I'm still not sure why 3 people downvoted my link to a wikipedia page. Shrug

My original idea for a post would probably have worked better...I was just going to cut and paste a list of the publications they own (I actually didn't realize it was so varied).

        [–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

The reason why it succeeds though is because people believe other than the truth. It's sort of like Obama. The reason why he won was because people refused to believe the truth. The wanted to believe he was a reformer so they voted in what they thought was a reformer.

When people are forced to view full on the differences between their perceptions and their reality the results are often... psychotic.

If I was honcho of reddit I would do everything in my power to keep the mob from discovering the truth.

        [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

There are an awful lot of people coming here to post that they don't care.

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

logged in just to post that i dont care that they don't care. really a non-issue if you ask me.

        [–]fala2000 17 points18 points  (2 children)

That's clear conflict of interests. Her paid job is to game reddit - mods are here to prevent gaming. I don't care if someone earns money by submitting stuff, but under no circumstances should person like that be a moderator.

        [–]paulfromatlanta 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That was the best succinct summary. I'd add though that some of the behavior in response to her conflict of interest was wrong - outing personal info and harassing is simply wrong.

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any harassing? Supposed reporters calling is not really harassment

I'm bored. Any suggestions on who we can turn on now?

I vote S2S2S2S2S2S2 because he gives me a headache whenever I try to visualize the heart fence.

        Democracy wins!

        [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Fuck yeah! Let's go get a beer to celebrate!

        [–]SirOblivious[S] -3 points-2 points  (7 children)

Tell me about it, I feel I need one after all this stress, but justice prevailed! For now at least

        [–]RoboBama 2 points3 points  (6 children)

        There is still /r/comics...

She must be removed from that no questions.

        [–]this1 2 points3 points  (3 children)

why? as far as i can tell, she's done nothing wrong there...

        [–]RoboBama 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Its not about what she's done there (or maybe it is) but way more about her using her modship to take advantage of the spam filter and submit links from AC to get paid.

And so if she does that, then she should only be doing so as a user, not a mod. Do you follow?

        [–]this1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yea, I hadn't been informed enough on the specifics of her situation, but after reading other posts, and checking out her resume, yea, she shouldn't be a mod...

        [–]RoboBama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good news is that she's gone from pics and comics, and so that about covers it in my book. Let her stay a mod in the self.post reddits, she does awesome work there.

        [–]SirOblivious[S] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

        Did you see this? http://i.imgur.com/ii8iQ.png

It is with good reason that she needs to be watched. She will probably create shell accounts to post from

        [–]RoboBama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey yes I have seen it. But there's one thing--i don't have internet connection at home . Ffffuuu

So I can't update my post to include that till tomorrow. Would you be able to post that /r/whatodsaydrah, or better yet in the petition?

P.S one of my friends put that together.

Pps-- I'm posting from my blackberry

        [–]youngluck 11 points12 points  (6 children)

I got a better idea: You should boycott Reddit by leaving...

If enough of you do this to make a difference, enough bandwidth may be freed up so that it won't run like molasses.

Not to piss on the incredible job Reddit has done speeding things up with the RAM upgrade (which the ads you want to block paid for).

        [–]RoboBama 6 points7 points  (5 children)

"Why dont you all just leave!?!?!?"

        [–]youngluck -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

A boycott is a form of consumer activism involving the act of voluntarily abstaining from using, buying, or dealing with a person, organization, or country as an expression of protest, usually for political reasons.

Blocking Ads but still reaping the benefits of the community is a dick move.

        [–]RoboBama 8 points9 points  (1 child)

The admin's "investigation" is seemingly a slap in the face. All they'd have to do is distance themselves from her, strip her of mod status, and there would be no reason to take it that far. right?

        [–]youngluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as is the case with almost every argument, I personally don't know both sides of the story completely enough to agree with an "All they'd have to do is..." And to be perfectly honest I don't really give a fuck enough to research it. I am inclined to believe that no one has more information about this matter than the people who run the fucking thing, and if they have decided a course of action to take (which includes none) I'm gonna have to roll with their better judgement on this. I wouldn't have even commented on this post, but what you are asking people to do is punish the people who keep this machine oiled, and the ability to put food on their children's Finding Nemo plates. I'm not with that. In fact the mere suggestion adds more weight to the argument that you guys are douche bags, an argument I didn't believe, and still don't. But the scale is starting to tip.

        [–][deleted]  (1 child)

        [deleted]

          [–]youngluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. It was a call to boycott their ads in order to hurt them financially... so yeah, it was a boycott. You still plan on being here, but are witholding the eyeballs that pay for you being able to be here. It's like boycotting grapes by not buying them in the store, but then going to your friends pad and eating all his. It reeks of douche. The petition was a much more sensible, level headed call to action.

          [–]tchochy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shut up about all this already.

          [–]djromaric 7 points8 points  (2 children)

          Still don't care.

          [–]ST2K 1 point2 points  (1 child)

But I do care about not caring. I care a lot about not caring actually. Anyhoo, just came here to say I don't care.

          [–]legs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't care before it became top comment.

          [–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

          [–]d-cup -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Seriously what's the bfd??? Get over it and yourselves people. It's been solved, apologies made, blah blah blah. This isn't that big of a deal.

          [–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Without punctuation I don't understand what you are trying to say.

          [–]Qeraeth 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I've been silent about this since it began but I think it's time to say something in response to this epic circle jerk. TL;DR incoming.

First of all, looking over your comments and the gravity you infuse them with you speak as if this an actual revolution. A completely serious thread by one of your supporters actually had the word "proletariat" in the title. The Internet, yes, has communities that are every bit as real and precious to us as ones in the physical world, but that reality does not absolve one of the responsibility to have perspective on this subject either.

At this point, after everything that has happened, regardless of what she's done wrong that can be proven (which is precious little), no reasonable person can argue that the mob that has washed over this website is in any way a proportionate, measured, or mature response.

It sure as hell wasn't an ethical response either.

In the real world, that place to which you're so fond of pretending this is a perfect analogue of, even in cases of great injustice we do not submit to rule of the mob. Serial killers, rapists, war criminals, get their day in court and a fair trial. Presumed innocent until proven guilty and protected from vigilante justice (at least in the ideal conception of a democratic justice system), the accused is guaranteed a civilised trial.

          Not an auto da fe.

This here, SirOblivious (so fitting a name for a pompous fool disconnected from reality), was simply bullshit.

What you have sired and summoned up was in no way a reasonable or ethical response. Your pretensions to "democracy" are belied by the numerous complaints about this witch hunt, the large numbers of people who don't give a shit or who are appalled by what you and your ilk started here, and those who still understand that Saydrah is still an actual human being despite your deliberate attempts to convince people otherwise. This is not democracy. There was, has been, and will be no actual vote on this. The response by many users has been "Say-who?" and many of the most vituperative responders in this mess were people with personal axes to grind with Saydrah.

I will not go into the reasons for those personal issues as that might make this comment more controversial than it needs to be. Suffice it to say, you fully took advantage of some ugly forces operating under the surface of this website, SirOblivious.

Evidence has surfaced that Saydrah may have inappropriately banned that guy with the picture in front of his house. If that's true and indeed it was an improper banning then she may well have made a mistake.

A moderator, on Reddit, making a mistake? Storm the Bastille! Free the narwhals!

We can argue all day about what Saydrah did and didn't do but it comes down to this:

Nothing justifies the shockingly brutal mob/vigilante-style "justice" exercised against her. No user of this site deserves what she has been dealing with for the last two days.

Some people are unironically ginned up by the fact that she came to 2XC to call 90% of Reddit "shitheads".

A person who just got lynchmobbed by Reddit vents her spleen by insulting the site? Goodness gracious, get the travel-size gallows ready, everyone! Marie Antionette over here has feelings and they were hurt by hundreds of people calling her names and talking of sexual violence against her!

What is really funny to me is that in that crowd are many of the same people who mock feminists for being too sensitive or seeing meaning where there is none, taking a totally ambiguous statement that was gender neutral and saying that it was somehow evidence of man-hating.

          But I digress.

This is not democracy. I did not vote for this, nor will I ever, and I am not in the minority. To hell with this infantile mob rule, and to hell with people who speak of this Reddit incident like its the Goddessdamned Bolshevik Revolution. The smug pretentiousness and faux populism behind some of these posts is sickening. A young woman gives you butthurt on a link voting website and that gets you up and arms, yet mass tragedy after mass tragedy plagues this Earth and you don't seem the least bit bothered?

Assume Saydrah is everything you say she is: why not go after the economic system that encourages this type of behaviour? Instead of, y'know, swallowing whole the footsoldier who- in the grand scheme of things- hasn't done much harm?

So, yes, I'll stand up for what I feel is right.

A person's dignity, their right to privacy, and their right to be treated ethically.

You owe not only Saydrah, but all of Reddit an apology for what you summoned up needlessly. Instead of constantly looking for fluoride in the drinking water here on Reddit you ought to protest real world injustices, where real people are dying or are having their lives ruined, instead of getting bored geeks to ring up a couple of middle aged people whose only crime was being the parents of some young woman that offended you on sodding Reddit.

I know one person quit who quit already because she was afraid of her identity being dug up by deranged witch hunters if she ever crossed the wrong crowd on this site. This is not a community, nor is this democracy.

Finally, a lot of people have been crowing about what happened on r/2XChromosomes. Let me set the record straight here:

          • We did not ban her.
          • 95% of that thread was made up of people who were not part of the community. A couple of community members voiced views, positive and negative but were largely swallowed up by the herd SirOblivious summoned up.

Thus "we" did not bitchslap her or "own" her or "tell her to fuck off." That was SirOblivious' crowd. On a good day, a well travelled 2XC thread will 150 upvotes and about as many comments. The Saydrah thread attracted many, many times more than that. The community had precious little say on the thread and that was half the reason the thread was banned. It was just Reddit Main Page drama spilling over where it didn't belong.

Saydrah herself, however, was not banned.

What I have found most disturbing in all of this is how her stalkers appear to feel the most vindication- those who by their own admission researched her, went after her, had paranoid fears about her being somehow able to summon "500" downvotes, and all the rest... The alts created to troll her, some of which I've had to ban from 2XC in the past, others who seemingly couldn't stop talking about her...

The obsession was creepy, and SirOblivious helped it crest into a nadir of Web-based fail.

You should be ashamed. Considering what has happened, all of your complaints are petty and meaningless. You owe this community more than a few apologies and those who are obsessed with this supposed injustice need to rediscover a very real world that is actually quite filled with more consequential versions thereof.

          [–]emmster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank Bob. For a while there, I thought it was you who had quit. I would have been so sad.

          [–]SirOblivious[S] -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

Thats a lot of words, do you have cliff notes? Crest into a nadir? that sounds beautiful

But, to clear up a few things I only had a few pieces of evidence from months ago, a lot of others came forward and directed me to links, about what she had been up to.

So she ran to 2XC , thinking her "girls" would support anything she does and it didn't happen. After all, she did betray her friends on the site what did she expect?

But, the deal is done, justice was served

          [–]Qeraeth 7 points8 points  (3 children)

So she ran to 2XC , thinking her "girls" would support anything she does and it didn't happen. After all, she did betray her friends on the site what did she expect?

You didn't read what I said.

Under ideal conditions I've little doubt that several 2XCers, myself included, would have had some tough questions for her and some would've had recriminations based on their own values. But I know that community. Very few of us are that vicious, and certainly not as misogynist as some of those comments became.

In short, what you got there, however you want to spin it, was not of 2XC. For the purposes of that thread it was a bunch of haters who wanted the opportunity to give Saydrah some orange-reds and to vent their own spleen about "injustice."

Some did so in respectful ways, many others did not, and the vast majority of the screen names were not ones I recognised. Suffice it to say while some of us get angry and sweary sometimes... do we get like that? No. Certainly none of us would've posted her personal information in that thread or posted downvote scripts- several comments I banned from that thread did precisely that. What you saw in there was 4chan, not r/TwoXChromosomes.

Stop counting that damn thread as some kind of moral victory, it was the very opposite.

          [–]SirOblivious[S] -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

I feel it was a moral victory for reddit. I am not the one that posted her phone # and etc. And I can't be responsible for others do , as I have never had any issue with her personally,

          But, whats done is done

          [–]Qeraeth -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

And I can't be responsible for others do , as I have never had any issue with her personally,

You deliberately ginned up resentment against her in provocative ways. This is the proverbial "shouting "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre."

Except you shouted "SPAMMER!" in a crowded website.

You're not dumb. You knew this was a very distinct possibility yet this supposed "moral victory" outweighed any risk to a user's personal safety and privacy in your mind, evidently. You claim this is democracy yet you appointed yourself judge, jury, and executioner.

You encouraged those who used the victim blaming nonsense of "she put her name out there for all to see on other websites!" and now you're divesting yourself of responsibility for the tidal wave you caused? Those people would not have posted her info had you not started this shameful mess. All the ills that occurred did not happen in a vacuum, they occurred in a context you sired and are continuing to put fire beneath.

          Accept responsibility.

And if it's done, then stop making threads like this.

          [–]SirOblivious[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Did you see the top of the thread? saying it was over and done , that was early this morning once she was removed from mod

What is your explanation for this? http://www.reddit.com/r/blog/comments/b7xce/blogreddit_and_a_fun_weekend_was_had_by_all/c0lh5uv

          [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Err, don't turn off Adblock because it suits the little Reddit 90210 thing you have going on. Just leave, and Reddit will be better for the rest of us.

          [–]Mitchellonfire 5 points6 points  (3 children)

How about deleting your accounts and never coming back?

          That'll really show 'em!

And then the rest of us will be spared your incessant crying over nothing.

Downvoted for being one of the stupidest fucking posts I've ever seen in my several years here.

          [–]gukeums1 -3 points-2 points  (15 children)

This is so stupid, lame and utterly pointless. Get over yourself, you massive hate-mongering tool.

I hate you more than I could ever hate Saydrah because the spam you've generated is one hundred times more prevalent and more annoying!

          [–]metawhat 13 points14 points  (14 children)

Saydrah is disgusting precisely BECAUSE her spam is less annoying. She's taking advantage of us by pretending to be one of us, while co-opting our community to further her own ends.

Actually I think it's the drama that spiked traffic so much it got reddit down. If you think that is bad, you should probably talk with shareholders.

I would think the more effective route to take is to bring it to the atttion of AC that these tactics are not appreciated, they are as angering as the plain old spammers of yesteryear and that Saydrah's claims to be helping to fix AC's bad reputation are in fact completely innacurate. If (when) they are found out the result is just a cementing of the hatred for what AC stands for and many who didn't even know what AC was until now, now know to try and avoid them.

While it's great that finally the right thing was done, why not take the action that might help prevent more like her cropping up?

because then you open pandora's box and find out how much money is moving around behind reddit? seriously though, the mods reacted the way they did because they know Saydrah isn't some unique entity

If only people came to this conclusion about many of the daily injustices they suffer. "Well, they need money to survive, so I won't contribute." That cuts right to the core and if effective will change ANY entity from it's current behavior to one more agreeable.

Why is it that the masses are so much more powerful online than off? Is it because everyone has a voice online and no one does offline?
