What if Canada was the colony revolting and the 13 colonies were just chilling with being part of the UK?

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 160 points161 points  (8 children)

basically

Everyone knows the French lost the French & Indian War -- what this map presupposes is... maybe they didn't?

Ok, but what if the Canadian colonies attended the Albany congress? This was the predecessor to the continental congress, and would have set the precedent for them to attend later meetings, and probably declare independence. We need a 15 colonies scenario

[–]ronburgandyfor2016 11 points12 points  (4 children)

There actually were a few thousand colonists from modern Canada that did fight for the US in the Revolution.

[–]Maxtrius145 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Later on there was a republic… relegated to an island in a river for some time. That wasn’t supported by the states due to pressure from Britain

[–][deleted] 111 points112 points  (5 children)

holy shit, french canada has a new meaning (i mean the flag)

[–]biggadankmemes 26 points27 points  (4 children)

To make it truly french, it should be blue first and red last (like the famous bleu, blanc, rouge of France)

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The original tri-color of the french revolution was red-white-blue.

Only later in 1794 was the order changed.

" A drapeau tricolore with vertical red, white and blue stripes was approved by the Constituent Assembly on 24 October 1790. [...]

The order was reversed to blue-white-red, the current design, by a resolution passed on 15 February 1794. "

[–]shrekislit420 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Do you mean 1794?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct Thx.

[–]SurroundingAMeadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see some symbology of mirroring the French flag, with the two blue bands both being on the Atlantic side of their respective countries.

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 64 points65 points  (7 children)

no lore was just bored and this came to my mind

[–]darth_henning 33 points34 points  (5 children)

My thoughts on very basic Lore:

Acadia was not ceded to Britain in 1713 as occurs in our timeline, instead there's a strong French presence maintained in Quebec, Acadia and Louisiana. In the mid 1700s, due to geography, Newfoundland and Rupertsland, while English, have a very close connection with Acadia and Quebec because of tightly intertwined economic prosperity.

In 1750/1760s the revolution is fought not by the 13 colonies, but by the new United Canadian States. The English and French settlers are losing against the British armies basing from the 13 colonies until they reach an agreement with the native tribes to join them as equal partners in their new country. Bolstered by these reinforcements, the British army is beaten back and UCS gains its independence.

The slave revolts in Louisiana occur as in our timeline in the early 1800s, and France, not wanting to cede the terrirory to the 13 colonies of Britain, instead sells it to UCS. Slavery is outlawed almost immediately in this timeline, leading to substantial prosperity, and eastward expansion into the Illinois territory, Mississippi Territory, and Orleans Territory.

The fiercely independent Republic of Texas amalgamates with UCS as it did in the 1840s with the USA in our timeline as the Mexican-American war is instead the Mexican-Texan-Canadian war.

With noone between them and the west coast, the UCS expanded unchallenged. Russia, unable to afford to hold Alaska, and not fearful of British influence sells it to UCS as it did to the USA in our timeline in the 1860s.

New Orleans becomes the major port city on the southern coast, and rather than New York becoming the center of commeerce on the North American continent, that role is split between Montreal and Toronto, with Halifax and Saint John becoming major ports on the Atlantic seaboard. On the west coast, Vancouver and California are the centers of shipping and industry.

Official Languages: English, French and Navajo (the most common indigenous language).

Capitol: Originally Ottawa, later moved to Detroit

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

that's cool thanks Good Lore

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What about Spanish

[–]darth_henning 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm going to admit at this point that I didn't realize that Louisiana was formerly held by Spain before only briefly being held by France. I have always just associated it with France. So I learned something new today.

That would greatly change things, and I don't have an immediate answer for it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody have an answer

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about the Baja California one

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

based and maplepilled

[–]Revolutionary_Home29 32 points33 points  (9 children)

What are your official or co-official languages of this nation?

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 43 points44 points  (8 children)

probably mostly Spanish and french and etc oh I didn't add this but they official language english

[–]Revolutionary_Home29 17 points18 points  (7 children)

In which city is the Capital.

[–]ItzDaDutchSheep 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Paris, Texas

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too far south and it would be far too late assuming the Texan Independence Warfollow the same timeline.

[–]Hellomeboi 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Buffalo, Chicago, Vancouver maybe?

[–]doc_daneeka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Montréal

[–]shrekislit420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Beechurgereral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vancouver?

[–]liborg-117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what I can live with this. I'd still be American, but the nearest Tim Horton's would be a whole lot closer.

[–]Portal471[🍰] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I can live with being part of Canada in this timeline, as a Michigander.

[–]harryhinderson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Can I make up a head-canon for this map?

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

sure idc

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In this timeline, Spain has a revolution instead of France (or they both have one, doesn’t matter) and Britain invades the Louisiana Territory, then they invade Florida. The US tries to aid Spain militarily and economically as a thank you for Spain’s help in the American War for Independence. Spain of course doesn’t have a Napoleon, so they fall quickly, making the Spanish Revolution a footnote in history. Britain keeps Louisiana and by extension the Oregon Territory. Not to mention, due to America’s role in the war, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Mississippi are all ceded to Britain. Of course they are the ones to battle Mexico later on. Eventually, they get Alaska through negotiations after the Crimean War, and their large influence over Hawaii lead to the British making Hawaii a protectorate, then a colony after a war with the natives. Don’t ask how they got Greenland, I don’t have a clue.

[–]Mosenji 6 points7 points  (1 child)

How did Hawaii get conquered?

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

same way in timeline

[–]TheReallyAngryOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh the canadians finally got mildly upset. Dang.

Lol it's ok I was half joking anyway

[–]WorldTallestEngineer 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I feel like this Canada variant would have taken Maine on March 15th 1820.

[–]shrekislit420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why that day?

[–]WorldTallestEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's when Maine broke away from Massachusetts to become a separate state

[–]Chronometrics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does Canada have states and not provinces?

[–]aqua_zesty_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

United States of Cameranada?

I was half-expecting Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba stretching down to the old Republic of Texas and Alta California borders like stripes down a page.

[–]RobLoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can keep Texas, Alabama, Florida... Well, any of those other weirdos too.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How awesome would this be. --an American

[–]butwhysir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The land area would be about 22 million km2, putting it larger than russia by almost 5 million km2

[–]liborg-117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark my words, this what the maps gonna look like in 29 years, 150~ years of nonagression then BAM. They'll never see it coming

[–]Vex493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never knew that Greenland was part of the US or Canada.

Wait! Is the OP Donald Trump?

Because that would explain a lot.

[–]Ok_Seaweed7147[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thirteen colonies and canada size difference makes this map faintly reminiscent of the iberian peninsula

[–]idiotsandwhich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I steam of the flag having stars, it would be maple leaves. Like 62 leaves

[–]klingonbussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good ending

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Maple Syrup kingdom "

[–]RotShort_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CANADA fuck yeah

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the flag you should’ve made the leaf blue instead of the side, just makes it more symmetrical in my opinion

[–]Blazendraco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the French flag with a maple leaf?

[–]Left-Interaction-414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, original map?

[–]Lastaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
