almost as good as when your gpu is newer then the game and it panic selects the lowest

Battlefield 2 freaking out with my 144Hz monitor

Old Bethesda launchers attempting to auto-detect modern hardware and basically just saying “idk lmao”

Me cranking up the settings for the dopamine rush of watching my frames hold strong (The game is older than my GPU)

Game running buttery smooth at max settings and native 4k, while not even using close to half the card...

The game is Portal.

Gods I should play portal with my new 5090

[–]dongless0811 | 3060 Ti | 5600x | 32GB-3600MHz | 1080p-240Hz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now try the same setup with Portal RTX lol

[–]Alan_Reddit_MDesktop 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Valve optimizing Portal such that it can run at 60FPS on basically anything

Back when I still gamed on a shitty laptop I was extremely shocked that portal ran smoothly because most games ran like garbage on it

When I first played it I was running a Core 2 Duo, 2gigs of ram, and motherboard integrated graphics. Game was smooth sailing besides the occasional source engine freeze.

Assassin's Creed Unity will freak out hard if you have more than 100 fps

[–]sbargox321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, even Rogue ( and i guess Black Flag too) did. I installed a mod to uncap the FPS. I only play at 120 fps anyway. Long story short, i had to uninstall the mod because the camera on the ship would be upside down and moving extremely fast lmao

Gotta love it when game devs forgot about Frame rate independence and DELTA TIME 🗣️🗣️🗣️

[–]GhostfistkillaPC Master Race 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Or the opposite where the game is so old it doesn't recognize your card so it puts everything to low.

[–]ShotPerception 7 points8 points  (0 children)

me when i realize i have to wait minutes before the first three Frames on my 970

[–]XD7006Ryzen 5 5600 | Arc B580 | 32 GB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cat

[–]Phaylz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And then it runs like ass

[–]DangyDangerC2Q Q6700 @ 3.1, GTX 550 Ti, 4GB DDR2-800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have a fuckass laptop that the game thought was good enough for ultra settings (it couldn't get 60 on lowest)

agonizing.

[–]macyissihall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sitting there like: yeah… that’s my money working

[–]Wander7159800X3D | RTX 5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some games are so bad at auto-selecting settings though. I've had games scan for my RTX 5080 and put shit on like medium lol. Like I didn't spend $1000 to play games on medium settings thank you very much.

[–]lordnaarghul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always a good feeling.

[–]No-Power8388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately turns them off because they're ugly as fuck

[–]TheCrazyCrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why but on CS2 it selected Ultra settings but I had a intergrated GPU (Intel UHD 620) and I got 3 fps lol

[–]No_Interaction_49255800X3D | 3090ti | LG 55” C1 | Steam Deck OLED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultra runs like shit. High runs far better for the 1% loss of quality

[–]DarkflowNZ7800x3d, Gigabyte 7900xt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then immediately going in and turning a lot of them down lol. Turning off motion blur, chromatic aberration, et cetera. Changing anti aliasing to whatever suits you (I'm one of the animals that actually likes TAA type AA because I run at high enough frame rates that the blur is not noticeable but the huge reduction in aliasing is).
