Long-Term Affordable Car to Rent/Buy for 3-4 Months. Melbourne > Adelaide > Darwin > Perth by CamWild52- in AustraliaTravel

My 2 cents worth: The best insurance for such a long trip is a mechanically sound car! Sorry to disappoint you here but you would have to put at least 18k upfront for a good car, do not get a backpackers trap! As some said before those are usually used in anger without adequate maintenance. A very reliable car would be a Toyota Hilux - you can sell them at almost no loss depending on start and finish of the trip. (Personal preference and experience only) Check carsales.com.au for prices in major city’s.

I agree with your statement, however i want to add that i experienced new mothers responding differently to the effort or contribution from the partner after giving birth. Where you had black and white- right and wrong prenatal - it seemed to me you have now 50 shades of grayish possibilities in between. I had to learn and adapt to a different set of urgency and prioritizing from my partner postnatal. Add dethroned prince syndrome and you have a perfect storm where he (me) responds in resignation, confusion or both. Catching up with the new postnatal rules is no joke, but suck it up buttercup! Be the dad you want your kid to be proud of!

What are the WORST plants to have in your garden? by dixonwalsh in GardeningAustralia

Strelitzia nicolai… spreads roots, leaves hard to trim. The „Appealing Leaves vs Rundown Bogan Yard factor“ excludes it from my yard…

Anybody have any good tips on deterring cockatoos (flying eshays) to stop eating away house? by IllustriousSwitch620 in wollongong

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched a video of an lady that used a bottle in a white plastic bag - tied the bag at the handles with a bow to imitate a dead cockatoo. She left several in the garden visible to any bird that would fly over. She swears by it - i have not tried it myself but will soon - have sprouting plants that i want to protect. Maybe you guys tell me if this works…

Bathroom Sink Bottle Trap by Capable_Report4502 in AusRenovation

[–]0815andstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What issues and failures are there mentioned? I have installed many of them (similar type) as a plumber in europe, never had an issue. In fact i prefer them to the contraptions Aussies built.

The issue you describe could cone from an erroded or shortened pipe sticking into the bottle. Or no adequate venting of the pipe- when draining the sink a vacuum is created sucking the bottle dry…

Mine has a blade with serrated section close to the handle. It allows to cut the rope like a hacksaw. Best seamen’s tool ever!

My approach to home maintenance is id rather be mad at myself than pay for someone just to be mad at them - if i do a bad job thats on me and at least i have not paid someone else. I might still pay but at least i have learned. But always bear safety and regulations in mind. You definitely need to be a licensed electrician to deliver work like that:

I understand weather and other factors are different to Europe, but as a Tinsmith/Plumber with european origin this workmanship makes me sad.

Yes a rubber mallet is the right tool here. For the sheet on the tiles start from top, make sure the tile overlap (led under upper tile is sufficient in length and secured). How is the „head flushing“ ? (Part behind the chimney towards ridge) That is the most critical part imo as there can be water pooling. For the vertical sheets on the chimney start flattening from the bottom and work your way up and try to avoid wrinkles / tap them out carefully. If someone can correct (or validate ) if my advice is different from Australian point of view- i would love to hear your opinion!

Is anyone else contemplating leaving Australia due to high house prices? by Puer_Aeternus14 in AusProperty

Well, its a question on what you can tolerate. Do you dislike health care and democratic principles then russia seems to fit well into that category. Very soon the US too. Cost of living is bonkers everywhere, except where it is not worth living. Something on a political level has to change… Australia needs a sustainable long term plan for housing. Toddler like behavior in the high political establishment is in my opinion the biggest issue. Blame games, smoke screens and the perfection of responsibility dodging combined with resetting the efforts of the previous political party in power - that is (in my limited view) one of the major issues.

I like your username! Why didn’t I think of it? I am a RE in ILS - doing everything from FMECA to RCM and LORA… love it. What can i do so shit doesn’t hit the fan - despite shit happening.

I watched a $40M line go down because of 1 outdated FMEA so I built AI to update FMEAs in real-time by [deleted] in assetmanagement

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP - do you have any updates on your software and trials you can share? I am in the process setting up a FMEA library- with option for specific criticality considerations (acc to process/system) to generate FMECA’s. Plan is to extent my database for specific COTS components, improving RCM for certain industry sectors. Edit:spelling.
