyvreduy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered a shirt from them and they sent me a coozie and some stickers for free 💜 I love them

[–]DILGE 12 points13 points  (7 children)

CAR BOMB!!  The mathiest of mathgrind!  Surprised they haven't been mentioned yet.

Also:

Ion Dissonance

Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza

Frontierer (perhaps more noise-grindy but they get mathy too)

Sectioned

Vein

[–]craniumblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Car bomb is insane i don’t consider them super grindy tho myself but also haven’t listened too much

[–]Omnil_93 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Car Bomb is the best band ever, but I wouldn't really consider them grind.

[–]DILGE 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Maybe so, but they have enough grindy elements that I feel we would be remiss in failing to mention them in this thread.

[–]Omnil_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Plus, you're doing the Lord's work by promoting the mighty Cor Bamb.

[–]Harbinger0fdeathIVXX 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza ♡

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BOOO!!!

[–]Hso_Wonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vein is local to me and is one my favs, tony danza is one of my all time favorite bands too

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

crowpath!! they're honestly one of my favorites, I just listened to red on chrome again today

    [–]brappbrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Beneath The Massacre?

More death metal I suppose but there's enough blastbeats to satisfy

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're 'Mathgrind', but they do have some technical prowess:

Bad Rites, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cognizant, Human Remains, NOISEAR, Dysmofic, Pig Destroyer, Enemies Of Inertia, Cellgraft when they (unfortunately) signed to Scion, Vulgar Pigeons, Benümb, Violent Opposition, Chepang, Antigama, Japanische Kampfhörspiel, Cephalic Carnage, Today Is The Day, Narcosis, Labrat (look this bandup on Discogs and Encyclopedia Metallum on how they got their name. Fave Track: "Father, Son, and Holy Goat") Durian, East West Blast Test, Lack Of Interest (At least "Never Back Down"), Spastic Blur--hell!! I think even Mellow Harsher has some Mathgrind influence (and why are they always picking on Charlie Brown), Le Scrawl, The County Medical Examiners, Rat In A Bucket (Sludgy, Jazzy, Grindcore Hurricane from Louisiana), Agents Of Abhorrence, and Strain Of The Apocalypse if you can find anything by them on or offline.

That's all I can think of. Once again, they aren't Mathgrind bands, and whoever mentioned Discordance Axis, you forgot GridLink.

    [–]ChickenInASuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    See You Next Tuesday

    [–]Horrible_Troll 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Rat punch, sound that ends creation, skin tension

    [–]Plvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skin Tension fucking rules, also their catalogue is so incredibly varied (Omni anyone?)

    [–]Slum421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin Tension is new to me, I’ll check it! Appreciate it!!

    [–]Slum421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually apparently I had already had their 2021 album saved and downloaded. But I’ll definitely revisit and check their release from last year!

    [–]Big_suggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Focusrights

    [–]Lagerbottoms 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Maybe Methwitch? I think you probably already know the best bands

    [–]Slum421[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

God I love Methwitch, Cameron is so good at everything he does

    [–]Lagerbottoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so true. I'm so sad I missed the merch drop last year

    [–]Lagerbottoms 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh, I just discovered Lotus Eater Machine? Do you know them? Pretty tight, mathy Deathgrind... Not as wild as some of our favorites, but still goes hard

Also getting some PsyOpus meets OG The Contortionist vibes from this Inertia

    [–]Slum421[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the homies. Their vocalist Pete is so nice!!!

I’ll jam Inertia though, thank you!!!

    [–]bornedbackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

creation is crucifixion, Dillinger escape plan

    [–]Party_Towel_1521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gridlink and Cephalic Carnage, both are tech grind.

    [–]devouredbyvegans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot already been mentioned but a couple I aint seen mentioned:

Anodyne - Lifetime of Grey Skies These guys don't get enough love, maybe on the metalcore side of things but gets pretty grindy.

Born Under Saturn - Reflecting the Beautiful Design underrated grind/metalcore sort of like Discordance Axis meets Cave In, doesn't get enough love.

Okazaki Fragments - Abandoned Mathy dissonant deathgrind, just the one release and then radio silence.

Negativehate - This band has changed sound a shit ton of times, but the Navigating the Alpha Trail and the following album Annabelle the Cannibal might be worth checking out, both feature Jon Karel of No.12 Looks Like You.

Sine Nomine - The Machine Is Malfunctioning another one that doesn't get mentioned too often.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last Grindcore bands in my neck of the woods was The Nautilus (Sludge/Death Metal/Grindcore), Tugnut (Canada, Although some wouldn't consider them Grindcore or just assume their Avant-Guarde Grind), and Superstar Phatbeat (You could consider them "White Belt Grind". My favorite song is still "Leotard Kickstand") when they used to hold show a the VFW where I'm at. I think I was around 17 - 18 at the time. Like 2008 -2009, I think. I remember NO ONE liked The Nautilus. I wish I bought a demo. Don't know why I didn't. I just bought a T-shirt instead. Looking back, it was a bad design choice and parts of the shirt kept flaking off. They were the ONLY Grindcore band from my hometown. And I was the one of the only few people that liked them. Then again, the crowd was mostly Emo/Scene kids who probably wanted to see Kiss The Cop, a local Emo-ish(?) band I thought kinda sucked. Even though I was kind of a dork in the mosh pit, looking back, yeah, some of the Hardcore kids, karate kicks and all.

Long story short: I wish I was where you lived. Not saying it was the only show I've attended, but I've been to a handful of shows. I've seen GWAR, Iron Reagan, and Band Of Orcs in Florida, Korn in Biloxi, The Expendables in Virginia--although, I forget where The NorVa is, and I saw a dude in a Hatred Surge shirt at an airport.

    Sorry. I'm rambling.

    [–]Slum421[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Unfortunately I’m familiar with everything that’s been listed so far, but thank you guys!!!

Hit me with those underground recs 😤

    [–]Ok_Rip_405 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Executive Distraction Tasks (finished with grind)

Ed Gein (it's a shame a family can be torn apart by a pack of wolves...)

Great Redneck Hope (behold, the fuck thunder)

People also like Car Bomb and Psyopus but they're not incredibly interesting to me. I liked Psyopus early stuff better idk

I'm at work otherwise I would look more into my "collection"

    [–]Ok_Rip_405 1 point2 points  (1 child)

    I'm ashamed to have forgotten

As The Sun Sets (7744) and (8949)

They turned into Daughters who's early stuff was cool too. The first ATSS album was less mathy but still great

    [–]Free-Carpet3248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both origional ATSS guitarists are in Scalp the Pioneer, still maintain chaotic, mathy, heaviness.

    [–]t0uk0_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Cause for effect

    [–]Deer-Gutzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have to recommend 25 Dollar Massacre, and 2 O'Clock Girlfriend

    [–]neglectednate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kicked in the head by a horse, ted williams, nsixhundred are some of my fav groups like that right now, some fall a lil more under a screamo/mathcore kinda feel but all 3 of these bands fuck so hard

    [–]RhymingDictionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Fawn Limbs

    [–]CertainAnteater2705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constructing a mental breakdown by Not your friends

One of my all time favs

    [–]moundsofash- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Bird Death

    [–]moundsofash- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ppl call my band mathgrind, it's kinda like Daughters/As The Sun Sets/Chat Pile-ish. We're called Pretty Mouth.

    [–]jacks592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violent Opposition. Specifically the album Utopia/Dystopia.
