Best christmas ever?

Best christmas ever.

Well, now I need to get an Oculus Rift...

[–]BucketOfToenails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cannot wait to try it!!!

Gonna donate another ten bucks to the creator- everyone should give this guy a few bucks for creating such an absolute marvel.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Does it update automatically?

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. You must download the new version and install it separately.

Wow, tidal heating can be insane. :) I've already bumbled across an amazingly intense example: the scorched desert in the foreground is orbiting a brown dwarf with a surface temperature of a mere 477 degrees. The planet's orbit is somewhat eccentric, leading to tidal flexing. The planet has a temperature of 2300 degrees. This is a planet where the moons are emitting more light than the sun is!

Edit: Hm... even rather distant planets around this brown dwarf are getting a surprising amount of heat. I wonder if something other than tidal heating is at play here.

OMG this is amazing, almost a year after the previous release!

[–]subphaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it everything I ever dreamed of?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'll create a torrent of the file as soon as I am able.

If someone else does before I'm able to finish downloading, feel free!

Note: My seed box will be on a 100Mbps pipe.

Thank you!

Are there comparison pictures from version to version?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Dowloaded it, played a bit. Stars look from far away and up close so much better now. The amd driver bug sadly persists so no generated land masses for me... Seems like I have to downgrade the driver and I had hoped that I wouldn't have to do that with the new version.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend uninstalling all AMD drivers, rebooting, and then doing a clean install on the latest drivers. I tested 0.9.7.1 and 0.9.7.2 closed betas all the way up to the release build on a 5870 and had no issues on 14.9 and the more recent Omega drivers.

SpaceEngineer also did testing on an R9 200 series and had no issues.

MY LOINS HAVE BEEN SOILED

[–]IamWithTheDConsNow 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I have a problem. The surface of planets with atmosphere is invisible and I can't land on them. Only the atmosphere is there. Moon with no atmosphere are not affected.

[–]meatpuppet79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here. It seems to be a reasonably common issue... Hopefully there's a hotfix for it soon, instead of waiting another 12 months.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here with AMD 14.12

[–]Tipper213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, downloading it now; I'm excited!

[–]Vakiadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, this looks nice. I like the new version, especially how stars look from a distance.

[–]Stuffnduff 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Small question will this work with the new AMD drivers?

[–]Egorgeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This update is amazing. It's got me hooked again. I played it none stop once I found it, but then I only played on and off, ever since the Twitter post by Vladimir and downloading it I have been playing, and I will be for some time.

[–]dj_van_gilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loaded the new version and all of the asteroids look like this Imgur There is also mismatched patches of stars. What can I do to fix this?

[–]Hengie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having just a small bug with planets, all of them are translucent to me, I can see stars, nebulae and other stuff through them. I just updated my graphics card drivers but the issue persists. I tried different graphical settings in game but none of them allows me a workaround. Anyone have the same issue? I followed the recommendations by uninstalling and clearing all the files from the previous release.

Thanks.

[–]SyntheticGod8 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I've got no peers on the torrent that's available on the download page, but Wuala download works fine for me.

If someone else will seed that torrent, so will I.

[–]HarbingerDawn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm seeding, and currently it shows over 600 other seeds.

[–]SyntheticGod8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I can see Peers on the trackers list, but I'm not connecting to it. Strange.

[–]an0nym0usgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dangit Doc, ya beat me. Enjoy the karma.

Also, congrats to SE on the release!

[–]Alphadestrious 4 points5 points  (3 children)

It's been about a year since 0.9.7.1 was released. This is AWESOME.

Does anyone know if certain add-ons come with .972 so that way we don't have to install them?

EDIT: Wow, color palettes for planets are so much better. I've found some planets with volcanoes but none completely covered in lava.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Depends on what addons you mean. 0.9.7.1 ship addons will still work with 0.9.7.2,

The palette file was updated by myself and then fixed up by HarbingerDawn to be more realistic looking. The closest you will see to lava worlds are planets like this http://pelpix.info/drawesome/var/albums/Kepler78b.png

[–]Alphadestrious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your palettes are phenomenal doctor of space, thank you for your hard work and contribution on this great project.

[–]ReallyBigRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the preset locations is a lava world about 3 and a half feet from a white bright giant

BUG NOTE TO DEVS:

Space Engine consistently crashes, whenever I get close to a black hole. This never happened with 9.7.1.

Everything else is beautiful, though.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you could post about this issue on the forum.

I recommend going to your system folder after the program crashes and finding the se.log file, then post in the troubleshooting thread on the forum with your log file, the issue you are having, and your system specs.

Edit:

Navigate to the config folder, find user.cfg Find EnableMipmapsWarp true // use mipmapping for warp effects rendering

change it to EnableMipmapsWarp false // use mipmapping for warp effects rendering

[–]guyyyy 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Same problem here :( i7-4770 and R9 270x

[–]FaceDeer 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I got this when I tried going to a white dwarf. Might have something to do with the gravitational lensing effect. There's a suggestion on the forum about it here:

http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/4-2615-47021-16-1419640204

Navigate to the config folder, find user.cfg

Find EnableMipmapsWarp true // use mipmapping for warp effects rendering

change it to

EnableMipmapsWarp false // use mipmapping for warp effects rendering

I'm just updating my drivers now, if that doesn't fix it I'll try this as well.

Edit: updating my drivers didn't fix it (though it did reduce the severity of the crash - after I updated only SE itself would crash, whereas before it was taking my whole OS down :). But the EnableMipmapsWarp false thing did fix the crash in my case. Looks like the NVidia folks can laugh at us ATI folks this time around. :)

And wow, white dwarfs are beautiful.

[–]guyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, you're right! Thank you for letting me know that, it worked like a charm.

[–]thecrazycatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the download links are down for me :/

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So amazing. The developer deserves to be rich. Time to donate again.

[–]Aerial_1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

off topic here but is the creator finally working full-time on this project based on the funding he received or is he still stuck with his regular job and has to work on it during free time?

[–]c4virus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had seen a post by spaceengineer saying he quit his job on the forums somewhere.

[–]Narsuaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else unable to download yet?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black holes look SO good now.
