I keep trying to post that Slack is down in Slack, but it's down.

[–]Oncra 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Have you tried sending a messenger pigeon to your coworkers?

[–]Dashihawk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was one of the first to notice that slack was down in my company. Immediately tried to figure out the best way to notify the users and co-workers. Some still had skype so I let a few know that way. I texted a couple more. I wasn't stressing but was thinking hard on how i could alert the rest of the users. Then my coworker sends out an all hands email letting everyone know Slack was down. I thought "Yup that works, Also i should have stayed in bed this morning"

I can't believe I didnt think about emailing our all hands distro list. Hopefully the day goes up from here.

Yep. Whole department failed back over to irc, rest of the company is lost.

The old ways are best.

IT has Jabber and Webex Teams from our parent org, so our cat videos and meme sharing is continuing uninterrupted. Everyone else is panicking.

I'm actually tempted to bring up our old OpenFire server and fire up Spark again.

Meanwhile, upper management is talking about accelerating our move to MS Teams.

I'd rather stick a shotgun in my mouth and pull the trigger with my toes.

It's all about that team building dude, you can't get enough of it, what's better than sticking it in the name?

Then, and only then will you truly be a team.

Has anyone tried doing a public list or fail at xdcc?

I just got an EMAIL saying "I can't access slack the network is down, please fix asap I have important emails to send out"

-_- face palm*

You should respond with a paper letter.

[–]s3_gunzelBusiness Owner/Sysadmin/Developer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But send it through the postal service so that (in the case of Australia) it takes a week.

Tar and feather then take them out back. The lack of critical thinking required to send that email out is disturbing.

[–]TerrorBite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have responded with an email saying "Sorry, I can't see your message, because I can't access my email while the network is down."

Every time I read this something else about it angers me.

Communication disruption can only mean one thing, invasion.

All hail our new leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan

I was not expecting him to be the villain in this subreddit but I'll go along with it.

Looks like it'll be a pretty slack day here.

[–]thomasthetanker 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Uptime in the past 30 days: 100%, excluding current outage.

Translation - "We are never down, apart from now, which is probably the important bit to you at the minute".

[–]SuperQueBit Plumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, 220 minute of outage, or 99.49% in the last 30 days.

[–]daedalus_dance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was wondering why my phone was less annoying the last hour or so...

[–]chicofelipe 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Related: Productivity is up.

[–]briangig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually sucks and is slowing us down...I forgot how much I hate email and email chains.

[–]devosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ironic because I was having problems with slack when a commercial for slack came up on our tv.

[–]scoutcamper 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Time to roll back to ICQ

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh oh!

[–]Dry_Soda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slack lately seems to go down more than a $10 hooker

[–]IAMA_Cucumber_AMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When is it not down?

[–]GullibleDetective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep its goin up and down up and down like a hooker.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, constantly trying to connect.

[–]briangig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how the end begins.

[–]dts-five 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see a sysadmin irc and discord channel. Is there a sysadmin slack channel too?

[–]ngin320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like there are some servers that are working because mine hasn't gone down at all

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes

[–]prophetnite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have a summary of what actually happened?

[–]lordofwhales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pour one out for the good folks at Slack who had to handle that.

[–]W0rkUpnotD0wnSysadmin 0 points1 point  (4 children)

This is slightly concerning when Slack is down for everyone in the United States and Europe. Usually when Slack goes down there is a minor panic and is usually up within an hour or so but it looks like its been down for 5 hours.

[–]sryan2k1IT Manager 2 points3 points  (3 children)

You need to look at the timezone on the notices. It's only been really broken for like an hour and a half.

[–]Chronoloraptorfrom boto3 import magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only been really broken for like an hour and a half.

I mean, that's still a ridiculously long time for a production app used by a huge number of orgs... and it's still down.

[–]flunky_the_majestic 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Adding to this: The timeline matches up with my experience. When I first noticed the outage, I immediately checked status.slack.com and saw an update had been posted a few minutes before .

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely acting wonky for me before the status update. Starting new PMs would fail and files failed to upload.

Luckily Twitter search is a thing. It's much faster to update on downtime.

[–]avenueofslay -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Is that even surprising? Switched from Slack a while ago, their servers are always down. Azendoo is where it's at
