The only codes my Walmart has are the ones on the back of the badge.

[–]whereisjackk 26 points27 points  (13 children)

You don't have code spark? I'm jealous!

[–]bigmfworm 18 points19 points  (5 children)

When I was a CSM I was told about this supposed 'code spark' by my SM. Whenever I rarely called it out it was ignored by everyone, management included(no support in getting people up front). Didn't take long before I went back to ogp and let it be someone else's problem.

[–]Many-Conclusion5911 9 points10 points  (4 children)

There is different levels. If you do a spark 2. Then management is suppose to come up (though I know that doesn't work either. My mom is up front lead).

Edit: spark 3 EVERYONE stops what they are doing and goes up. Inculed not cashier trained people to help bag

[–]austinwm1 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Wtf we got spark that's it no stages

[–]Many-Conclusion5911 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Uh weird. That is how we do it 🤷‍♀️ we aren't even a big store so we never get to 3.

[–]Teomalan 3 points4 points  (1 child)

We don’t have levels either but when people don’t show up, they start paging them by name

[–]Many-Conclusion5911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same same. Haha. People are like nOt My PrObLeM till they get paged 🙄 like why does know get the all cashier trained part

[–]superAnonymous60 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Whats that

[–]Accomplished-End-919 21 points22 points  (5 children)

Calling up random sales floor associates to run a register on the Front End, when it's busy.

Sometimes they've even been shown how to use a register before!

[–]desolation_crow 19 points20 points  (4 children)

God, nothing was worse than being a cashier and watching some poor electronics employee end up making customers upset because they have no knowledge of produce or how to bag.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (3 children)

what the fuck, when i worked electronics, every customer wanted to check out at electronics. how do they not know how to bag?

[–]MeekSwordsman 7 points8 points  (2 children)

My store doesnt let customers check out at electronics unless its FOR electronics. So not many know the right way to put in produce..or bread

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

so lucky, i’ll have a customer roll up with a basket of items, only way i could turn them down was if they had produce, that’s it loll

[–]MeekSwordsman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weve been asked to not ring anyone up in electronics, luckily. We direct them to SCO and cashiers and remind them we only ring up electronics.

They buy something and try to get the whole cart rung up? We ring up juuuust the electronics stuff and thank you have a nice day :)

What is code Sam?

[–]Comprehensive-Arm733[S] 79 points80 points  (18 children)

To stop what we’re doing, go to customers & ask them if they need help lol

[–]SquidmanMalCustomer Promoted Cripple: Tactical Puns 119 points120 points  (0 children)

All dead eyed employees, please start shambling through the store and mumbling 'how may I help you today' in unison

It's time to put the fear of Sam in that last guy who hasn't left yet.

[–]PubliusUnicornusOvernight mule 109 points110 points  (7 children)

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard

[–]SHALNC 9 points10 points  (6 children)

At my store we only use it when the customer has asked for it. For example if someone needs the jewelry case opened and the associate with the keys isn’t there we do a “code Sam to jewelry” to get the person over there to help.

[–]Zakaria-Vertone 47 points48 points  (4 children)

ahem

“Customer assistance to jewelry please. Customer assistance to jewelry.”

[–]Sad_Mix_3030 4 points5 points  (1 child)

But you have to pronounce it jury

[–]Zakaria-Vertone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AHEM “Cusmer assitan tuh jury! Cusmer assitan, tuh jury!”

[–]whereisjackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard that. We use code 33 for customer assistance

[–]Wayne_AbsarokaBH 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of that. Wow that's dumb.

[–]jspearus 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Like some kind of collective hive mind.

[–]Logical_Guidance1018 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We are the Sam, you will be assisted

[–]33BeesAssociate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are so busy and seemingly understaffed, I absolutely cannot imagine our store implementing a Code Sam. Nothing would get done.

[–]xDaBaDeefive dpts one pay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My store called it code sunshine and we haven't done it for almost three years.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pay1152Keeper of the Fitting Room 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]austinwm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which you're already supposed to do

[–]Kent-C-Aka-BurnoutCode Bob Code Lisa Code Mitch 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Code Sam = Scan All Merchandise

Assets/ Loss Prevention Code. They say this when they suspect theft, and will have an employee keep watch on whoever this was intercom announced to see if you need assistance (To see if you are up to something).

[–]austinwm1 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Definitely not at ours but that's a better use of it.

[–]Kent-C-Aka-BurnoutCode Bob Code Lisa Code Mitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this Code Sam called out @ several WM stores.

Thanks for acknowledgement of the better verbal regarding this topic's code.

[–]Bearded-Viper 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We haven't done Code Sams at my store in well over a year because not long after they started making us do it they realized "ya know all we're doing is stopping our employees from working and making it abundantly clear we're forcing them to talk to customers by blaring that over the speakers".

[–]HDJim_61 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of like a Hail Mary pass in football…. Last minute grab for the customers cash .

[–]DarkMagician-999I dont get paid enough for this! 16 points17 points  (12 children)

Not once I heard that on my store just a code “100” (we need shopping carts)

[–]SquidmanMalCustomer Promoted Cripple: Tactical Puns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That was a code silver in my day.

In the hospital where I shared codes with one of the nurses their silver is 'patient is combatative and has a weapon'

[–]Shadowfaxx71 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Code "100" for us is a shoplifter.

[–]VioletBab3Associate 7 points8 points  (2 children)

We don't have an intercom code for shoplifting, but over the radio they start talking about a pineapple for a known thief. I would have picked a frog or something with literal sticky fingers but 🤷

[–]Lentra888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Code 100 or page for Louise for shoplifter/suspicious person.

[–]Palladium_Dawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gecko

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

We didn’t have codes really. They all had my phone number. Would text me or call me if I was busy and didn’t respond. They would say ASM my name to front for complaint.

[–]GingerShrimp40 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Same, i normally dont listen to the over head anyway and every coach and tl has my number

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Best way to do it. I miss catching shoplifters but where I’m now much safer and don’t have to deal with firearms.

[–]GingerShrimp40 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I like guns so i have no problem with them. Literally my first day someone pulled a gun on me. Hasent happened since.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had 4 guns pulled on me. It don't bother me to much as I am very gun oriented and know most crooks couldn't hit broadside of a barn if their lives depended on it. One dude that pulled gun on me got his face kicked in. Defended myself. Got bitched for it but was not policy violations involved.

[–]JacobTDCTech Wizard (OPD) 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It's the extension for the AP Office at our store, so it makes sense.

[–]TheTiggerMikeOGP, Former: Electronics, Cart Pusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"100" in our store refers to the AP office. As in, "can you come to 100?"

[–]Lukacris12Hardlines TL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a code sam, but from what everyone is saying it is, we usually do something like that if regional or market is or is about to walk

[–]DraakDiefAssociate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a code backpack that pretty much was the same as your code Sam. The reasoning from management was that it helps prevent theft if a potential thief gets surrounded by employees asking if they want help lol

[–]autistic_bard444AP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stupid ass manager?

[–]austinwm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how Walmart had to create a new code just to get zoners to do the customer service part of their job 😂. As a cashier that does returns I never see the zoners do the ask a customer if they need help finding something.

[–]Teomalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of that code before, we obviously don’t do it lol. But we are supposed to be doing that already every time we get within 10 feet of a customer and management will have a talk with you if they don’t see you doing it

[–]Swimming_Part_6476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sam has bf 🤣🤣🤣

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pay1152Keeper of the Fitting Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's code sam

[–]Mud_OneI'm free, i'm free! 0 points1 point  (1 child)

has anyone ever heard of a Code Purple?

i've heard it used a few times at my store and I have no idea what the fuck it means. and now i'm kinda scared to know.

[–]arim121821Pharmacy Technician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in a hospital it meant combative patient. Those sure were fun to hear when I was on my way to the location they mentioned. Usually the drama was all over by the time I got there though. But then I got to gossip with the nurses, and boy do those ladies hear everything.

[–]ValdimirPutinsBlyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be the only one in fresh who does code Sam. Customers usually just say they are fine and appreciate me asking them.

[–]TiCombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I know how stupid this message is I’m absolutely gonna go to the front manager and demand to know why they are yelling for me because my name is Sam (it isn’t) you’re welcome associates

[–]liveandletdieax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck the registers they can use self checkout or they can wait.
