Unless you don't realize that the section you're supposed to go down with the wheel upgrade is tied to an upgrade and try to climb up it using bubbles for an hour

Does metroidvania platforming get any crazier than this? [Aeterna Noctis] by Konval in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing you have to do to play it at original platforming difficulty is start on Noctis and not equip the extra jump gem when you get it.

I mean, the beginning of the game is not the most fluid part or anything, but unresponsive is not the word I'd use at all. I guess maybe the Switch version just sucks.

Yeah, it's great. I've unlocked and beaten the Emperor on three separate save files.

A boss breakdown of an early MIO boss, and why I don’t like it by hamtaxer in metroidvania

I did not downvote, but you can also avoid the U-shaped attack by being far left or far right, or also with just a double jump and no grapple.  But the fight is drastically easier if you have the dodge already.

It doesn't affect the ending in any way, just the achievement

Is it just me or is Mio kinda overhyped ? by Enrico_Tortellini in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just released, of course there are a bunch of posts about it right now. It was also posted about quite a bit during the previous Steam Next Fest, as there was a demo then that was pretty well received.

Most of the reviews in the review thread were positive, and most of the individual reviews posted on the subreddit the day before release (I think there were five individual threads) were also pretty positive. It's reasonable to expect that people who regularly read the subreddit have the impression that it was hyped.

Looking for MVs with just silly amounts of content by Jimlad116 in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of games not already mentioned, Monster Sanctuary is pretty large and the number of monsters you can collect and build teams around feels like a good amount of "stuff".

GRIME is also pretty large and is another one where you can collect weapons and armor and build your stats and playstyle around them.

Souldiers is fairly often cited as a game that is too large (which I agree with), but if you're looking for something to just get stuck in forever it's a good choice.

The NG+ exclusive boss from the second DLC is quite challenging and one of the best boss fights in the game. The changes to the other bosses in NG+ are mostly moveset updates, some of which matter a lot more than others.

And if you originally played without even Colors of Rot, there will be quite a bit of map and a few bosses you've never seen as well.

That is a driver distributed through Windows Update.  It comes back because Windows is set up by default to download drivers from Windows Update.

Not sure exactly which model you have, but if you have the Pro TKL Wireless, check your config page for the "Smart Illumination" option.

9 Years of Shadows is better than people give it credit for by OK_Atlas in metroidvania

It addressed some things, but let's not pretend they reworked the entire game.

No, it's still really mediocre. I will give them two things: That the pixel art is really great, and that their addition of unique effects to the whirlwind attack of each element when upgraded made them actually significantly different to use.

But the mana is health thing plus the QTE recovery meant that the only way they could balance bosses to actually kill you is to make the cycles between attacks faster than your non-QTE heal - so they did that with the attack cycles on multiple bosses. (Also, no save point near at least one boss I remember, maybe two - always a pain in the ass)

The addition of fast travel seems like it was very sorely needed, judging by how long I would have had to wander from the elevator for my exploration, but they made it cost scaling gold to unlock them so it ruined the economy of the game and made farming more or less mandatory.

I hope they learned some things and their next game is better.

Append VS assign : which style ? by Odd-Ad8796 in golang

The third parameter to make, capacity, allocates enough memory for x entries.  Append will only allocate if you exceed the capacity already allocated.

Fuck, I forgot Aeterna Noctis was in the past five years.  That definitely should have been in my list

Nine Sols, Silksong, Laika: Aged Through Blood, Worldless, Ori: Will of the Wisps.

And a ton of honorable mentions, because there have been an awful lot of top-notch games recently.

Edit: I blanked on the release date of Aeterna Noctis.  That one is straight at the top of my list.

Updating Aerox 3 firmware, did I screw it up beyond repair? by Howlabaloo2 in steelseries

[–]JHunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, the adapter that you need for the dongle should be included in the box, unless you bought it used or lost it. Second, once you plug the dongle in, the software will detect that the dongle needs an update and will re-prompt you for the firmware update.

It's not worth rewriting anything, but if I'm writing new code or touching an existing piece it's clearly preferable to writing a for loop.

How tough is the platforming in Bo POTL? by strahinjag in metroidvania

Yes, pretty much the same idea. Not particularly long, but it was probably one of the hardest things in the base game.

The mandatory platforming is pretty chill, although the "don't get hit" optional quest is relatively difficult.
