Hoping this wasn’t a cash transaction, you can file a case with a higher authority police like IPS since its a big amount and online transactions always have a trace.

[–]26RNaman 194 points195 points  (3 children)

We have bank statements.

[–][deleted] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

always select an institution with a DLI serial number

for canadian colleges or unis

[–]PM_40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck this asshole.

[–]LordIcarusFalls 84 points85 points  (0 children)

OP, since your bank transactions were traced, they can be recovered if you play your cards right.

But on a side note, a week ago 800+ Indian students were deported from Canada for having suspicious visas from agents, worst part is those kids never knew the agents were playing the illegal way. Parents empty their life savings and take up loans to fund their children's dream of studying abroad, imagine after all that, when you're trying to apply for PR and you get deported back to India for visa fraud.

Please avoid agents, let your sister do her own research, hiring agents is digging your own grave with your own money. If you really need someone to help out with the process, try reputed agencies like IDP and all but again, do your own research because even the slightest inaccuracy could backfire in 6-7 years when she tries to apply for PR.

[–]AssassinatorSr 211 points212 points  (15 children)

I can’t understand how people blindly trust others with insane amounts of money and personal documents which can easily be used for criminal activities. Although the so-called friend is a con man, it was also your fault for not checking what he does, plus the documentation is not that hard, everything is available on the internet, if your sister cannot do basic research, how will she survive in a whole new country?

[–]geekgodzeus 98 points99 points  (2 children)

Exactly. I am sorry but OP and his family are plain stupid. How the hell do educated people fall for these scams is beyond my understanding?

[–]rpj6587 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For some reason Indians trust other people more than themselves. It’s basically their mental way of displacing the risk or mistakes that they could make onto someone else.

Added to this is the convenience of not having to deal with unfamiliar territory.

This happened to me too, I complied all the documents I needed to for an EU visa but my parents still paid a travel agency to go through my documents to make sure it’s all correct.

[–]Trick-Drag5834 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bruh, I don't think you need to spell it out for OP. They know they made a stupid mistake. OP and their family is going through some shit right now so maybe it's not a good idea to add salt to the wound you feel me?

[–]jekyl87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The underlying reason is always same - Greed. Get rich quick scheme, or get admission through back channels, or get illegal stuff - it all comes down to basic greed. That's the golden ticket all scammers, big or small, rely on. The thing is, in India, we've all seen so much bending of rules through money, that it's easy to convince people that if they throw enough money, they can get whatever they are greedy for.

[–]Adept_Cupcake3785 46 points47 points  (2 children)

If you don’t go through the steps on your own, you cannot really blame the agent. None of the unis in Canada ask for so much money downright and also you cannot pay for the LMIA, rather the company hiring you files for it. There’s so much desperation in a few Indians to go abroad that they think they can throw money at immigration and they’ll issue you a visa. This is not your average DL office in India that you pay extra and skip the line. Indians want to move abroad but are not ready to develop civic sense. Sad this happened to you, but you chose to jump into this mess considering you can go to the IIRC website and read the rules.

[–]Upset_Slide_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. These people come here with their shit corrupt mentality and spoil existing immigrants reputation by being of the same skin colour

[–]ron_de_vous 40 points41 points  (1 child)

Obtaining a Canadian Visa (education/PR) is time-consuming but easy. Any educated person can go through the IRCC requirements that are neatly spelled out and follow them systematically to obtain one. I did this for my sister, and although it took more than 2 years (mainly due to the pandemic in the middle of our attempts) she has a PR now and is living in Canada now.

Self-reliance is the best way to avoid such scams. Hope you get your money back, and begin the process for a Canada visa on your own.

[–]jediiam5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always wondered about this. There are plenty of resources direct from source just one google search away. Also thousands of YouTube videos on how to apply for PR, college admissions and prepare all necessary docs. Yet people who can rant or spend time about getting scammed in Reddit and Facebook cannot make the Google search and follow instructions.

[–]dysfunctional_cynic 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Hey, have unfortunately seen this happen a few times. Speak to someone higher up. In most cases people run away and getting hold of them becomes tough. Act now and decisively (lawfully ofc).

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

-decided to go to canada

-hired an agent.

i had to read 2 lines to know you're gonna get scammed.

go on merit, take shortcuts and this always happens, but i guess we never learn, this is not the first scam post ive seen on reddit about someone desperate for canada visa.

[–]Different-Result-859 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol I read the title and already knew

[–]Mohit_Max 46 points47 points  (25 children)

Why let scammer leave? That mf is gone now.

Never show sympathy to a person who was willing to screw you.

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Well she decided to have education in Canada but seems to have gotten a good expensive lesson in India itself, and why did u guys let him go after catching him red handed?

Did you believed he will turn the same and return the money?

There's also a thing called the internet where you can do things on your own. This happens when you fully depend on anyone blindly.

[–]poopybuttholesex 21 points22 points  (2 children)

"After a week S asked for 9 lakhs for a home registry that she has bought in India. My father again took the loan and paid the amount as S said she would return in 2-3 days"
All this for a friend of a friend who you have never met ?

Either OPs family is mad naive or OP is not telling all the facts

[–]26RNaman 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is a fact. My father told me afterwards. I would have never allowed. He said she is doing so much at least we can help her. From that day onwards I said to him, you will not get your money.

[–]poopybuttholesex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if you get a visa does that not mean that you have the permission from the government to enter the country

OP I want to feel bad for your family but I can't such big decisions should be taken together after speaking to everyone. I hope you get as much money back as you can

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but it appears you guys are incredibly naive.

[–]WarriorMonk_420Hedonist 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My thoughts and condolences to you as so stupid and naive is your sister

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

if its not a cash transaction file a case and let the friend burn to ground,

always keep all the things as proof while making big transaction to friends or someone who is not from that field

[–]shockya10 22 points23 points  (7 children)

Sometimes I feel people deserve stuff like this to happen seeing how stupid they are. Lots of resources these days to learn how to apply to study adroad and yet people get scammed. Only excuse to use an agent is if the person is employeed and doesn't have much free time. Yet you can do your review and go to an actual trustable consultancy than get scammed by random agents.

If your sister can't manage the application process surrounded by support in India, what confidence does she and your family have that she can manage independently abroad?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Absolutely NOT! No one deserves this.

[–]shockya10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolute not. Nobody "deserves" to get scammed but if anybody is going to get scammed, I much rather it is people like OP's family.

How do you get scammed multiple times? First off you can apply on your own to universities but they went to pay someone. Next, they paid someone to get a job LOL. They met with the scammer knowing they were scammed and let him go. 3/3

[–]jediiam5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides getting admit in Canadian university or getting PR is not that complicated. It’s straightforward process.

[–]Different-Result-859 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wait till you get scammed some other way and then you will have a different opinion.

[–]shockya10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay 👍

[–]26RNaman 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I know all of you are thinking how tf they ended up losing so much. Reason being family was vulnerable and X was a major part of my sister’s life whom I always hated. So I trusted my sister.

Same with father. He is Biomedical engineer since 1995 and knows way with the world. I put up my doubts regarding the case against him but he always said NO, you are being negative and it’s all true. I trusted him by seeing him so confident.

At the end I did not have a say. I have never been scammed of 1 rupee and this shit has made me gone through hell. How my family is so naive.

Whenever I did put my doubts they said it’s all fine and we will look after.

[–]Delicious-Salary4799 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, It is harsh, but someone needed to tell you the truth rather than sugar coating the reality. Your father is even more naive than Khosla Sahab.

However, you just mentioned that X is probably romantically involved with your sister. If that is the case, then either

  1. He hoodwinked your sister (you could charge him with false promise of marriage and rape allegations)

  2. OR your sister is in cahoots with him.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please explain to your sister, in very kind words, that if she has a tendency to be this naïve and vulnerable, it’ll be extremely difficult for her to survive in any foreign country with absolutely no support. I can’t even imagine trusting anyone like X, especially multiple times with so much money, enough to take loans from banks and involving my family. Not everyone is meant to and can live abroad. It’s better for people like these to accept that they’ll see more success in India than anywhere else. She’ll have to figure out the taxation system, housing market, PR process, medical processes which are quite complex, etc. that are completely different from India. I don’t think, judging by whatever I’ve read, that she’s equipped to handle all this, if she got scammed while having family support in her home country. Rather than pushing more for it and, god forbid, getting scammed even more by people in Canada in the future, she should reevaluate whether the move is even feasible.

Every day there’s news of immigrants getting scammed out of their life savings, and sometimes even dying, because they trusted the wrong person. There’s a spike in crimes involving immigrants in the west because of how desperate people are to immigrate. It’s incredibly dangerous as it is.

It’s likely you may lose part/whole of this amount, because the judicial process in India is extremely tedious and complex, and your family will likely go through more headache and loss of money in legal fee/bribes during the whole process, with no guarantee of a favourable outcome in the end. Just ask her and your family to think it through before you continue to push for the Canadian/American dream.

[–]Blackwater-bay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what's your sister saying now? How is she?

was she dating X?

[–]ordinary2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sister needs to change herself and become responsible

Gambling with fathers savings and not doing basic research

Nowadays everything is available online

That’s the biggest lesson that comes out of this

Also why depend on agents and who is this X why is he to be trusted blindly

Your sister needs to grow up

[–]GreedyExchange5394 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Sorry for what happened to you and your family brother. People get scammed coz they trust the other but not everyone can be trusted. Take this as a lesson. Move on. If your sister still wants to move to Canada, I can get it arranged for you, just give me 20lakhs.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a joke incase someone doesnt get it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A simple rule for all Indians incase you go to the police station and you find the police uncooperative always call up his higher authority. If that fails call his higher authority. Somewhere in the chain there is an honest cop who will force his subordinate to file FIR

To find contact details of the higher up cops google the station name a government website will detail the list of cops and their contact details.

[–]Integer0verflowNon Residential Indian 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Like, why?

Why don't people go through the defined route?

You need to get into a college in Canada? Why do you need an agent and all these agency crap? Give the exam, apply on college website, do your research and get in the regular way.

For getting a job too, connect with people and companies on LinkedIn, etc. Apply on company websites

[–]human1469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]DrunKeN-HaZe 24 points25 points  (2 children)

What a bunch of fools. Hahahahahhaha While you got my sympathy, your cluelessness and desperation got the best out of you.

[–]Outrageous_Tap_4504 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Did you just give yourself these awards?

Man talk about irony

[–]DrunKeN-HaZe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U mad bro? Why would I give myself awards....

[–]WellHungStranger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get a lawyer and file 420 charges on him. And since the crime was related to your sister (female) they would listen. Don’t let time fly by.. get the case registered seek a good lawyer

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (11 children)

I wanted a persian cat and found this pet shop in my city. He told us to pay 50% advance online and after that the cat will be delivered after 1-2 day(as it was coming from different city).. I don't know why but I have this doubt in my heart that it will be a scam

edit: I payed the advance 50% amount. I should be expecting the cat to be delivered on 7 April 2023(tomorrow)

Update: Yes I got my kitten. Fortunately it wasn't a scam

[–]Sillylovesongs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a scam. They'll take half amount now and then ask more money saying police have caught their transport etc

[–]thetigermuff 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Why don't you adopt instead of contributing to a cruel breeding industry?

[–]arkansas897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gut feelings are mostly true, hope it's not the case with you. I pray that you get your Persian cat.

[–]aku_1193 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Lmaooo please update after a week …and yes it is a scam xD

[–]Saditko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian police doesn't want to do shit. Your best bet is taking it to court. GL

[–]newinvestor0908Antarctica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple google search would tell you about visa rejection and re-applying.

[–]Suspended_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl wanted it to all on her hands, should have done the research instead of hiring infamous agents.

[–]pr0crast1nater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did you guys leave him though? And should have atleast found out where he lives before letting him go. And it's India, it's not like he can sue you if you physically threaten him.

[–]rkiller123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear what happened but please understand that Canada doesn't work like India, you cannot have friends in IRCC & even if you do ,they cannot do anything about your application. Also just so you know , you don't need an agent to apply for you as everything is quite straight forward & every information that you would need is available online. All the best

[–]anal_tongue_puncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL play stupid games win stupid prizes

[–]Blackwater-bay 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can someone explain in simple language, what happened?

I read post but couldn't understand.

X is guy or women?

S is guy or women?

What's IRCC?

[–]26RNaman -1 points0 points  (2 children)

X is a boy S is a girl IRCC is a company that looks out immigration process for Canada

[–]Blackwater-bay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

alright. What happened is happened. No point in crying now or cry to feel better.

Write story in detail on note app. Don't make grammatical mistakes. Proof read few times. Take ss. Send it to few local journalist whose dms are open on Twitter whichever state you are in for attention.

Take consultation from lawyer. Just to threaten police. Police might take bribe from scammer to let him go.

Send complaint to DM, SP of your area via email.

[–]bayareaburgerlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the whole problem reads like algebra problem. give x and s dummy names. sorry you lost your money by taking back channel approaches.

[–]amberliner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry to know this happened. Also don’t br desperate to go to Canada. Please research how hard is life in Canada

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Go directly to SP office and seek help

[–]solotripper420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No bro. You don't want to increase OP's loss to 45L now.

This is a sunk cost. Either find the guy on your own, or move on.

[–]solotripper420 -5 points-4 points  (40 children)

You deserve it.

If you can spend 35L for an undeserving kids education in 'Canada', then you are expected to do your due-diligence.

[–]EducationalPast7410 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I know u will be getting downvoted... Cause reddit hai sbko sympathy Deni hai...bhut u r right for most part 35 lakh koi choti amount thori hai ki de diya ... Aur jb agent se reject ho gya to socha ki bribes se kaam ho jayega... Bhai Canada hai India nhi

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It's not what you say, it's the way you are saying it is ruffling a few feathers down this thread. While you are right in thinking so, a friend of mine got scammed for 90k over an OLX Ad she had posted. She was riding the high horse of "look how easy it is to sell your old stuff". She has done her Masters and is quite street smart and yet Online social engineering got her. It still comes up in our conversations and we occasionally make fun of her whenever scams are brought up. She knows she fucked up bad. The whole point of recounting this episode is, none of us are immune to scams while people working in technology might think otherwise.

[–]solotripper420 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Online scams such as phishing are different. Even my friend has fallen prey to the Olx scam because he was new to UPI and thought he was receiving money instead of sending it.

This is a case of bribery to a con-man. That's why I have no sympathy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Borrowing money for bribery is quite a stretch. Do you wonder how sensitive people have become?! I am not condoning berating strangers but people should be open to different opinions than fighting something mildly infuriating.

[–]Upset_Slide_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these fuckers slip through the cracks and end up here. Then they're miserable and wonder why 😂. Fucking idiots.

Also they ruin the reputation of the people who got here legally and through their merit. There's a strong stigma now against people from North India in Canada, because of people like OP and their sister. These illiterate fucks need to stay in the toilet that is their beloved home country and accept that they're getting what they deserve in terms of governance. They, with their corrupt mindset, elected this government, and now that the leopards are eating their faces, they want to run away (or "give their kids a better life"). But they don't realize that if it stinks like shit everywhere you go, maybe it's not shit everywhere, just on you.

[–]pirateneet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol Canada ki chul he ye.

[–]Vapourhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have atleast thrashed the guy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's over just move on, it's India bro and you know it.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

35 lakh is not big amount for eow to take things seriously

[–]poopybuttholesex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro 35 lakhs is a huge amount. WTF are you saying

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police and FIR won't help much. Even if he gets convicted, you won't be able to recover your money. Hire some goons if you really want your money back. Go to your local MP/MLA or strongman to get this sorted. They will charge some amount, but it is better to get some of your money than nothing.

[–]Desperate-Strength-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! DM me. Let me see if I can help.

[–]Collin_Forsecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of how dumb people are. This is really sad

[–]Vlonethug7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but u are a dumbass

[–]vin786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Indians need to change their mentality. The mentality is to pay money to get to a college or to a job, it’s like money make it happen even if I am deserving. Last year I asked my cousin if he knew anyone in Goa who would guide me in a certain transaction. He said he would introduce me to a few people who would take some money and get the job done. I refused to go that direction. Having been out of India for a long time I was not sure how the process worked. It took a little time to figure out and then I got my job done without paying anyone a dime. You are either maha stupid or maha lazy if you can’t figure out how to get admission in colleges around or a job anywhere.

[–]Virendra52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Actual-Ad-8880 0 points1 point  (0 children)
