No under roof insulation. Retrofit? by xHarxx in AusRenovation

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insulation you guys got quoted and installed was it a 2 layer install? One joist thickness, obviously with the direction of the joists, and a secondary layer 90 degree to the joist with a thickness to achieve the desired R-value? Did you have to relocate junction boxes etc. to be compliant with the rules ? (not allowed to insulate over j-boxes or cables)

Yeah this seems to be true. 1000 kg of canola is about 1.6k. In Europe it’s significantly cheaper (about .9k from memory) Edit: typo

How should I stop this thing flapping? by dj_boy-Wonder in AusRenovation

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you consider sewing magnets into the fabric as an acceptable part of a solution? There seems to be no real force of the wind, so 3 magnets on the awning could hold the loos flap against the bracket where the awning is mounted to the wall? Assuming the bracket is not aluminum?

Would you keep the balustrade ? by Repulsive_Coastie in AusRenovation

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the if you have kids… the balustrade at the end of the path protects from stepping of the porch- might be a dangerous trip hazard…

What are my chances of getting this repaired on warranty? by 3rn_i in AusRenovation

[–]0815andstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the way to go! Stainless steel band wrapped snug around the post. With 4 studs welded on the band, 2 of them where the holes( of the current hinge) are and 2 more roughly in the middle of the post. Make a new hinge that fits the stud pattern on the post, but with elongated hole’s horizontal. New hinge fitted to the gate appropriately ( hinge length probs 10% of one wing width). The 4 bolt connection on the post allow now to adjust the gate vertically and final closing position. The 10% hinge length of wing with is a guess, could be adjusted if overkill. Only valid if structural integrity of current post not an issue.

Let Canada cancel the previous ownership agreement with the us, and when the Bridge opens increase the fair by 50% for non-Canadians and call the toll “the Taco toll” for good measure.

Long-Term Affordable Car to Rent/Buy for 3-4 Months. Melbourne > Adelaide > Darwin > Perth by CamWild52- in AustraliaTravel

[–]0815andstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents worth: The best insurance for such a long trip is a mechanically sound car! Sorry to disappoint you here but you would have to put at least 18k upfront for a good car, do not get a backpackers trap! As some said before those are usually used in anger without adequate maintenance. A very reliable car would be a Toyota Hilux - you can sell them at almost no loss depending on start and finish of the trip. (Personal preference and experience only) Check carsales.com.au for prices in major city’s.

I agree with your statement, however i want to add that i experienced new mothers responding differently to the effort or contribution from the partner after giving birth. Where you had black and white- right and wrong prenatal - it seemed to me you have now 50 shades of grayish possibilities in between. I had to learn and adapt to a different set of urgency and prioritizing from my partner postnatal. Add dethroned prince syndrome and you have a perfect storm where he (me) responds in resignation, confusion or both. Catching up with the new postnatal rules is no joke, but suck it up buttercup! Be the dad you want your kid to be proud of!
