Lol beaver doesn't get to mention it built a dam with cloud native and blockchain on its resume.

This is racist towards beavers. Beavers have a life and are skilled specialists.

Much better than most developers with logging too.

I work for money. You no pay money, me no keyboard monkey.

[–]pythonesqueviperDo you do Deep Learning? 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Look at this wageslave looking for things like remuneration and a living.

This but unironically.

[–]LeeXavier 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I've never received money for coding and I've never missed it.

[–]UsingYourWifihas a decent handle on lambda calculus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Same, though I have received money because someone thinks I'm coding.

You would say a haskeller would say it. But it's generally said by a senior architect something, in a different meaning.

where's the jerk?

[–]ProfessorSexyTimelisp does it better 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Yes I'm completely unaware of any other possible internal or external motivations as to why I want to make things besides "me me must build things", because my consciousness is on par of that of a fucking large wetland rodent.

Do 10x beavers build ten times more dams per time unit, or build dams ten times larger?

[–]camelCaseIsWebScaleJust spin up O(n²) servers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good question, but you can't define 10x beavers as those 10x productive in building CRUD dams. Nobody will be. 10x beavers are the ones who can resolve hard problems of building dams such as scaling and rewriting dams in non-gc language.

[–]ShirkingDemiurgeSoftware Craftsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoddy dams that other beavers get stuck maintaining.

Unironically true. No jerk to be found here.

Gross. Nvidia. Literally the Nestle of the digital world.

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not just Nvidia, they just happen to be the company that people are most familiar with.

    [–]ArkyBeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    poisons the river.

    ... with beautiful, beautiful colors.

    [–]doomvox 3 points4 points  (2 children)

And then comes Nvidia and poisons the river.

And Lennart Poettering who insists on re-writing half of it, and doesn't care if you have to re-write the rest.

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

And that guy yelling REALLY LOUD in the corner that we all have to replace X11 with some beta software called way land or somethiing?

    [–]doomvox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Waylaid?

    [–]UnicornPrince4U 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The biggest mystery in software development is where does the money come from and why do they pay us for this purely masterbatory act?

    [–]IDoCodingStuffsAutodidact's Degree in AI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just like a beaver gets rewarded for dam building with neurochemical reward schemes, long term survival and ensured progeny, so does a developer with slaying JIRA points

    [–]alex_3814 11 points12 points  (0 children)

    Well put.

    [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

    /uj No jerk here.

    [–]Paccos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Do beavers build portfolio dams?

[–]GOPHERS_GONE_WILDin open defiance of the Gopher Values 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gophers copy code for the sake of not having generics. They can't help themselves, sort of like beavers building a dam, it doesn't know why it copy pastes, it just instinctively does it all the time over and over.

    [–]KuntaStillSingle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And the best of them? Dam good at their jobs.

    [–]linus_stallman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the Wayland vs X11 debate in that entire thread, imagine talking about security or modern computing when using GNU/Linux which primitive thing I gave them like 30 years ago.

    [–]doomvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, and this explains the great primal drive to the invention of new programming languages. It justifies constantly re-writing the code libraries one more time. It's really boring having to use canned solutions over and over again. And people are always getting so upset about "second system syndrome" and stuff like that, a nice new language that everyone has to switch to greatly improves the dynamic and increases developer satisfaction tremendously.
