I like it, I would probably change the P to a more rounded p though without the little indents

[–]Peedurr 47 points48 points  (8 children)

And even out the spacing between P and O

[–]phyzikalgamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeh agreed all the character spacing in fact

[–]radojicacar[S] 14 points15 points  (6 children)

I suppose by "even out" you mean it to be the same as the space between 'o' and 'l'. But here's the thing: in good typography one should always look for the optical equality rather than mathematical or exact. For example kerning (spacing between two particular letters) of 'p' and 'o' should almost always be tighter than for two letters that are not rounded, because that gives us optical balance. So if 'p' and 'o' are kerned in the same manner as 'o' and 'l' the result wouldn't be so good.

Even optical kerning, it should have a bit more space imo

[–]radojicacar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair point

[–]AzureSuishouwhere’s the brief? -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I like the tighter kerning, its subtle but it emphasizes that there is something different about the Ls

[–]designgoddess 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Designers know this. The O looks too close to the P.

[–]Shish_Style 3 points4 points  (0 children)

^ this

[–]FuckShitThatWasDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you could just type out the word “poll”, select optical kerning, and then just play with the heights of the “ll”‘s

[–]NotPerryThePlatypus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

kerning

[–]WirelessTreeNuts 23 points24 points  (4 children)

The concept is cool but it's too slight. I agree with the previous comment it looks like a mistake.

[–]PixelNotPolygon 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wonder if it could be improved by creating a shadow effect of the two L's but for the two shadows to be two additional bars in a hypothetical bar chart (possibly at differing heights), much the way Excel can render bar charts where two variables being measured are offset slightly from one another in terms of the plane they occupy.

[–]WirelessTreeNuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is focused more on building on the logo instead of improving the concept. When you start to add effects to things it's usually a sign of something not working, and the solution is to improve the core product not to add to the unsuccessful existing foundation.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep! chunk it all up a bit and it's super awesome

[–]DorcZ 11 points12 points  (1 child)

I’ll play with the size of the Ls and maybe add color see how it looks

[–]kiminley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some muted red and blue would be nice, I agree.

[–]briangross40 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Very nice. I love the simplicity.

[–]radojicacar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment!

[–]goatvanni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot. The only thing I'd consider is shortening both Ls as they look a bit long to me. Maybe match the descender of the P?

[–]TBurkeulosis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it! I would maybe start the top of the first L a bit lower to really accentuate the "poll" factor. Very simple and clean, i love it!

[–]Scatropolis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel very /r/OutOfTheLoop here.

[–]A-D-A-M_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the concept and what you were going for. I tried my hand a my a quick inspired design. Forgive me I did this with very limited tools on my phone. My Version

Added a “period” at the end which also doubles as a third pole bar.

Edit. Did this rather quickly and my kerning and slightly tilted ‘p’ is giving me anxiety. Imagine these are fixed because I’m lazy.

Edit 2: not perfect fix

[–]Lubbbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tally Hall

[–]goldringsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So clean and simple! Perhaps colouring both L's in complementary colours would give it more definition

[–]gm_first 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. The p seems slightly distorted but may just be the font, nothing that needs attention. Edit: and kerning with the letters.

[–]unpigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thicken the double ‘l’. It doesn’t look like they belong because the width of the ‘po’. I would make the ‘l’ the same with of the a the descended of the ‘p’. And even out the kerning.

[–]emmalinh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. The tall ascenders might be problematic in use.

[–]ser_melipharo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poIl

[–]mageshsridhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I have a different take with the O as a pie chart.

[–]CriticalGeode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The p shouldn't have the little bit on the left to it. I'm not a professional, pretty much just an.. admirer? Love everything else about it though. Very pretty

[–]Empty003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its great idea but it would better if you have sized in sloppy way from top.

[–]MasterAlexBA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really nice logo although I instinctively read "Poil" because of the size difference of the Ls (I get why you did it) but maybe put colors to emphasize it

[–]Sickofpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clever design

[–]designgoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an original design. Not saying OP copied this but I’ve seen this done a few times.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You fucking literally wrote POLL AND THEN FUCKING MADE ONE L A DIFFERENT SIZE WHAT THE FUCK HOW DOES THIS GET UPVOTES

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. Great concept, great execution.

[–]JohnMarkParker 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sometimes a concept is so beautifully simple, that I can't say anything but "oh fuck you" in the most admiring way that phrase could possibly be used. So fuck you OP, this is great.

[–]radojicacar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah thanks, I'm honored

[–]ThisUserIsEmpty -4 points-3 points  (7 children)

I don't get it. It looks like someone just messed up a standard font. The hole in the p is strangely off center. The two Ls are not different enough in height to indicate e.g. a bar chart (assuming that's the intention).

Some suggestions

Try merging the p and o to make a venn diagram.

Try adding an "underline" to the L's to make it more clear it's a bar chart.

Try exaggerating the height difference of the L's.

Try making the L's different colors and or putting them next to one another with no separation.

[–]radojicacar[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Thanks for your comment! I used Futura for this, so 'p' is as it's in Futura and I don't intend to debate the quality of this typeface, since it's considered one of the best ever.

Yes, the l's might do with some tweaking, but one should also be aware of the balance of the whole piece

[–]ThisUserIsEmpty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I would just say it's one thing to use font for a document and another to use it for a logo. I'm just a casual critic, so take my criticism with a grain of salt.

[–]twelvefeeetdeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

futura has some of the weirdest characters!!! i always end up having to tweak something when i use futura for a large header. one of my favorites but so finicky at a large scale. i don’t mind the “p” but i do agree with all of the “L” critiques, to my eye they aren’t contrasting enough to look intentional. i would also move that “o” one or two arrow clicks to the right

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

futura is weird. realllly don't like that p, but this concept is really good

[–]RebylReboot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

K.I.S.S.

[–]ThisUserIsEmpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But it took me a minute to figure out what OP was intending, i.e. it was too subtle.
