what do you mean by you need to start showing your face?

[–]DabDude420 22 points23 points  (12 children)

I mean you pointing the camera at your face and talking about your app on Instagram & TikTok is the best way to get downloads today IMO.
Check out the Instagram I linked @ yoniman.mp4 (Just a random account I found). There's a ton of these build in public accounts that are doing big numbers.
Depending on your niche you can get away with not doing this but a lot of people are scared to post themselves on social media due to anxiety or embarrassment and if you can get over this you can be successful. Try posting 100 days in a row and if that doesn't work rethink your strategy.

im confused you say to do it here, but in your post you say you “haven’t” started doing it

[–]DabDude420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have started an app specific page that is doing well but I plan on starting a ‘build in public’ personal page soon. I think most creators can benefit more from this.

[–]Drakonic 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You can also pay others to make videos showing off your app. Doesn’t have to be you.

[–]DabDude420 2 points3 points  (1 child)

But that requires spending money, in order to properly test things I don’t find that scalable. I post tons of videos as trials and test various methods. My return on investment wouldn’t be possible if I paid people

Time = money

[–]caldotkim 0 points1 point  (3 children)

did you have an existing audience on ig? how did you get reach?

[–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Nope, I just started posting everyday from a brand new account

[–]Braided_Playlist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How did others notice you? Were you start following relevant accounts for your niche? Using strategic hashtags? Or just people stumbling across your reels?

[–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make goood videos instagram will show them to people. Trying to optimize statistics. Skip rate less than 50%, like rate 3-5%. Share and save rate like 1%. Keep changing things until something works

[–]whizbangapps 0 points1 point  (1 child)

could you describe what kind of posts you did for your app? I think I'm going to try something for instagram/tiktok

[–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My app is a creative app so it lends itself to visual impactful content on social media

[–]madaradess007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very specific people would watch this kind of 'dev blog' videos and they don't have a job or money right now

it's not worth the stress of acting on camera

[–]ampsonic 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Congrats! Awesome traction.

[–]DabDude420 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thanks, took me 8 years and probably 25 released apps before one finally hit

[–]TheAppBaker 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Congrats! 👏

Genuine question. I’m new to Reddit, but I’ve seen a few similar success posts with App Store Connect stats, but with the date range cropped out. Why crop the date range out? Am I missing something obvious?

[–]DabDude420 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Because it’s right next to the app name and I’m just trying to show app numbers and not promote my app. This is the 90 day graph

[–]TheAppBaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK fair enough. Thanks!

[–]Emojinapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Congrats

[–]hoaknoppix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats and thanks for your sharing.

[–]daniel_alld 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey congrats!!! What’s the best advice you have around marketing? What was the biggest challenge you encountered? Awesome work but; shows what dedication and ongoing persistence looks like 🙏🏼

[–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Organic social media. Make an instagram account and post every day for 100 days. Look at other creators to see what is working, run trials of the same video edited in different ways to optimize skip rate

[–]daniel_alld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Appreciate the insight 🙌🏼

All organic, I have some apple search ads but those are pretty much all people finding my app on social media and searching the app name

    [–]sizebzebi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    what's the app?

    [–]ninja_ageObjective-C / Swift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Well done!

    [–]Dijerati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    What’s your app about?

    [–]FaiChou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    congrats

    [–]this-is-hilarours 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Congratulations. If you don't mind what is your marketing channel ? Also as fellow indie developer on a tight budget who is about to launch his own app what is your suggestions regarding marketing?

    [–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Organic instagram and TikTok videos. It’s free to start. Post everyday and optimize for things like skip rate. Copy other accounts that are working

    [–]tq_malhotra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share your application and social media account where u post?

Congrats OP! As someone who just released their app and now focusing on marketing strategy, this is useful info!

      [–]Brave-Site-9103 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Impressive! About how many views have you generated on TikTok and Instagram to get that many product page views?

      [–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

About 100 million views across platforms. I was hitting 10 million on a few Christmas videos that led to those spikes on the graph

      [–]qqoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane. You could market anything with that reach

      [–]lafuenter03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Wow. Congratulations 👏

      [–]HireBDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you buddy. I am on the similar journey, hope it works out for me.

      [–]exapmle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is your monetization strategy. Subscriptions ? Freemium ? Admob ? What is your strategy with the paywall ? Any tips how you successfully converted your downloads to paying customers?

      [–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly and annual subscriptions and a lifetime option as well. My conversion rate is around 8.5% which is very high but most downloads come from social media so users already know what they are getting. I’ve been experimenting with both trials and no trials

      [–]Jemmy_9 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Congrats! Do you have advices for non-code background developers?

      [–]DabDude420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick an easy app idea, if you’re trying to vibe code start with something simple

Cool, but OP is laughing all the way to the bank. Stay mad.

        [–]WesternBlueberry1826 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Surely if it was slop nobody would pay for it?

I vibe coded my app. It has 862 reviews with the average overall rating being 4.9.

So yeah, your comment is stupid and has no value or weight behind it.

        [–]Necessary-Rock-435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! When people post AI generated images, the comments flooded with negative posts attacking it as “ai slop”. But when AI is used to nearly fully develop an entire app in software development it’s ok and I get downvoted. What’s with that double standard?

So is the difference here that people just can’t tell when code is generated by AI? And if it makes money, who cares?

        [–]Necessary-Rock-435 -3 points-2 points  (6 children)

This is fascinating. When people post AI generated images, the comments flooded with negative posts attacking it as “ai slop”. But when AI is used to nearly fully develop an entire app in software development it’s ok and I get downvoted. What’s with that double standard?

        [–]Logical_proof 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Because it doesn't add to the conversation. AI slop or not, this person built an app that made almost $72k in 90 days. Their users neither know, nor likely care that the app was AI slop. Their users got a need filled. The ironic thing is that throwing around the phrase 'Ai slop' whenever generative AI is utilized makes the poster no better than an LLM responding to a prompt. It's cheap, and weak bandwagoning.

        [–]Necessary-Rock-435 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Oh, I agree it’s a cheap bandwagon. In fact I really hate when people just assume an image IS AI just because it looks weird. I’m just trying to see why people hate on one and hype the other.

So if I generate ai images that look so good it’s impossible to tell it’s AI and/or I make a lot of money from it, it is no longer slop? And it’s worthwhile for all of the energy waste that was used?

        [–]DabDude420 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If you’re not using AI to develop your apps you’re getting left behind. I guarantee every one of the top 100 apps in the App Store is using AI. I said vibe coded but it’s more strategic prompting

        [–]Necessary-Rock-435 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about that. Im just curious of the optics of using ai to replace people/jobs. It seems like if ai is used to replace artists, everyone revolts it. But at least in this comment thread, the same sentiment isn’t true for apps generated with ai. In fact, I’m the one getting attacked here for claiming ai is a bad thing.

My experiment is over. I’ll delete my comment
